Do you use yours for gigs or just home use?
I am a famous Ashdown user for christs's sake - I've got Little Bastard Number 1 how much famous do you want? Gigs? What's that then?
  2. Here you go - Number 1
  3.
The sound is typically functional at best, I long to even hear someone use a set of strings that are not several years old - a fresh set of strings is pound for pound by far and away the best investment you can make yet most people I see just cant seem to be bothered. Hearing someone do some slaps/pops with dead strings especially makes me cringe.
Au contrair, mon ami - someone playing a well worn set of La Bella flats ONO would flick my switch
  4. So if you turned up for 'your average pub gig' with a Custom shop Pino Palladino or similar, let's say £2.5+ks worth - how many people would notice?
  5. I'm pretty sure Black Dog Music had them but I can't see them on their website. Give them a call? Cheerz, John
  6. Not exactly hi def photo but that looks like MDF to me!

  8.
That does sound spot on John as I need that little bit of a cutting bite in it. I imagine it could be usuefull for working on a few light body scratches on other things too. Ta
That's exactly what I do, it's gentle but seems to take out all those little scuffs & scratches without damaging the surrounding. In fact you can use it on any surface - metal, wood painted or varnish etc. Cheerz, John
  9.
Oh matron!! Actually, I've just got a neck back from a friend who nitro laquered it for me but he said I just need to give it a final rub down to bring up the shine. He did mention what to use, but I forgot and now he's out of the country and I don't want to hassle him. Advice?? Ta.
I have a old bottle of Carnuaba Polish which I find the best thing for buffing up a nitro finish, (& most everything), it's like a cream polish with a very fine cutting compound all in one. I can give you an email for the guy who makes it if you like. Cheerz, John
  10. Paul has one of my P-bass wiring sets now, so hopefully all the bits will come together today & his P build will be a great success. It's a pleasure doing business with you Paul, best wishes for the build & let's have some pictures when it's done. Cheerz, John
  11.
I've been a proud owner of the prototype one (the one without serial numbers) since Nov 2010, and still love it to bits, never had a problem with volume issues, I either mike it up or go d.i. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=110827&hl=
Snap - almost I've been the proud owner of Little Bastard Number 1 of 100 (first one out the factory front door) since March 2010 & still love it to bits! No volume problems here - through LB112 + ABM Mini 48, abfab old school all tube goodness Best sounding amp I've ever had
  12.
- but if Ashdown brought the Drophead out as a head only for £5-600, I'd be in trouble...
Isn't that the Little Bastard?
Hi all. I haven't been called a newbie in years lol. I finally found the time to get myself on here. Seems like a friendly place. My name is Ellie I'm a pro female bassist based in Essex ( no Essex girl jokes please lol). I front my own band as well as working with other musicians when I can. I have a number of basses, but my main workhorse these days is my Warwick Covrette ltd ed 2010 played through a TC staccato 51 rig. I've been playing since I was a teen, only a few years ago turning pro when I was 18! My latest band plays classic rock covers which is just a load of fun. Hope I haven't bored you too much cheers Ellie
Lo Le & welcome, have fun
  14. I've been using the tcelectronic polytune for a year or so now - it's great I don't bother with the multiple string thing, just in chromatic mode. Easy to see & accurate, allows you to tune very very finely - right down - bottom A is as far as I've gone but it picks it up fine. Wouldn't change it for anything.
  15. Chris now has one of my Jazz bass wiring kits, he's a pleasure to deal with, great comms & instant payment. No hassle, super guy to deal with. Cheerz, John

    Vox 2x15
I think it's easy to tell it's a 100W (2x50W) 2x10. But what else is a bit difficult as it has no serials, model numbers, it doesn't even have the impedance on it.
Check those labels again 2x15" I reckon Ah! chris_b was typing same time as me Edit again: Looks like they're 2 x 8 Ohm units wired in series so 16 Ohm as is, you could change it to 4 Ohm if you want to wire them in parallel.
  17.
Weird - I got some interest in this within minutes of posting it and so I thought I might have a sale. Then the guy has to back out (before we'd agreed anything firm, I should add) because he had some very bad luck and his personal circumstances changed. Since then, very quiet. So, BUMP - at least, tell me what you think of the look and condition of the bass. Am I asking too high a price, ya think? Comments appreciated.
Looks great condition, I love the trans orange but it maybe not flavour of the month Not a MM person myself, I think your price is good - the market is just so bad, spare cash is a rare thing for most. Good luck with the sale, hope the right buyer will be along - er soon. Cheerz, John
  18.
At the risk of being told "go google"...whassat then?
GHS Fast Fret™ String and Neck Lubricant / String Cleaner for All Stringed Instruments. Not a spray! Contains no silicone. It’s a liquid in an applicator. Use it on strings, fretboard, back of neck. Lets fingers slide freely, keeps strings clean, is good for wood.
  19. GHS are my favourite string makers - then one day I saw this Fast Fret advertised, thought I'd try it for £5. As it happens I love it! To be fair though I've only used it on Flatwounds. Vote please
  20. Last time I got a big surprise bonus was with my December pay (1990 IIRC) Christmas was good, then I returned to my job, (Branch Manager of A/V company), made redundant on first day back. Keep it safe 'til you're sure
  21.
I acquired this bass recently purely because Pete Skjold makes fantastic basses and this is one of his finest. However, although I knew it was a 35" scale, I was seduced by its blue beauty. Unfortunately, I am not quite comfortable with the scale and as my arms aren't going to grow any more it may be time to pass this lovely bass onto someone who can caress her comfortably ;o) It's a 2005 model built by Pete Skjold for a major company at a guitar show in the US. It's an ash body with a flame maple top and a beautiful blue tint. The neck is a bolt-on, 24 fret, maple with purpleheart stringers and a rosewood fingerboard, 38mm at top nut. The pick-ups are a Skjold design and, combined with the top of the range pre amp, provide a very wide range of tones. The slimline neck is simply gorgeous to play, the notes simply ring with great sustain. The bass has been really well looked after at was up for sale at the Bass Gallery for £1400. The only sign of wear is on the neck pick-up under the 'E' string, where a visible mark on the pup can be seen at close range. Other than that there isn't a mark of any note, no dings, dents or scratches. The fingerboard has a beautiful grain and shows no sign of wear at all. When I acquired the bass I had it professionally set-up, cleaned, electronics checked, and new strings. Given the initial cost of the bass, shipping and set-up, I'm asking £945 , which I think is a bargain! It comes with a decent gig bag (no hard case). I might be persuaded to consider a trade - you never know!
Hi Scooby, I just noticed you've got this listed as a *Offset '92* but I think you'll find it's the Standard '92, same as mine Great basses, best of luck with the sale, apologies for being pedantic Cheerz, John Skjold Design
  22. Well done you Congrats & have a cigar
  23.
Looks a lot like an Aerodyne.
but isn't
  24.
True but wouldn't they look so much better with a rosewood-n-blocks board than maple?
Yep - another vote for RW/Blocks
