1. Another wiring kit for Paul, this guy's straightforward fo deal with every time, one super basschatter recommended to all. Cheerz, John
  2. As bass lines go - that's a real beauty thanks Mr JE
4.
- - - - as stated elsewhere a tone bleed on the volums pots ain't gonna work since the signal is already lost and nothing can get it back (other than amp settings).
If the signal is already lost - no settings on any amp in the world can bring it back
  5. Hi Gary, The only thing I can suggest is that the metal contact inside the Speakon has moved/broken/fallen out & I'd say a replacement socket will most likely fix it! Cheerz, John
  6. Good score Mark - he's a lucky 'little' chip off the old noddle & looks as happy as Larry I was suitably impressed with a Harley five the other week, must admit the VFM is very high
  7. If you have knobs with a grub screw in the side - fitted onto split/splined shaft pots, they're never a good idea - but there's a trick to fitting them Make sure the splined shafts are upright & parallel to each other, a flat screwdriver inserted & gently levered in the split will help but don't go too hard 'cos they break off quite easy. Then when you fit the knob onto the shaft make sure the grub screw lines up with the split, so as it's tightened the end of the screw tries to go into the gap. This will try to spread the shaft inside the knob & give you the best fit. Or of course you could fit brand new US spec CTS solid shaft pots & matching knobs there's someone here who makes lovely kits I'm told
  8.
I might be inclined to buy a pre-wired jazz loom, with clamps to installed pickup wires. Saves a ton of soldering crap.
+1
It looks like the existing pickups have screened cables, so the screens are soldered together on the middle pot and then the "hot" wire wired to it's own pot. The yellows look lke earth wires to the pickup cavaties.
That's about right, looks as if the red wires are extensions of the centre of the screened lead, to the middle tag on each respective pot - neck & bridge. To be honest - I would suggest replacing those pots & the jack socket with decent stuff To fit the Wilkinsons - the white from neck pup to centre of neck volume, yellow from bridge pup to bridge volume centre tag - (replacing the reds) both blacks from pups to pot bodies & leave the existing yellows where they are.

Cheerz for all the comments, I'll get a better feel for the pick up when I get some flats on it, briefly with the standard rounds - it's beefy & bright with a fair amount of treble/bass swing on the pot, but not THE P-tone for me I'll also be happier when I get some of the relief out of the neck - whatever it needs with the new strings - hopefully tomorrow, maybe worse with the Status flats but I reckon it'll be about the same. I'll give it a quarter turn when I change the strings I reckon for starters I've spent the morning cleaning up my other P's, this new black shiny thing was putting them to shame John
  10. Welcome to Basschat - lovely bass, best of luck with the sale Edit: I'm always tempted by these but I've got the 'poor man's version' a Vintage Icon Series & couldn't justify the cost of the 'real deal' nice though Cheerz, John
  11.
Glad to hear that you have got the OK to play bass, from a medical expert. The OFPF can be too much of a stretch for a lot of people, regardless of the condition of their hands. As has been mentioned, use the thumb as a pivot and use fingers 1&4, especially on the lower frets. Below is a link worth checking out. I still think it would be a good idea to also include other exercises, like I previously mentioned. Best of luck, and I hope your situation improves.
+1 I have a lot of arthritis in my whole body, sometimes I can only play a short while & even that can be a struggle but usually eases off as I warm up. I found this video really useful - even for an old git who's pretty much set in his ways lot's of things to practise there
  12. Don't go to your 'local luthier' again & you'll be alright find a decent tech
That's quite the looker, John!
Cheers Andy I've been fiddling a bit, fitted a one hole Ebony thumbrest, tweaked the nut & ordered some Status Hotwire Flats for it, my fingers are not meant for cheese graters, when they come I'll do the final setting up.. then I'll get some better photo's done when it's finished Body shot complete with dust! https://www.dropbox.com/s/cmgk9on58xbfckv/2014-09-18%2013.16.28.jpg?dl=0 Meanwhile/anytime - you're very welcome to give it a go next time you're round Cheerz, John
There seems to be a dark line under the G string right next to the nut. Is it where it's been cut and filed? Lovely looking P bass
I see what you mean - no it's just a shadow/reflection - you had me worried for a minute In fact it is shortly going to get a little attention to the nut slots, they can come down quite a bit! Just waiting/giving it a chance to acclimatise before I start tinkering & fitting some better strings Cheerz, John
Funny, the serial number of mine is only three higher than yours. They must have made the trip across the ocean together. I love the neck on this model; the skinny vintage frets feel so good.
Yay! Sweet, I was very pleasantly surprised to find the vintage frets, after reading they had medium jumbos, in fact it was the only thing that stopped me getting one sooner That's the second time today I've found close cousins in the serial number department - my Fenix Jazz is only 278 away from another on here Cheerz, John https://www.dropbox.com/s/cmgk9on58xbfckv/2014-09-18%2013.16.28.jpg?dl=0
Is it a Roger Waters Precision? The brass nut and lack of truss rod plug make me think it is one. NBD I can’t do whole pictures yet – it’s so black & shiny it shows every bloody grain of dust & then a few more – I’ll get the maid to get her uniform on & give it a good going over with her feather duster – then I’ll clean it up & get some photo’s. Can you guess what it is yet? https://www.dropbox.....14.56.jpg?dl=0 Cheerz, John
  23.
Thanks - I've had a look at that ,very interesting, we're practically related, Cuz!! How's yours doing ?
It's one of my 'work in progress' basses as it was part sanded when I got it I thought I'd strip it & refin, well I started - but - - -. I got a Squier fretted neck in good nick to replace the poor defretted mess, machined the tuner holes to take the originals & put a decal on - NOT FENDER! - & sprayed the head. I'll get & do some more soon - - - - - Cheerz, John
