5. Yep! Although I haven't managed to get to any bashes yet, I have made several meets at motorway services, stations etc. & quite a few have made the journey down South to mine. Every one has been a pleasure to meet, their partners too. I look forward to meeting many more in the not so distant future. Cheers, John
6. I don't like any shop that has no 'real world' contact name, location, address or even telephone number shown on their website. Not for me.

8. A lovely old Jazz with mojo a plenty Pedant hat on/ The 67 seen on the pot codes is not part of the date, in fact the only date that can be seen on the centre pot looks like 6644, 1966 week 44, the 137 indicating CTS manufactured.

Most Fenders from 1966 to 1969 have 1966 dated CTS pots. Apparently CBS/Fender bought a large stock of pots in 1966 that lasted till 1969.
How the Source-Date Code Works. In either case, the code works the same. The first 3 digits on a pot, or the first 2, 3 or 4 digits on a speaker are the source or manufacturer code. The remaining 3 or 4 digits are the date code. In 3 digit dates code, the 1st digit is the last digit of the year. On 4 digits date codes, the 1st and 2nd digits are the last two digits of the year. In either case, the remaining 2 digits are the week of manufacture (01 to 52). With this in mind, remember if the last two digits of the source-date code are greater than 52, you're not looking at the source-date code!
Cheerz, John
9. Another job for Mike, 2nd verse same as the first no problems - a right gent to deal with Cheerz, John
10. Well I started playing bass 50 years ago , made my first bass with my Dad in '64, played in a number of bands from '65 to '76, getting married in '75 sort of messed things up so I retired from the live music scene, having made a fortune that would last me forever always had a bass around the house, my interest in playing took off again when I got divorced in 2000 - I started playing around a bit retired from work in 2002 then in 2008 I found a new partner who encouraged my playing & still does Now my arthritic old bones slow me down a bit but I still play some most every day & fill my time doing a few repairs, set-ups, wiring jobs etc. did I mention looking at basschat occasionally?

18. Why not follow the suggestion & try a good cable - before asking more questions?
19. Try a good cable - bass to amp 1st! I remember last year working on a bass with a new Seymour Duncan 1/4lb SPB-3 IIRC, this had nasty noises when you touch the pick up poles, I measured a <2K resistance between the poles & the wires, I believe some of the inner windings were shorting to the poles.
20. I've had my Jaco (VJ96) over a year, bought 2nd hand through this forum, I prefer it over the Squier at similar prices. The playability is top score, I have it setup as good as any much more expensive bass & it plays perfectly. I much prefer the real rosewood fingerboard over the 'paper & resin' of the Squier, I have polished mine with lemon oil & beeswax, looks & feels good. All hardware is Wilkinson, quality components, the company has a good record for these parts, no problems at all & no need to upgrade anything, the pick ups give a strong output & have a wide range of tone with plenty of mwaaaah! Currently using GHS Black Nylon Tapewound strings, it's a delight to play. When I got it, still had the original roundwound strings & appeared to have been played quite a lot with hardly any marking to the rosewood. For a budget range bass I rate it as excellent value for money & would recommend it. It doesn't have the glossy shiny finish like a Squier, fits in with the road worn feel & looks, it's a player - not a looker I don't have any personal experience with the Squier so I won't knock it, I know many love them. HTH, Cheerz, John
21. Jeff is a top guy to deal with, I've made a few wiring kits for him now, every time he's been a pleasure to deal with, great comms & instant payment, a perfect gent. A highly recommended basschatter Cheerz, John
22.
I think you should use exactly the same kit as in 1978, you know, for the sake of complete verisimilitude ...
Good word Jack, +1 & the clothes Good luck Mark
23.
And not being funny it would be a shedload cheaper just to buy a bass like this in good condition you can pick them up complete on ebay for about £100 and it will cost a lot more to buy the parts to do your bass up even if you can source 2nd hand parts
Exactly this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stagg-XB300-Bass-Guitar-With-Case-/171208500823?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27dcd26657
24. The 5 holes look pretty much standard for a typical BBOT Fender style bridge, check the measurements, plenty on ebay going cheap. As for neck to fit, 63mm across the heel is a common size, again get measuring if it's a 34" neck it needs, you should find the bridge mounting screw holes are approx 280mm from the edge of neck pocket, (as a rough guide) & it looks like the P routing is definitely a 4 string. HTH, John
