Great to see Ashdown represented on the forum at last I've always found them very helpful & friendly to deal with + it is good to support a British company. Cheers, John

"The neck is straight, and the truss rod works fine. The frets seems to be original, and are like new. The only thing that maybe it's not original is the brass nut, but I'm not sure. The witdh at nut is 40mm, and the neck is thin and comfortable (similar to a jazz neck)" First time I've heard of a neck with a 40mm nut on a '73 Precision? I read they changed from the 'C' 1&3/4" to the 'B' 1&5/8" in 72/73. Always thought the 40 mm was/is a Jazz neck & it was much later they started swapping around?

All I can say is that I had the first LB in the UK (end of March) & I told Ashdown about the switches etc. They've obviously not updated the online manual. No I didn't get a hard copy either! The Up for On is (in my mind) the American way - must be why it seems right to Ben (LuvMusic), but I see it as wrong simply because it's upside down to the notation. I think the guy that designed the amp didn't talk to the guy doing the front panel layout! It's the Bright & Mute that are wrong (to me) the Bass Shift & Mid Shift could be either way Take any switch in the world - if you switch it toward the notation, be it On or OFF - O or I - Loud or Quiet - Mute Bright whatever, what do you expect? It's a lovely little amp though does exactly what I want - beautifully & sounds great Cheers, John

I forgot to mention - my current gas/lust is a '57 Vintage White/Blonde - just how I like my woman too

I have some 'Heavy Duty' 9 Volt DC, 1 Amp UK plug in adaptors for sale - decent quality - perfect for powering your pedals - fitted with 5.5/2.1 mm plug on >1.5m lead. Wired centre + but can soon be changed. These are not the usual feather light jobs, so hopefully should last for years & with 1000mAh output have enough power to daisy chain a few pedals (depending on individual current requirement). Brand new & boxed. They weigh 550g nett so P&P is not cheap, selling for £6.00 each posted - UK - 1st class. PayPal OK. PM me for details please, first come first served. PS If you have any specific wiring configuration requirement let me know & I'll see what I can do (a small fee may apply;-) Edit: I can add plugs & wire to suit at cost of £1.00 per extra plug, so a 4 way daisy chained as shown will cost £9.00 Cheers, John

IIRC one of my mates got the same upgrade back in the early 60's - the 'new electronic pick-up' was a Hofner made 'bolt on' made to screw to the bottom end of the neck & the controls console made to fit over the tailpiece. Probably very collectable now if it still works & no reason why it wouldn't! Cheers, John
hey guys, really hoping you can help me the jack on my ibanez edb605 appears to have broken. it looks like one of the contacts in the socket has snapped and therefore it isn't making a proper connection when i put the lead in. i need to find a replacement, but i don't really know where to find one from. im wondering if one of you tech savvy bass geniuses would be able to help me out and point me in the right direction towards one. i believe it is a stereo , and the bass is active if its any help. ive posted some pictures, ive looked around and i can't seem to find one that looks the same :S cheers in advance
This ebay shop is great for price & fast delivery, if you can do the soldering?
Mentioned in the other thread on these, I tried one out last w/e & it sounded good. I have a bit of a hankering for one myself. It did seem to me though that only the treble control had any great effect on the tone. The bass & mid seemed to do very little, and to my ears the bass switch up was a harsher, middly tone, where the manual says it gives a deeper tone. Think I need to step back & give this some thought. It would also be interesting to know how the first 100 hand wired in the UK compare to the normal ones built elsewhere? Not sure which the one I tried was
I haven't heard of any Chinese built in the UK yet so most likely was a handmade you tried. There are some mistakes in the online manual regarding the switches, I pointed these out to Ashdown a while ago but nothing seems to have been updated/corrected yet. As you said the Bass Shift works opposite to the instructions, like the Mute too! The Bright has no effect according to my hearing, which unfortunately is like the rest of me - nearly 60 Still a great sounding amp though, just don't expect tone shaping anything like a 12 band EQ Simples old's kool Cheers, John

+ 1 for the Dunlop products; FormulaNo. 65 Guitar polisher/cleaner & the Fretboard Ultimate Lemon oil - which BTW has a warning; "Note: Not for use on Maple fingerboards"! Far better for Rosewood + similar grained woods is to buy pure Lemon oil & thin it with a carrier such as Almond oil. Then apply with a toothbrush following the grain, polishing it off with cotton wool pads, applying more as required & polishing until the pads are clean. You will be amazed at the amount of Sh1T that comes off - even brand new fretboards, (not hand made custom jobs of course!) With second hand - I sometimes wonder what some people must have on their hands when they play!!!! A soft hair artist brush or even a camera lens brush is good for getting the dust out of all the crooks & nannies, best to keep a special duster for the polishing & those micro-fibre cloths for general cleaning all surfaces................................ A tip - if you have time - use a cloth between fingers & tuning heads to prevent early onset of rusty elephant ears! Cheers, John
Whoops I've bought an expensive bass and my much better half says I must now sell something to compensate. (I did suggest an old mobile but she wasn't amused) This is my immaculate Fender Precision deluxe bass in Shoreline gold and it looks very classy. It has a lovely maple fingerboard too. Fitted with the big musicman style pickup at the bridge it has a great range of tones to satisfy most styles. It comes with the deluxe case that has one broken catch, there is a catch & spring in the case but I haven't a clue how to fix it though. It's a 1997 model and has barely been played. I want £825 ovno delivered please. Thank you for looking.
That looks real sweet Tom, love the maple neck - is it 1.625" @ the nut & are they vintage style or 'normal' medium jumbo frets? Good luck with the sale - alas my pockets are empty Cheers, John
Thanks Lozz - looking forward to getting it now. Did you end up changing anything on yours? I'll (obviously!) put flats on it, but some more popular mods seem to be swapping out the pup, changing the bridge and replacing the pickguard with a 3ply. I'll wait and see what it sounds like stock, but wondered if you'd made any changes to yours? Cheers
You'll be chuffed with I'm sure. Mine's a beauty! Yes it's modified - Hipshot bridge, bass doc p/g & SD 1/4lb + black nylons = it's a real joy to play. I reckon the vintage frets on the maple neck make it for me. Cheers, John
