2.

Needs more cowbell
 3. Sagawa ordered a special harness for a project from me, great communication & instant payment, a complete pleasure to deal with, no problems Cheerz, John
 4.
That looks mighty fine John. Glad it was a happy ending.
Cheerz Gary, I'm well pleased with the whole thing, looks good & plays sweet - couldn't hope for any more
 5. Well for future information I can say that the plate I ordered from link above - Guitars Electric Ltd - fits my MiM P-bass perfectly Every screw hole lines up & it's a lovely fit around the neck + the pick up. I couldn't be happier with it Nice finish, it even had 2 layers of protective film on & a bit of Aluminium foil stuck on in the controls area. Result
 6.
Good Post ! if you put a meter across them, would the resistance measurements differ ?
Bugger! I had it apart today & forgot to do that Anyway, there are no markings that i can see, now I've sorted the sponge etc the pole pieces protrude from the top approx 1/16", all of them, not just the A string like. Do both US & Mex do that? Sounds good, output level is just below a Seymour Duncan 1/4lb which is nearest I have to compare, mind you it is the only bass I'm running on roundwounds at the moment. Cheerz, John
 7. From here - I would say it's unlikely the pot is faulty, much more probably a bad/dry joint somewhere on those pcbs. It needs looking at I wouldn't worry about getting another pot until someone's put a meter across it.
 8.
Ok, just for a bit more information, this is Seymour Duncan's wiring diagram. Here's how the bass is wired as I type, and I'm pretty sure that's how it was originally wired. I don't think I've changed anything! Sorry that it's been done quickly on paint, but you get the gist. Also, the capacitor in the bass says 1H (no idea what that means) then 104K, which if I remember my AS level Electronics right means it's 0.1 microFarads, rather than the 0.5 on the diagram. Also the pin on the left of the tone pot has been bent back and soldered onto the pot itself, like the one on the right of the volume pot.
Top - standard diagram is correct - 2nd, how you've got it is wrong. The l/h tag of the tone pot shouldn't be soldered to the body, neither should the r/h. Rewire following the top circuit & it'll be fine!
 9. Show us how you've wired it with a picture can you? The only thing I can think of is that the centre tab of the tone pot, where the capacitor is connected - is also shorted to earth - ie: the pot body. Do you have a multimeter? Cheerz, John
 10. Thought I had one but - sorry just looked & the biggest is 65mm
 11.
I think I will. Would you, or anyone, have any particular recommendation as to type/where to buy etc? It is going through a wood body rather than a scratch plate, so needs a longer shaft.
WD Music are pretty good, example shown is 500K, have a look at your old one & see what ID is on it.
 12.
You're obviously not geeky enough for that particular gag...unlike me!
Errr - Thanks, I think
 13.
I've been toying with making some bass related t shirts on zazzle/cafepress etc, just for a laugh and to excercise my graphic design on the pc. Anyway, Kinda stuck for ideas currently! Anyone able to help? Check out what I already have here :
I love the bumper sticker - but not £4 much i don't that's a hell of a lot for overheads BTW "All your bass are belong to me" ain't exactly good grammar is it! Ideas - yeah make 'em big & sell 'em cheap Cheerz, John
 14. Sound like it needs looking at by someone in the know, or at least with a meter for starters. If you were closer I'd have a look Not much chance of fixing it without seeing what's going on I'm afraid. Cheerz, John
 15. Very tasty & deliciously different
 16.
Is there any way to tell by listening?
Maybe & you would think so - but I don't have/never have had neither another USA or a Mex standard pickup to compare to
 17.
Pino Palladino said "as you get older your tone knob creeps down and your right hand goes further up the neck".
Did he really say that? He's only bloody right you know
 18.
Sorry John, can't remember and I haven't got the bass to hand at the moment. I can borrow it from my daughter at some point to check but not for a day or so.
No worries mate, I've clicked on one from above 'guitars_electric' so I'll find out soon enough Cheerz, John
 19. Cheerz Gary - that's good to know, there seems to be some difference in the hole placing nearest the volume control, was that the area you had differences?
 20. As in the title - I've got hold of a MiM P-bass that the owner before the one I bought it from, told him that it's got a USA pick up fitted. I haven't opened it up yet but is there any way of telling? Cheerz, John
 21. There's a lot of plates on ebay, some look as if they will & some look like they won't fit a 13 hole MiM P-bass, (2007/8 standard). There must be loads of P-bass owners here who've been down this road - so any ideas what fits & what don't? - please! These look promising I know I can pay a lot & get a 'quality' one but don't want to spend a lot Cheerz, John
 22. I've just swapped some strings around, LaBella's original 1954 oldies onto my '51 P Ri & GHS black nylons onto Frank Bello bass. The LaBella's which I thought would compliment the '51 actually feel a bit 'heavy' for it, the truss rod took almost a full turn of tightening, I was beginning to wonder if these Jap re-issues are as well built as the originals but it's settled down ok now. The black nylons certainly look tasty on the black jazz & TBH are more suited to my more 'sweet' jazzy moments By far the best flats I find are the GHS 3050 Precision Flats, 55 G up to 105 E, but lighter & slightly less tension than the LaBella's, to me they're 'just right' on my '57 AV. I've picked up a MiM P-bass fitted with Ernie Balls roundwound & although I never stick with them, they have a novelty twangy sound that soon gets on my nerves & they have to go! More GHS strings on order Cheerz, John
 23. Hi Tom - sorry to hear the arthritis is getting so bad - I know exactly how it is, hopefully you won't sell everything & you'll still be playing on the good days Best of luck with the sales. Cheerz, John
 24.
Hi, I got the chance to get my hands on a Custom shop Pino Palladino Precision Bass. I still did not fully recover from the sound I heard To keep it short: I want one, but my bank position are not willing to concur. I was wondering if they were other P-Bass in the Fender catalog delivering the same sound that the PP custom. thanks, Chris
You'll get close by fitting TI flats on any decent P-bass with Alder body & Rosewood board, but the nearest I reckon would be a '62 American Vintage, basically same model as the PP, just a tad cheaper The pick up in the PP is a special wind I believe, apart from that? I think the sound you like is mostly down to the strings. Cheerz, John
 25.
Got it! Not had chance to fire it up!
Cooorrrrrrrrrrrrr!
