Any chance of some detailed pictures of the signature please? Do you know what type of ink or other material was used for the signing? Will it react, (or has it already), with the Nitro finish I guess is what I'm asking? Has the sig. been varnished/sealed over? Also detail pic's of the 'choice wood' would be good, rear of body & neck particularly to see the grain/pattern. Cheerz, John
Hey folks, hoping someone can clarify! Was looking online and AV series P basses are close to £1700. Coda are doing custom shop P basses for only £100 more than this... I'm after a nice P bass but nowhere in bristol stocks these so i'm gonna head down to mansons soon, but my question is- has anyone compared these 2 series? I would have guessed the custom shop P was thr daddy, but for the sake of £100 extra who'd have an AV over a custom?!?
The '58 Olympic White NOS looks very nice & I like the C/S idea but I prefer the '57 White Blonde American Vintage. The '57 AV body, Nitro transparent White Blonde over Ash IMO much nicer than the solid Olympic White. Very sexy to see the lovely grain through the Nitro & the one piece Ash body + one piece Maple neck give it a unique feeling at a very comfortable weight. The '57 AV neck, Nitro 'vintage tint' IMO better than the 'light maple' finish on the '58, + I really prefer the vintage frets over medium jumbo & the 7 1/4" radius over the 9.5". The '59 Sunburst, to me not aesthetically right with the dark body/light neck + same comments as above on the neck/fret spec . The '62 AV IMO is the perfect sunburst colour combination with the dark Rosewood board setting it off a treat with the tinted headstock too. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder & all that, above is only my opinion, if you are going to spend that much on anything, it's got to be your choice & your preferences. How they feel & play I imagine is going to be pretty much the same & IMO it's all down to individual setup. Since I've had my '57 AV I've tried at least 5 sets of strings before I'm happy with the tone & feel I want. You can't do that in a shop before you buy. I moaned at Fender about the lack of choice regarding strings, especially Round vs Flat, at least they sent me a set of Flats FOC! Cheerz, John.

EDIT: The seller confirmed it's got Made in England on the back. Shame someone's scribbled on it - with Cliff's Biro? Nice win though Wonder what competition that was? Cheerz, John
Ahh but the flip side is some of us wish they offered Jazz's without the stupidly narrow Nut width and put a decent width on there as an option
+ a large ONE! -
Adonised pick gaurd for Fender P bass question
KiOgon replied to krispn's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hey I've got a '08 P bass and want to put a new pg on it for an upcoming gig giving it that retro look. The new gold ano p/g arrived this morning just before I set out for work and I was wondering do I need to ground it or shield it? Wanna get this answered before I put it on and discover loads of noise etc. Thanks in advance for your collective input - I'd normally google but our firewall is quite restrictive at work but it does let me get on BC!
Shouldn't need to - the pots & jack socket will be mechanically earthed to the pick guard - so as long as they're earthed with their black wires, you won't have a problem.
That's a rediculous price, especially as Coda are charging a few quid more for their Custom Shop 58 and 59 P Basses
That Custom Shop '58 is awesome for that money

KiOgon replied to Max Normal's topic in Repairs and Technical
Ok, thanks guys. New question then: Can anybody tell me using the distance from the 20th fret centre to the centre of the pickup?
Answer = 216mm on my Frank Bello sig, P/J configuration. Edit: 8 1/2" in old money -
Thanks again guys for above - I now need to find a large portion of listening time! Cheerz, John

Wow! Many thanks to y'all for so many suggestions I know it's a BIG question but there's some good ideas, familiar names & indeed a few I've not heard of there to get me listening. Cheerz, John

I play by ear, I hear a tune I like & generally speaking have a bass line going before 1/2 way through, not bragging - that's just how I play - there's a hell of a lot I can't do - that's for sure. My lady loves me playing, often when I ask her what should I play, she suggests a tune/song & we'll get it on youtube then take it from there. Just lately I've been saying a lot "that's a boring bass line, nothing to keep me interested", so then she suggested I should play more jazz perhaps! Now I've always sat on the side with jazz, never got into at all but nothing against, so now I'm thinking - BUT where to start? I mean artists to investigate rather than individual tracks, but hey - Polite suggestions for easy listening please & ta. Cheerz, John
AM i right in thinking that if I change my tone pot from 250 ohms to a lesser or greater ohms it will result in a change of sound from my bass?
I think you mean 250 Kohms, that K is a bit important like & it depends on your wiring but in a word 'NotaLot'
