1. "Finding bass is less interesting for me than Piano" But - I bet you won't find any piano forum that's more interesting than this Enjoy whatever you do, it's all part of the rich tapestry of life :-( I'm not often so philosophical )-:
2. Love the flame effect on the back - perhaps a hint at what it is useful for
3. - - - - but I did measure that the resistance was about 20 ohm for the offending 20ft cable - - - - - That would be completely useless as a instrument cable- possibly OK as a washing line
4. Just out of interest - I have the ways & means of measuring these parameters so here you go! I had a Fender Gold Bass 12' Cable in front of me, (a bass dedicated, directional 'highest quality cable'), so I used that. If their claims are to be believed - there must be a 'lot worse' cables out there I suspect these reading would be hard to improve on Tip to Tip = 0.2 Ohms / 2.24 nF Screen to Screen = 0.1 Ohms / 0.18 nF Tip to Screen Open ended = Open Circuit (Infinity) / 1.79 nF Tip to Screen Shorted = 0.2 Ohms / 3.08nF Cheerz, John
5. Thanks to all for making it a great bash & thanks to Southern Rail for making our travel such F'ing hard work but we're home now whisky in hand looking forward to the photo's thanks Sylvia Cheerz, John
6. Hey Nick, The sun is shining & we're packing our bags already see you soon! Cheerz, John & Kaz
7. Hi & welcome, what are you doing this Sunday? Ideal opportunity to meet a load of us in the same place at the same time - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/237819-mini-bass-bash-in-west-sussex-sunday-31-august-2014/page__st__120__p__2534952__hl__west%20sussex__fromsearch__1#entry2534952, not far down the road from you Cheerz, John
8.
Would loved to have been there. Just have to hope for a DVD at some point.
Yes + 1
9. I had a mexican Jazz where the serial number had lifted off with the varnish, it was genuine & original, still in tact when I got it, sometimes I reckon there's a problem with moisture or contamination between the layers of finish when the logo & s/n are fitted after the primary coats. I'd say it was OK.
10.
Don't worry John, I went through this fiver business and came out the other end a committed four-string player. Just ride it out mate, it will pass.
I think you're right Mark, I'm coming through it already just done some work on a Yamaha [s]boat anchor[/s] 5er, nowhere near as nice as what I was [s]playing[/s] working on yesterday
11.
Have you been kissing my bass, John? Or did I misread that?!! Sorry if I I've tempted you towards the dark side...
Well - errr - not exactly I might have rubbed it a bit but it did seem to like it too I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one,I don't need one,
12. Or - I played a 5 & I liked it! Amazing as it might seem I've not had a fiver in my filthy greasy great mitts before & found it remarkably sweet to play, never thought the day would come Now I'm frightened I can feel the GAS starting already oh dear, just as I thought I was clear bugger
13. Yardbirds - Beefheart - Beatles! Blimey good sound
14. No problems here, it's a pleasure to deal with a guy who keeps to his word & Julian did exactly that. He contacted me about a replacement wiring kit for his P-bass, with solderless connectors. We quickly settled on the details then Julian said as he had a holiday booked he would pay me up front & let me know when he was back so I could send the kit a week later. The holiday week over, he contacted me again to let me know & also enquired about a Jazz bass kit - that he would like one but not be able to afford it until next payday. I offered to save on postage I would send both kits together, the P kit paid in advance & the J kit to be paid on 21/08. Julian acknowledged receiving & fitting the kits, all working fine, then we had no contact - until this morning - the 21st, as agreed, there was the payment exactly on the button at early doors. That brought a smile to me ol' boat race, just goes to show what a great place this forum is, where the guys & gals can trust each other like old mates. Long story but there - Julian is a great guy to deal with, top comms & payment as promised dead on time, completely trustworthy in my book, no problem in recommending him & would be very happy to deal with him again. Cheerz, John
15. You probably won't need anything like the 640 watts of the MiBass2 shown, I've got the original MiBass 220w - a used model would be well within budget & perhaps you could look at a better? more efficient? lighter? cab or 2
16. Not a combo, but amp in gig bag pocket & easy carry cab = http://ashdownmusic.com/products/1/Bass-Amplification/5/MiBass/
17. Listening to some old favourites on youtube whilst getting on with other things this afternoon, it occurred to me that a lot of the music I still love has been around a VERY LONG TIME! Will today's youth look back in 50 years & say the same? I don't think so
18. Hehe I'm 63 & if it wasn't for my bloody bones givin' up on me I'd still be gigging with the best of 'em - well figuratively speaking It's not the age as such it's a simple matter of having all the right bits working & in the right places at the right times - if you ask me
19. The American Special FSR's are excellent value for money, I'd say you won't find a better P/J for £713, brand new - bargain - go for it
20. Where's me time machine when I need it
21.
Maybe something to do with the tone capacitor? It may be shorting. (green dot in your diagram) check the legs of it aren't touching anything else, especially the leg connected to earth, or remove it completely and see how you get on (you can always put it back)
This ^ but I'd suspect the other leg of the cap shorting to earth, maybe to the shielding?
22. I've had, played fiddled fettled & sold a few Mexican Precisions, 2 fretted & a fretless if memory serves. They were all very nice, great to play, looked spot on, well made - but I sold them. I've got a few US P's, 3 in the rack, they're each really nice, even better to play, even better looking, even better made, never had a bad one & never wanted to sell any of them It doesn't matter what badge they wear, it matters that you enjoy what you buy & get on with
23. Still down & .com is the same! They must be loosing trillions shame
24. Genuine Paypal emails start with your full name - anything else is crap tons of it, every feckin day Apple too & I've never been near any isite
