Born in 1951 don't leave me much choice I won't get a January 51 neck date unless it's a prototype, so I'm happy with this:

Do you know anywhere that does car spraying - especially vintage cars? Tha'ts where I'd try first, they probably do their own mixing so could do any shade of any colour I imagine. Cheerz, John

The neck is definitely wrong! They're Jumbo frets & 'snot 1&3/4" nut + the 'contour body' decal already mentioned & no 'Precision'? The bridge might be

I'd say it could be anything from '83ish to present, not much help am I? Unlikely to be '60s though!

It must have been '73 through to '76 I had a ephing great Orange 2 x 18 & 2 Hiwatts on top. Trouser/flares flapping No wonder my bones ache

One of the salesmen in Bonners of Eastbourne told me "you can't re-fit strings that have been used before, they just break". I don't bother them with my custom any more.

Vintage frets, 7-1/4" Radius, 34" scale, made to measure thanks Leo, perfect fit Don't mind 1-5/8 or 1-3/4" Nut width, as long as it's 3/4" spacing at bridge, oh yeah - 4 strings MAX. When I try a Jazz neck it's always fast & comfortable for a short time, then the pains begin.

I'm using flats on everything I play & there's plenty of 'tone range' to be had with different strings. On Precisions I've got LaBella Deep Talkin' 1954 Originals, Fender 9050M, TI Jazz Flats, GHS Black Nylons & GHS Brite Flats. The Brite Flats are Groundwound & do exactly what it says on the packet, I think you'd like them Although they're not common here, Stringbusters do them I believe, usually get mine fron USA ebay, got some GHS Precision Flats on order now. You need to get your money back pronto, don't even think about a £ 100 repair! You ain't going to get a proper job done for a century I'm sure. Total Refund - Goods not as described.

I've just fitted a DiMarzio DP127 in my '57 AV & to me it's the mutz nutz! It looks as good as it sounds & as said above ^ it's equivalent to many a active bass in output. The bars instead of pole pieces are very neat & part of the reason for wanting to change - the raised poles on the A string '57 original were a bit of a pain sometimes. My Frank Bello has got Seymour Duncans, both P & J 1/4 lbs - the DiMarzio is clearer, crystal on every note, open string + harmonics ring like a bell, all with no background noise. I've also got SD 1/4lb in my MIM P & my '51 P, so they're my benchmark. Do you want a pick up that costs more than the bass though!
