  1. Four mates who all lived within spitting distance, each had a guitar, so we got together 'as they say', I was 12 or 13, so 1963/4. Roger had a decent 6 string, Frank was a leftie, his Mum bought him a special, Derek's older brother gave him a set of old drums, my Dad made a bass for me and that was it! Months of practise later we were playing at youth clubs, then bolder and braver gigs at village halls etc. followed by years of swapping players/bands gigging local but never 'making it big' ๐Ÿ˜
  2. I made a Jazz bass complete drop in kit for Jacek, absolute pleasure to deal with, great comms and instant payment, perfect transaction.
  3. Beautiful and a lotta bassfor the money ๐Ÿ‘
  4. A little exercise ๐Ÿคช with a amp connected to a 'good' mains supply, speaker/s connected to the amp and a instrument lead plugged in, switch the amp on and you will surely hear a small amount of hiss and hum, touch any metal part of the amp or the earth part of the lead and this will diminish as it is using your body as 'further earthing'. Same when you plug the instrument lead into the bass, given a good connection you will probably still hear a tiny reduction in background noise when you touch conductive and earthed parts. Anything more significant means you're not getting a good earth to your bass/guitar whatever.
  5. Do you have multimeter? It's possible that the coil windings are shorting out. What do you mean by; "and they're linked at the tone pot anyway"? Cheerz, John
  6. The wiring looks correct so could well be the tone pot or maybe the cap. have gone open circuit, do you have a multimeter?
  7. Hey Paul, Should have been there by now, collected Saturday but I just checked the tracking - no delivery attempted yet! Hope they get their finger out ๐Ÿ‘‰
  8. ๐Ÿ‘ looks good ๐Ÿ˜‰
  9. And - especialy if you have the star washers supplied, (or even left them out), the pots in contact with your copper tape shielding will give pretty good connection to the earth in my loom via the metal pot bodies, so no real need for an extra earth wire from your tape to earth. Cheerz, John
  10. Hey Mick, It looks like you have the pickup wires reversed in the terminals, I'm not certain from the pic. but the outer terminals, (right hand), should be earth/black/negative and the terminal that goes to the centre tag on the pots is the live/white or yellow/positive. Assuming your green and yellow is connected to the shielding somewhere or is it going to the bridge? That should also be as shown on my connection diagram. Cheerz, John
  11. Whatever gave you that idea ๐Ÿ˜
  12. Send it down to me if you want - PM me. Cheerz, John

    OLP MM2

Yes, can do a loom for that, PM me ๐Ÿ‘
  14. If you use the wrong knobs, for 1/4" shafts - yes they will go eccentric - but if you use the proper knobs for 6mm shafts the alignment of the screw with the split makes them fit concentric and tight.
  15. Yes, but only because I share my name with that bassy bloke from Dire Straights ๐Ÿ˜‚
  16. Agree with @JohnDaBass above, I have the DP127W in my AVRI '57 P, with GHS Precision flats, have always loved the dynamics, tone range and clarity, wired in series as standard. Never too 'boomy or bassy' ๐Ÿ˜ƒ plenty of top end, TBH never tried it in parallel. Always through my Ashdown LB30/112/48 ๐Ÿ‘
  17. I sold a P bass loom to Dave, perfect transaction, great comms and instant payment, diamond geezer ๐Ÿ‘ Cheerz, John
  18. Sid ordered a VBT loom from me, perfect transaction, good comms and instant payment, a pleasure to deal with. Cheerz, John
  19. Simon ordered a Jazz bass VBT loom, perfect transaction, great to deal with, recommended good fella. Cheerz, John
  20. Definitely not normal, idealy - do you have another pair of pickups you can try? If you can inspect the external solder joints where the pickup wires are and the wires are in tact, the probability is that the coil windings have for some reason been broken/damaged or detached from the solder tags inside.
  21. Sorry, late to the party! Good advice above and as said the wiring looks OK. Many manufacturers don't or didn't bother with a earth wire to the jack when mounted on a metal control plate, but as Gary - I always do a hardwire earth to every component, it only takes one to become loose and you can loose the continuity. Testing everything with a multimeter should find the problem/s. Good luck ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you decide on a new loom, easy option, โ˜บ๏ธ I'm here
  22. Gerry needed another loom ๐Ÿ˜ƒ, perfect transaction, he's a diamond geezer ๐Ÿ‘ Cheerz, John
  23. Pickups are out of phase, swap one pair of wires and try it, or something on the controls is shorting out.
