Making your own with a piece of dog bone is cheap as chips.

Yep - you might have to go a long way to find a better deal than this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222633-fender-precision-usa-standard-2009-l650/page__hl__precision__fromsearch__1 That looks a bloody lovely bargain to me.
Another American P-bass driver here, best you can get by a country mile

Nothing looks amiss but can't see the capacitor legs clearly. It has to be said those Jap pots ain't the best & could be a fault in the tone pot.
I wouldn't worry about cutting the wires off them & putting a decent kit in there, best thing you could do IMO
I made a wiring kit for Nathan to convert his active bass to passive, we had lots of pms to sort out sizes etc, all first class comms, instant payment, a pleasure to deal with all the way.

I made a P-bass wiring kit for Eddie, excellent communications & instant payment, great no hassle transaction. With a few words of encouragement he had it fitted with no trouble.
Great guy to deal with,

whats the controversy?

No controversy - just there's only one bloke, Chris Squier, who ever got a decent sound out of one
I can just about keep up with Tom he's fitting 'em as fast as I can build 'em another P-bass kit for a top gent, always a pleasure to deal with, perfect transaction

I saw the £10K bid so had to look thought I would share it here.
If you had explained it in the first place I wouldn't have had to ask, the friendly nature of this forum is such that a lot of members like to share information. I can't see any harm in that.

Thanks for that folks - I may well have a go at swapping one around to see what effect it has. And it's nothing like the way a jazz 'spreads out' when you bring in both pickups Woodinblack - I know what you mean, but this just sounds wrong! :-)
Has anyone got a wiring diagram they could post for a standard two-volume-one-tone passive setup?

And here it is. Have changed the knobs and fitted Schaller strap lock pins, otherwise stock, and staying that way.
