I bought a 2009 US Fender Jazz recently on this site - it's great and I love it - but it didn't come with case or any case candy. So I consequently don't have the allen keys to fit the bridge intonation and action height adjusters. I've tried loads of my own, and tho I can kinda get them to work none fits perfectly. What's going on there? Do Fender make them to their own "special" size, just so you have to buy theirs perhaps? Happy to do so if necessary - where can I get them from? Or if they are a standard size after all, can anyone enlighten me as to what they are? Thanks for your help...
I'm a firm believer in having the right tools for the job & that's often worth paying a little bit extra for, rather than 'the cheapest you can find in the world' from cheap jack shops! They often don't fit properly anyway & you'll end up with knackered screws. Here's a link to the good sort: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hexagon-Allen-Key-Sc...=item23055b914b If it's a standard Fender bridge it should be a 1/16" some like the BadAss are 1/20" or .05" Cheers, John

RotoSound NEXUS 4 string sets - USED for a couple of hours - Black coated Type 52 Alloy - NXB 45,65,85,105. These are really nice - 'for roundwounds' -- just not for me I've gone back to flatwounds on all my basses. They cost £30+ ! So if you fancy trying these on the cheap I have two 4 string sets - [s]£12 a set posted UK or £21 for both.[/s] SOLD Please Note: Both sets have been cut to fit 2 a side heads so will not fit Fender style 4 in a row. I've measured the shortest 'G string' at 42.5" overall. PS: They have been carefully removed & re-packed in original packs. BOTH SETS SOLD THANKS. Cheers, John
Good evening people! Just need to get some help before buying a little combo. I am after a 30watt (or there about), bass combo. Trouble is, I am after an amp with a wide range of sounds. Looking for an amp that will give me some old school, phat 70's bass sounds, Jazzy, blues. Right through to a more modern rock/metal sounds from bands of today. If there is anyone out there that could point me in the right direction. That wouls be great Cheers David
How much do you want to spend? If 'notalot' have a look for a s/h Trace Elliot Boxer, they're often on thebay! Hard to beat for the money, mine cost me about £75 - worth 3 or 4 times that I reckon in sound per pound There's 30 Watt into 10" speaker or 65 /12". I'm using a 65 watt set flat mostly - gain, bass mid & treble at 12 o'clock, volume usually around 9 o'clock & it's a great sound. Cheers, John

Nerdy string question - early Fenders (1950s)
KiOgon replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just had a look and mine are slightly different. I've seen an old pic advertising a Precision and the position of the silk varied with the string to be longer as it goes from E to G to match the Fender type headstock. With the silk as shown in your picture the strings are generic and would fit any 34" bass. I was hoping mine would be the Fender specific type, hinting they may be original but the silk doesn't start until a few rounds of the capstan. I think it'll take a while to get used to playing with flats, its a sound I have been careful to avoid for >30 years hence countless sets of Swing Bass!
Don't forget mine in picture above - Frank Bello bass - are strung through body so you can see 1" or so longer silks before the machine head than bridge strung. I just shot these - GHS 3060 strings on a 34" scale P bass, & 35" scale Skjold both hipshot bridges. -
Nerdy string question - early Fenders (1950s)
I think the Fender stainless flats still have green silks today.
Yep they do New style packet, but the strings remain the same Edit: Pics - Fender new & old packs + LaBella 1954's I didn't like the new MLs at first, but as it was nearly St Paddy's day I left them on now they're *run-in* they're pretty good for the price, a lot less £ than LaBella 1954 Oldies - which BTW I've not fitted 'cos they feel "as ruff as a badgers chuff" I expect they'd be ok after a week or 3, saving them as a spare set. -
Brand new bridge cover for P bass '51 P/N 0032979000 genuine Fender was a bargain $13.99 + postage from the states. It won't fit on mine sensibly 'cos it's got a Hipshot bridge, which is wider than normal & closer to bottom edge. [s]£12 + £3 P&P PayPal OK, cheque or cash[/s] Cheers, John SOLD, PAID & POSTED - Thanks
