1. My eldest lad brought me home a present from a boot sale he went to this morning, I'm chuffed to bits with it! It's brand new in a bag but got a real vintage look & feel to it, even the colour seems right. If I was any good at photography I'd love to set it with my '51 & '57 - shame I don't have a '54 Any other classic old T's out there?
2. Yes - me too, I had a go on 'the shop bike'! it was the only P in GAK with flats on TBH, I thought it played well enough but not over impressed, & I still cant get the rusty metalwork out of my mind, not for that money Enjoy it Dan, 'tis a fine machine
3. Something I have a mind to do one day is - make a functional walking stick from a neck seriously
4.
Hello, I use a Trace Elliot Boxer 65 as my standard amp for most of the gigging I do and its always done me proud. However at this Fridays gig on switching it on it powered up as normal but made no audible 'pop' from the speaker as it always has done on powering up, and produced no volume on playing through it. The amp worked perfectly on Thursday so the fault must have occurred in transit. It has also been modified to be able to disconnect the head from the speaker so that a DI can be placed after it in order to take an affected signal to the desk, because of this I was able to test the amp by sending a signal to a different cab; this also produced no sound so I assume the problem is with the head. Would anyone be able to inform me of what the problem may be? I love the tone I get from this thing and have some important gigs coming up, I wouldn't want to use anything else! Cheers for any help or advice you can give me, Oscar.
Hi Oscar, That'll be my old combo won't it? Sorry to hear it's developed a problem, it's been a while. Depending on your working knowledge of amps, I'd suggest a look at the circuit board for loose joints. Cheerz, John
5. Just as I clicked on it @ 21:17 it was pulled

11. It's a pleasure to deal with Ben, I sorted him out a P-bass wiring kit, great communication, instant payment & no problems. Cheerz, John

13.
Touch of the hopefull with that price?
Mmmmm - Buy it now? Or make an offer? I don't think so, nowhere near that asking price
14.
Often happens with maple boards Nothing to worry about in my book - infact some say it adds character/mojo
I don't see how that is a maple board? Obviously not a one piece maple neck/board, but like Mr Foxen says "it look like a cheap pale rosewood board underneath" Hence my remark about Fablon! It looks like a cheap 'maple colour' covering - be it laquer/paint/varnish/sticky backed plastic - whatever! If it's going to peel off like that - it's sh*te in my book
15. Never mind the refin - what about the fretboard? Not seen this before, it looks like the 'Fablon' is coming off the fretboard What's that about? 16.
Hey, I'm getting round to sorting my '62 RI Jazz out finally, the sets gone a bit wonky, the necks dry, the hardware is crusty. Anyway, I was thinking of putting some pickup covers on it, only trouble being I've heard they don't fit over badass II bridges? Can anyone recommend bridges which do fit. A second question, I noticed the truss rod screw is in the most inconvinient place possible. Bottom of the neck with no rout to access it. I don't really want to add a rout to it, whats the best way to adjust the truss rod, this seems like it's gonna be a major pain in the arse.
Standard Fender covers don't fit over Hipshot (type A IIRC) either. Truss rod access:- Capo or rubber band over strings at nut to hold strings in place - loosen all strings (right slack) - undo 4 screws of neck plate. You can choose to remove screws & neck completely or just move neck in pocket enough to get to truss rod, in which case you don't have to remove screws. Be careful neck isn't tight or stuck to paint around pocket, it can cause chips of paint on the edge if you're not careful. If it's been off before you're probably OK. Adjust as required - right to tight / left to loose - refit neck & retune. Try it but leave at least overnight with strings tuned to allow time to settle before any other adjustments. HTH, John
17. Bobby ordered one of my wiring sets for a P-bass, he's a real pleasure to deal with, great communication, instant payment, no hassle & left me lovely feedback. Thanks Bobby, you're a top guy & a gent Cheerz, John
18. FWIW I'd say the neck ain't Fender, the curve at body end of fretboard & angle of E string to tuner look wrong for starters. Bridge & strap buttons too. Pritty Blue though
19. Good job! Looks great & I'm sure if Leo had got hold of that colour paint we'd see plenty more like it but your's is truly unique - outstanding A bass to be very proud of
20. GHS are my favourite brand by far. As they're obviouly a top USA manufactured bass string, I can't believe they didn't feature in the OP's 'American website' results.
21. Just looking - but - is it really 1.625" @ nut?

25.
Greetings to you all. I'm a newbie (but mature at 46) bass player from the south coast. I've played guitar a bit in the past but have discovered that I totally love bass. My big confession is despite being a total rookie, I did splash out a bit on a second hand Fender Japanese 70's style jazz bass. I also got hold of a second hand Roland Microcube bass RX. I'm now learning a few songs (fairly simple) and have discovered a whole new world! Anyway, it's good to be on the forum and I look forward to chatting to you all in the future.
Hey neighbour
