1. Another kit made for Andy - he's as straight as a dye - great to deal with, perfect transaction every time - highly commended Cheerz, John
2. Well said Shaun & if Howard sees this - all the best to him - I'm sure he's had a rough time, hope he's recovering. I'm not affected but looking forward to his return, it's good to know where to go for a 1st class job when you need it Cheerz, John
3. Here's my WD tort on AVRI '62 P-bass, unique pattern & smells of celluloid https://www.dropbox.com/s/5gqs9d7o6sopi48/2014-10-31%2018.13.58.jpg?dl=0 sorry about the flash reflection. I've still got the original Fender guard but liked the individual pattern on the WD, mind you I didn't pay so much for it
4. That takes colour blind or 'color vision deficiency' to a whole new level
5. It's not right & there's no way you should have to wait for it to be sent back anywhere. It's entirely the dealer's responsibility - if it came into the shop like it & they haven't touched it - or even if they have attempted a setup or whatever, it's their problem & not yours Such a shame to be disappointed over a lovely new bass, but stand your ground & get it replaced 'cos it's always going to niggle you if you don't. I'm sure Fender UK - East Grinstead will get it sorted
6. Personally I think the brown is OK, I've got a reddish one here, not sure if it came from him or not - but it's a bit naff
7. Furry muff This guy on ebay does a decent cheap plate; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCRATCH-PLATE-Pickguard-to-fit-USA-Mex-PRECISION-BASS-P-Bass-in-10-Colours-/191149735203?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item2c81697d23
8. Nice tort - Bad price! http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/precision-bass-us-standard----tortoise-shell-320-p.asp
9.
do a 61/62 staked job on it (look at the one on classic and cool) Do you do a conversion like this KiOgen ?
Yes I do; https://www.dropbox.com/s/0sqcp5r6hdyh3hh/2014-09-16%2013.48.39.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/gi7e2bf3lal8q1a/2014-09-16%2013.48.19.jpg?dl=0
10. The pick ups will/should both give the same performance (give or take) it's the position referenced to the string that makes the 'bridge' position normally more treble sounding. Try reversing the polarity, swap the wires - assuming they're black & white - try them crossed over on one pick up, first choice the neck position. Assuming you have VVT - with only one tone cap?
11.
I have a lovely Jap P bass, but the string spacing is a little wide for me - I've not accurately measured it but IIRC most Fender 4 strings are about 22mm at the bridge, and most of my other basses are about 19, or even 18 on the 5 strings. I'm happy with the existing BBOT bridge as long as I can use replacement saddles to narrow the spacing a bit - but there are choices. Current USA Fenders come with 3 or 4 quite large grooves cut in the saddles to allow adjustment. But vintage Fenders actually seem to have threaded saddles where the whole thing is grooved, but not as deep. Does either of these have an advantage over the other? And just as importantly - where's the cheapest place to get them? ta
I don't know where you've got that 22mm figure from? All mine are 19mm +/- a smidgen. If they were 66mm or greater across the bridge, the E & G would be too close to the edge of the fingerboard at 20th fret for comfort I'd think Easy to get the threaded saddle type on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-P-Bass-J-Bass-Vintage-Bridge-Assembly-/261680105943
12. Welcome - to the machine - pull up a pew & have fun Pics are of course - essential Cheerz, John

14. I made a wiring kit for Donald's Fenix Jazz, great guy to deal with, highly recommended basschatter Cheerz, John
15. Are you sure you specified "inches" on the order? Or was it one of those metric V imperial cock ups?
16. Seems to me the Alpha B25K jobbies would be for use with their active pre & totally the wrong pots for passive humbuckers
17. John just bought a Jazz bass wiring kit from me, perfect transaction in every way, he's a fine fella to deal with Cheerz, John
18. 1965 was it! I remember learning the bass line for that, must have played the single a thousand times over. RIP Jimmy, a sad loss.
19. I see your Fender mug - and I raise it with my Pink Floyd DSOTM 40th anniversary mug
20. What pots & shafts have you got? 5.9 or 6mm split/splined or 1/4" solid round?
21. A factor in the OP's bass is the blend pot used. there are various per cent of either pick up in the range of some pots, some will not take the J completely out of circuit when fully turned. Hope that makes sense
22. Thanks for that - I'll try to stay awake for it 11 - 12PM
