Surprised it doesn't have the holes, did it not come with the ashtrays? Tape and a braddle to make the holes. Easier to avoid disaster than with a drill with such small holes. Look up pics on Google and find references for position. Some here:http://www.bass-guitar-museum.com/bass-14584-1951-51-Reissue-Fender-Precision-P-Bass
That'll be a 'bradawl' a sharp pointy thing with a handle, used for making holes

Edit: 23/09/2011 Sold thanks! Only the Sunburst P for [s]sale now[/s], I have a very nice Tweed case (as new) deep Cherry red inside, + a Fender cardboard box ready to go £350 delivered UK Next Day. Precision Bass - Made in Mexico 2007 - 'Classic' Sunburst with a new Tortoise Shell pick guard. BadAssII bridge fitted, a USA P-bass pick up, wiring pots etc, which is perhaps older than the bass, the covers look slightly matt but no bad marks, has slightly raised pole pieces, a lovely vintage Fender sound, fitted with Fender 9050 St/St Flatwounds. The Rosewood Fingerboard has been cleaned & Lemon Oiled, frets are fine, no sign of wear, none high & no sharps. Action is set low, >2mm at 20th Fret & there is no buzzing, if you play hard this can easily be raised of course. There's plenty of adjustment on the bridge saddles, the intonation is set spot on, tuners are good & stay in tune well. Truss rod is fine & easy to adjust, it's quite light (as P's go) at 8.97lbs 4.07Kg. No scratches or anything nasty, practically showroom condition, obviously it has been played so there are the usual tiny marks, no buckle rash. At what weight do you consider a bass to be heavy?
KiOgon replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
As I only ever play seated it's maybe not such an issue, but I'd say 10lbs is as much as I'd want for ease of handling. My '51 P-bass Ri is getting on for 10lb & my heaviest, I know it every time I pick it from the rack Cheerz, John -
Ask him if it'll fit a Squier Affinity.
I was thinking - maybe a Sue Ryder
-
Have you tried a different lead?
-
To me - it's all part of a setup, especially after a bass has been in transit, who knows what sort of knocks it's had, nothing to do with being a P-bass, anything with a bolt on neck - it's adjustable.
I think it does John, can's see anything obviously wrong, the solder is good as is the cable. So that would be great. Pm how much you want for it and we will get it sorted.
PM back @ ya

My son bought me one of these for a present a couple of years ago - works perfectly & checks spot on against a full size Seiko keyring tuner
On a side note Labella flatwounds are recommended NOT to be strung through the body. Something about the break angle being too sharp. They seem to be prone to fail/break if you do this.
I've heard that before but I've had no problem - I've only had one set of them but I've recently changed them from another bass that was also strung through on a BadAssIII to this which has a Hipshot A style, no problem on either. Having said that - I honestly can't remember ever breaking a bass string - touches wood quick like

With LaBella 'Original 1954 Oldies' on my '51 P, through body (like it should be) I've just dropped to DGCF & it feels so right The truss rod might well need a tiny bit of relief - we'll see tomorow It made me wonder if 'The Man' played it down, anyone know? Cheerz, John

Reading your op again, I'm wondering if the jack socket is well & truly connected physically & electrically to the control plate? Don't suppose you've got a multimeter? I'd solder a wire from the jack socket outer ring to each pot body & link to the bridge, to be sure.

Joe & I did a swap - strings for loks - great communication & posted exactly as agreed. What's incredible is that we both sent each other a PM at the exact same time today, 11:49 to say we had received the goods. Where's the spooky smiley? A pleasure to deal with & I have no hesitation in recommending Joe to one & all. Cheerz, John

Question & Answer Answered On 21-Aug-11 Q: Hi there, congrats on such a great amp,I have the V4( mk2) and V6 and would love one of these.Just wandered if you are open to sensible offers. Please dont be offended and obviously it states a starting bid of 3k,which is around twice what these generally go for, paid way less than half for both my Vs,thanks,Mike 21-Aug-11 A: No offence taken at all Mike and thank you very much for your interest. Prior to th e V8, I also had a V6 which I had all sorts of problems with. The bloody thing went in and out of the shop so many times I lost count (the Trace workshop in Maldon that is, not the actual High Street shop), but even they couldn't find out what was wrong with it. I'm sure the V6 model itself is sound; I guess I just had a rouge one. I'm happy to report that I've had no such problems with the V8 though. It's a totally different beast compared to the other V amps and I have never had any issues with it - apart from picking the bloody thing up! I'm happy with the price I've set. Owner's have let them go for cheaper than their original RRP (which was not far off £2K), but I've also seen them go for not a lot less than what I'm asking for. Never say never though, so if you have a price in mind just let me know. If anyone would like further pictures, I am also happy to oblige. Regards, Warren. Ask seller a question?
I have noticed that there is a very quiet constant rustling type intereference that stops when I put my finger on the bridge or control panel. Have I answered my own question with an earthing problem. Its a bitza jazz that has been up and running for a couple of weeks now. I have checked the wiring again to make sure the soldering is still good and checked the bridge earth. The only thing I dont have is "shielding" in the cut out for the control plate. What sort of material should I use if I need this? Cheers
Usually Copper Tape, adhesive backed thin copper, but you need to solder all the joins to ensure continuity & make sure it contacts the metal control panel. Are your controls physically connected by a ground wire or are they relying on contact via the plate? Have you tried another instrument cable just to eliminate that? Cheerz, John

My latest P, I couldn't resist the call of the sunburst, came with BadassII & USA pick up (I'm told), I've given it a good clean, a tort plate, a set of Fender Flats & a complete setup. It does everything a P-bass should, very nicely
