1.
Well i did it! i got the tools needed together, sat down and watched a series of 4 short videos by John Carruthers and went for it!! Did the truss rod first, and immediately the buzz started disappearing,. Then followed his instructions and did saddles, checked intonation etc. Only thing i didn't have to do was the height at the nut, which i'm rather glad about because he might have looked confident filing away at a brand new bass but i wouldn't have been! Still going to keep practicing it on my OLP though, but both HowieBass and yourself are correct, i did sit there after thinking "Well that wasn't as bad as i thought"!
Well done to you for doing that, I was going to suggest you let it acclimatise for a day or 2 before you touched anything - but
2. Every good bass playing dog needs a bone Fill yer boots for £75 - or feed em to yer muttley
3. The thing is - if you had seen it in the shop & not been happy with the condition - would you have still paid the price? If the answer is no - then you have every right to send it back under the distance selling regulations & get your money back.
4.
Close ... but no cigar. The ink on a genuine £50 note never dries completely. If you rub one with a piece of white tissue paper, it's supposed to stain!

correct
I sit corrected I couldn't remember which way round it was
5. A little while back I did a private deal for £1250 - which I got cash from the bank for immediately before the meet up. £1K was in £50's - sitting in the guy's front room - he took a minute or so checking each £50 note before he was happy. IIRC rubbing the note on a sheet of white paper - if any red ink comes off onto the paper it's a wrong'n *apparently*! These were all good, as I had expected - having just got them from my usual bank
6. As a matter of interest - I don't think it's been mentioned - how did it get proved a fake?

9. My young'n looks after the PC for me, a while back I was having problems watching any videos especially YouTube. We found chrome was using so much of the processor there was nothing left for the video. Ditched chrome & used Firefox instead, no trouble with anything. Now I have a new dual core processor & Windows 7 professional, thought I'd try ie11 too. Basschat is the only site I've found problems with using ie do now I have reinstalled chrome to use bc with & plan on sticking with ie for everything else. Cheers for the replies, John

11. There's a few of them about http://basschat.co.uk/topic/184655-any-fenix-experts-out-there/page__fromsearch__1 Sorry pics of mine wouldn't help - it's a Jazz Bell plate, but if you need any help with the wiring get in touch via PM. Cheerz, John
12. Or there's ASTEROPE Cables ;-) Bob Babbit liked them! http://vimeo.com/59402492 Now available via JHS! http://www.jhs.co.uk/asterope.html
13. Or just to be really different - these are really very good - quality, VFM, looks & feel http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vox-VBC-19BL-Class-Professional-Cable/dp/B000Y7O0FK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392043717&sr=8-1&keywords=vox+bass+cable But to conform - OBBM
14. Right thing to do Lozz, it's soul destroying when the love & fun has gone out of it, definitely time to move onwards & upwards. Have a break - come back fresh - you never know what's around the corner. Best of luck, John
15. I would rather go for a £200ish Squire, Vintage or similar fretless & play with for a month or so before I altered my dream bass if it suits then go ahead, you'll get your money back on the cheapo no problem.
16.
R1 (the top one in the picture) is 1k, the other three are 100k. The three identical 100k ones were taped together in the kit to seperate them from the 1k one. In the component markings section R1 is labelled as brown, black, red and R2 to R4 are labelled brown, black , yellow. The instructions are actually really clear and easy to follow, I just don't understand why it doesn't work!
Yes, but what I was getting at is the kit in the Maplin photo appears to have different values. Edit: What writing does the IC have on it? Can you tell what it is or does the instructions say?
17. What does the kit instructions say about the resistor values? Looks like you have 3 x brown/black/yellow - 100K & 1 x brown/black/red - 1K, the ones in the Maplin photo look like 4 band marking & could all be 1Ks.
18. It's a < £300 bass, although the nut finish doesn't look nice, as in not finished off, I can't see how it's 'poorly cut'? If the string buzzing is causing a problem though - you have every right to send it back, if you start attempting a fix you might invalidate the warranty.
19. Welcome to the machine Loula Playing bass sitting down ain't so bad, you know - when you're legs are past their best - doesn't stop my shoulders aching though Have fun John
20.
This is a little worrying: http://www.bbc.co.uk...siness-25733346 This bit is definitely worrying: "... a lot of post goes on aircraft, even within the UK, so ask at the Post Office if you are sending a device with a lithium battery inside." Please be careful and follow the rules. They are there for a reason
Royal Mail issued a new booklet of prohibited & restricted items in July 2013, with particular sections on batteries of most types with specific rules for Lithium, which are banned UK & International if not within an electronic device. Every parcel I send I'm asked what's in it & if there are any batteries.
21. Good man - turn it up a bit I can't quite hear it from Bexhill
22. Paul is a totally top geezer - he sent me a pie & a pint for a little bit of a wiring job, lovely bloke, deal with confidence, great basschatter Cheerz, John
23.
I've used HipShot on all my basses and not had a problem, although there is a little trick to tuning it correctly.

I use a HipShot too, so come on, don't keep it to yourself, what's the "trick"?

Yes, what trick? Cough up now.
Another happy Hipshot user - awaiting the reveal
