Delightful & delicious, good job

To cover all basses you'll need one that doesn't always come in the cheap sets - Imperial 1/20" or .050". If buying a set it's better to make sure the smallest sizes are there - you're not likely to need any of the big buggers

I made a P-bass kit up for dunc, it all went sweet & easy, excellent comms & instant payment, he was a pleasure to do a deal with. Delighted to start a thread for him Cheerz, John

Not got one but had a fancy for one a long time, put a wanted ad up a long time ago & got no response. Good luck

I was lucky - I placed an order with Stewart Macdonalds, about $78 IIRC, then started wondering if I'd get clobbered for the VAT & PO Charge. Fortunately the parcel arrived with the proper value/details on the customs form, but it had been posted from Sweden where I presume the tools I ordered were made, anyway I didn't get stung, which was nice

I bought a graphics card from Cliff, great comms, he posted it right sharp, it arrived toot sweet & exactly as described, boxed with all the bits, no problemo. Great guy to deal with, Cheerz, John
2003 to 2006 was Satin Acrylic Lacquer Finish, not nitro. (Although it is a similar type of finish - just more stable and less prone to cracking / checking etc)
When you take a scratch plate off a 9 year old bass, that's never been off before - & you can still smell the cellulose - that's Nitro not what someone's read on the www somewhere.
I was interested in sunburst tho, see above
There you go then, 3TS = Nitro Cellulose http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/kjon51/Fender%2062%20Precision%20Bass%20American%20Vintage/150920111001.jpg

I sold 2 MiM P-basses last year IIRC £275 & £300, both in excellent nick, new strings with cases, 1 + gigbag, so I'd say that's the going rate for a good player that's clean/tidy. Also sold a Fretless MiM P, can't remember exactly, could have been a bit less

Need advice with custom '62 Concentric wiring
KiOgon replied to DanEly's topic in Repairs and Technical
Does any one know where I can get a loaded '62 plate?
Hello - is it me you're looking for? I can do a fully loaded '62 plate with or without switches as you wish - PM me if interested. Cheerz, John -
I have big fat arthritic old stiff fingers & for a while only played P-bass necks, but now find Jazz width very easy to get on with, in fact I swap from one to other without even thinking about it or noticing any real difference
^^ +1 very true ^^ My first bass was home made by my Dad mostly, when I was 13 or 14, I hadn't even seen a Fender or a Gibson then except on the TV & couldn't care less what was on my headstock. In fact it's only the past few years (in retirement) I've had a Fender at all. My gigging years were all done with a Gherson Jazz bass.

Check the nut slots are deep enough so the strings are 'not far off' touching the fingerboard at that point, then you can work on the truss rod & saddle height, (+ intonation), to get a really low action. A 24" steel rule or even a proper straight edge is very useful for showing up high spots & the correct relief . Is it a original fretless neck or a de-fret? The latter is likely to have the nut too high
-
The thing is - to me & many I think - a P/Precision bass ain't really a Precision unless it's a Fender P/Precision bass & a J/Jazz bass ain't really a Jazz bass unless it's a Fender Jazz bass, end of! Everything else is just a copy. If it says Fender Made in USA on it that's like having Leo's DNA running through the wood grain
-
OK I confess - nothing beats a Fender badge except a whole load of Fender badges

Bass Direct's got another RARE Precision, pricey though!
Anyone else use Surgical Spirit? If I've been on holiday, or away from the bass for any period of time, I find that it toughens the skin on my fingertips with no loss of feel. Not for open wounds though!!!!

What strings are you using? If they're nickel it could be exacerbating the problem.
Surgical spirits is good stuff for skin & strings, you can kill 2 birds at once by cleaning your strings off after every session with sugical pririts on a cooton pad or soft cloth, getting it on the fingers & strings at the same time + it will clean any dead skin & detritus out of the strings making them cleaner & healthier to minimize contamination or aggravation of any dermatic condition. First thing I do with new strings before fitting them is to rub them hard along the length with a pad soaked in surgical spirits, you might be surprised at the black muck that comes off some brand new strings, depending on the manufacturing processes, oils etc. used.

I wouldn't have minded doing a bit in Pink Floyd
