4.
Hi there, I have a couple of queries as to how to do this, My pedalboard is looking scruffy and mismatched and i've been looking into making my own length jack cables, Here are the ends i will be purchasing... http://www.gapco.co.uk/1-4-inch-90-Mono-Ja...g-type-349.html I want to know where i can buy the 1/4 inch cable to use, and "with this type of jack plug, will i have to solder it or will the two screws hold it firmly enough in place?" Hope i've worded this in a way thats not too difficult to understand. Links to website where i can buy the raw cable would be useful too as every time i've searched all i get is pre-built cables. -Tom
The termination of the conductors will need soldering, if you mean the 2 screws that hold the top on the casing, that's all they do. 6.
Hey, How much is 'notalot' round the pegs on a P bass? Got a P copy and like the idea of trying out some flats... Will they stay in tune on it? How many times round the peg are we talking? Cheers, Tom
Hi Tom, Sorry - only just seen your question. I used them as they were with no problems & yes they stayed in tune. IIRC they had approx one whole turn around the pegs, it seems some people fit them like that, I prefer a few more winds. They are nice strings, ideal chance to try decent flatwounds without spending a lot. Cheerz, John
Same here If you don't want to drill any extra holes you can use single hole thumbrests & use the pick guard screw hole already in that position. Guy Lewis does them, I'll put a picture on when I'm back at my PC, you might be able to see one in my avatar pic. For me the single screw holds fine & in just the right place. Cheerz, John
Edit - pictures:

    Raggy

Raggy - (soon to become the quickest pup swapper in the West) - bought my prewired P bass electrics kit, great guy to deal with, instant payment & superb communication, a pleasure to deal with. No problem recommending Steve to all. Cheerz, John
  12. Pete said having his own feedback thread would be like Basschat graduation, so here ya go Pete, congratulations Great guy to deal with - bought a custom PSU from me, instant payment & no problemo, happilly recommended to all. Cheerz, John

  14.
i struggle to find strings that are long enough for my builds. i only do 34" at the minute and even then, ernie ball 'long scale' are barely long enough to deal with a bridge/tailpiece setup. obviously companies only cater for basses with standard hardtail designs where the saddles are very close to the anchors. i made a 36" once and couldn't find anything near long enough. now, i plan on making 35", 36", and 38" scale in the long term and can see a huge problem in finding the right strings. companies never state the actual wound length of the string and on my 34's from tail to nut is 36". any suggestions? i mean, how about a string through? what then i ask you? i believe a standup is around the 40" mark, thats a proper length for a bass note in my book. what g'wan?
I've just measured these at 36.5" silk to silk & they're fine on my 35" scale Skjold, (Hipshot bridge top loaded).
  15.
Personally I think the wiring block with screw terminals is a great idea. It will easily allow for various pickup configs to be tried out.
Thanks - my sediments precisely I'm sure a sensibly used screw connector is fine for our needs & could easily be a better bet than some individual's soldering! Cheerz, John
  16.
Would you be able to do a V V T version?
PM your requirements & I'll almost certainly be able to sort something out Cheerz, John

  19. OK as I'm so sad - I've been to WD Music & priced it up. £7.90 - 2 x CTS Solid Shaft 250K Pots @£3.95 £1.95 - Switchcraft Jack Socket £0.98 - Orange Drop Cap (Same as Green I used) £2.00 - Wire (£1 per foot of each) £1.95 - P&P £14.78 - Total Parts. £0. 20 - Solder (Estimated) £2.24 - Royal Mail 1st Class posted to you. £17.22 - Grand Total. Leaving a miserly sum of £3.78 I suppose you'd say = me charging too much for building it? + I offered Screw Terminal connectors for anybody not wishing to solder their pick up & earth wires. I give up Edit: I forgot to add the small amount I regularly donate to Basschat whenever I make sales via this wonderful place Every little helps - or is that Tesco? Or Asda? Feck nose, is it Whisky time yet? Or just more pills?
  20.
To be perfectly honest, for the time and effort that goes into making one, £20 isn't too bad. Especially if it's a switchcraft jack and it's all unused before. This would be perfect for someone looking to upgrade their bass but isn't very confident. The option of the screw terminals is a really f*cking good idea too. Pick up change would be so much simpler that way... Wish I'd of thought of that...
Thanks - a ray of sunshine at last!
  21. Yeah thanks - I think I'll just chuck it in the bin then.
  22.
LOL. Why so negative? Yes, i was answering on behalf of Ou7. you asked why he questioned your price. Seeing as ive just upgraded all the internals of my P bass, and paid full price for the parts i DO know how much it all comes to. You only have to look on Allparts or WD music to find out how much each component and a bit of wire costs. I already said that your price was the going rate for this sort of thing so i wasn't questioning it at all, just answering your question. In fact if i hadn't already done my bass i would have had this off you as like you say, not everyone has the skill to do it themselves. I would say chill out but i guess you would take offence to me telling you to do that as well so good luck instead.
I suppose I find myself more negative than positive these days! Must be my age So you know the prices, factor in a little for consumables, time etc. + P&P, would you want to make a kit for less? No offence taken or intended - I'm going for my chill pill now Must be lunch time Cheerz, John
  23.
Its a lot of money considering the cost of the components. I do understand that this is what they go for on Ebay though, im not questioning your price.
Are you answering on behalf of Ou7shined? I don't see how you think "Its a lot of money considering the cost of the components" unless you have access to wholesale price parts or something? Taking into consideration that they are quality components & all the work is done - not everybody has the tools/skills/knowledge/patience - whatever to do things like this for themselves, It seems to me a fair price to ask. I thought I might actually be doing someone a favour, not starting a price war! If you're "not questioning your price" what are you saying exactly? Cheerz, John
  24.
Is this for just one kit?
Yes - 1 kit to fit 1 bass - what prompted your question?
  25. To fit any 'Standard' Precision Bass: All brand new, 2 x CTS 250K pots, Green drop cap & Switchcraft Jack Socket, all wired up & ready to fit. Hand assembled using quality wire & proper solder! [s]£21 [/s]Posted, PayPal as gift OK ta. SOLD Thanks Steve. Cheerz, John Edit: Pictures added, Pick Up & Pick Guard not included in this sale.
