I had a Fender product from Strings Direct delivered by Interlink Express, the day I ordered it, I was given a email confirmation - it would be delivered Monday, with a 'Follow my Parcel Now' link. On the delivery day, this gave me a 1 hour time slot, the driver's name & online tracking where you can watch the van/driver's progress with an updated ETA for my parcel . My delivery was number 50 on his schedule & while he was making his previous drops, 48 & 49 I could see which roads he was in - just around the corner! Brilliant! Fascinating to watch as your parcel gets closer if you've nothing better to do & yes it was delivered in perfect condition, inside the 1 hour given. Correct size drill bit for thumb rest on a Fender?
KiOgon replied to franzbassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
John, I think it's the p/g that needs drilling.
Yes "the new p/g" needs drilling, no mention of if there's an old one though -
Right, just removed the tug bar from my 75 to have a look. A 3/32" drill bit is what you want. In metric I think approx .8mm
3/32" is almost 2.5mm BTW & if you want a clearance hole in the pickguard for the screw you'll probably need 3 or 3.5mm. Is the old scratch plate already drilled? Can you try a drill through the hole/s in that? -
Welcome back at ya excellent to have your expertise & experience on board, I'm sure you will generate a lot more interest in your cabs. Cheerz, John

I have just swapped the factory fitted strings off my Roger Waters P-bass for Flats, so if anyone would like to make a contribution to the basschat coffers they can have them - I suggest a minimum of a fiver is in order They're; Strings: Fender® USA Bass 7250M, NPS (.045-.105 Gauges) according to the Fender spec, but as they don't seem to know what size frets it's got I wouldn't be sure about anything I suppose they're 10 minutes or so used, just not my cup of tea. Maybe - just maybe - if you cut them you'll find Roger Water's signature right through the middle like a stick of Blackpool rock, or maybe they'll just make you play that Floyd stuff so much better then again - - - - Cheerz, John

Hi Heket, I have arthritis that comes & goes (like it does) when it's bad it stops me playing for long if at all & 'style' goes out the window Does it matter to you if it sounds like pick playing, as long as you're happy playing what does it matter? I'm sure it's been done before

The battery will almost certainly be connected when a jack plug is in the bass - so yes it shortens battery life when left plugged in. As for the rest - up to you - personally I like passive Cheerz, John

Dan got in touch about a wiring kit for his P-bass but was a little unsure about fitting it himself. It didn't take much to convince him & a couple of days later he's a happy bunny no problems! A real pleasure to deal with Dan, spot on communications & instant payment, an altogether top class basschatter Cheerz, John

Another wiring kit for Paul, this guy's straightforward fo deal with every time, one super basschatter recommended to all. Cheerz, John

As bass lines go - that's a real beauty thanks Mr JE
- - - - as stated elsewhere a tone bleed on the volums pots ain't gonna work since the signal is already lost and nothing can get it back (other than amp settings).
If the signal is already lost - no settings on any amp in the world can bring it back

Hi Gary, The only thing I can suggest is that the metal contact inside the Speakon has moved/broken/fallen out & I'd say a replacement socket will most likely fix it! Cheerz, John

Good score Mark - he's a lucky 'little' chip off the old noddle & looks as happy as Larry I was suitably impressed with a Harley five the other week, must admit the VFM is very high

If you have knobs with a grub screw in the side - fitted onto split/splined shaft pots, they're never a good idea - but there's a trick to fitting them Make sure the splined shafts are upright & parallel to each other, a flat screwdriver inserted & gently levered in the split will help but don't go too hard 'cos they break off quite easy. Then when you fit the knob onto the shaft make sure the grub screw lines up with the split, so as it's tightened the end of the screw tries to go into the gap. This will try to spread the shaft inside the knob & give you the best fit. Or of course you could fit brand new US spec CTS solid shaft pots & matching knobs there's someone here who makes lovely kits I'm told
I might be inclined to buy a pre-wired jazz loom, with clamps to installed pickup wires. Saves a ton of soldering crap.
+1
It looks like the existing pickups have screened cables, so the screens are soldered together on the middle pot and then the "hot" wire wired to it's own pot. The yellows look lke earth wires to the pickup cavaties.
That's about right, looks as if the red wires are extensions of the centre of the screened lead, to the middle tag on each respective pot - neck & bridge. To be honest - I would suggest replacing those pots & the jack socket with decent stuff To fit the Wilkinsons - the white from neck pup to centre of neck volume, yellow from bridge pup to bridge volume centre tag - (replacing the reds) both blacks from pups to pot bodies & leave the existing yellows where they are.

Cheerz for all the comments, I'll get a better feel for the pick up when I get some flats on it, briefly with the standard rounds - it's beefy & bright with a fair amount of treble/bass swing on the pot, but not THE P-tone for me I'll also be happier when I get some of the relief out of the neck - whatever it needs with the new strings - hopefully tomorrow, maybe worse with the Status flats but I reckon it'll be about the same. I'll give it a quarter turn when I change the strings I reckon for starters I've spent the morning cleaning up my other P's, this new black shiny thing was putting them to shame John
