1.
I bought the guitar 'new' about 3 months ago. I suppose that maybe the guitar and certainly the strings could be any age depending how long it's been displayed in the shop. The clearance of the E string at the first fret is approximately 0.6mm.
0.6mm don't sound a lot - but the way I test is to tear a sliver of paper & put on top of first fret while fretting the string at the 2nd, if the scrap of paper falls out - the nut slot ain't deep enough also as above - check the high point of the bottom of the slot is towards the fingerboard - not the tuners.
2. How well cut is your nut? You are bending the E more/too much to fret if it's too high!
3. Bryan asked about options for his Jazz bass & after a few PMs he settled on a Volume Blend Tone set, super guy to deal with, spot on communications & instant payment - a diamond geezer Cheerz, John
4. So good I had to play it twice Best bass playing front man ever!
5.
I regret that neither account is correct. The issue of 'clay dots' was explored in successive articles in Guitar Player during the 1980's; the definitive explanation emerged in an interview with long-time Fender employee and consultant Freddie Tavares by GP staffer Kirk Esanvantio in the July '83 issue:
Superb Mr Skank
6. Hutton got in touch for a 'tidy up & upgrade' wiring loom for his P-bass, great guy to deal with - spot on communications & instant payment, a diamond geezer Cheerz, John
7. Mark got in touch for a upgrade wiring kit for his JHS Vintage P bass, great communications & instant payment, a pleasure to deal with. Cheerz, John
8. Lemon oil every time for me, whenever thing are looking a bit dry - but generally only when I buy a bass - new or previously owned, stick on a set of Flats & check maybe once a year I apply generously with a old toothbrush along the frets & up & down the grain then clean off with cotton pads or a cotton T shirt applying more Lemon oil as required until the rosewood has a bit of colour deep in it. If very dry maybe apply some Beeswax & polish in & off. No masking or faffing required. Edit: Yes removing all the strings at once is not a problem
9. A good honest description from a dealer must be right
10. It's just been on Radio2 news at 1.
11. Perhaps it's just me then! Earlier I got to the Paypal thing & it said there was a problem with my bank details or card or address - but nothing's changed. Now I'm on my laptop & trying to buy the same thing it doesn't even go to Paypal - ebay says: "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again." so maybe it's ebay not Paypal?
12. Currently waiting in the queue for customer service - ain't it wonderful until it all goes tits up
13. Trying to buy a item on ebay - like you do & it won't take my Paypal!!!

16. Today the usual Ocado delivery arrived, with a driver I don't think had been here before. Upon spotting something 'Marshall' in my hallway he started telling me about his son, his bass & drum playing, place at uni. etc. etc. Then got his 'phone out & showed me his 'music room' - unbelievable coincidences - my room is going through a serious makeover right now & this bass player drum bashing son of this Ocado driver has already got most thing just like mine is going to be, apart from the Marshall item in the hall ssshh! After of course I wished I had asked if he visited Basschat - but I forgot so thought I would ask here

18. I would think a needle file to enhance/deepen/enlarge the 'chosen thread' of the saddle should solve it!
