I wouldn't have seen this post if it hadn't popped up in 'View new content' & as I don't advertise very often might not have seen it for a very long time. I am very happy to subscribe for all the benefits the forum brings to me, not just the 'pay to advertise' - perhaps a general SUBSCRIBE tab could be added somewhere prominent? Cheerz, John

Very good & well put together, interesting variation there - why do I like the bongo? Can't be right
Okay, so I took the neck off, adjusted the truss rod, put the neck back on, applying a bit of pressure to push it back into alignment. Result? Strings aligned, action nice and low. Plays just like my other P now. Panic over.
Well done that man, enjoy your P

You can hardly blame Fender for making a P-bass with the truss rod adjustment the same as probably several million other Fender basses. No offence but if I was buying a new bass I would have taken note of how & where the truss rod adjustment is, after all it's a pretty basic & fundamental requirement. Almost all users at some stage will want to change strings at least & that in itself is quite likely to require a truss rod tweek. Not to mention setting the action to personal preference, the factory settings are an 'average' at best. The bridges are fitted to pre-machined 'CNC' holes, it's not likely the bridge is 'in the wrong place'. Most likely that somewhere along the line - shipping - storage - shop - storing/packing - delivery to customer - even customer handling - that the neck has been mis-aligned by 'a bump'. The fact that the neck has to be loosened to get to the adjustment also gives the opportunity to 'nudge' the neck location in the pocket before the neck plate screws are re-tightened, to improve the alignment. If you are not happy or confident to make adjustments yourself, then you'll have to find someone that will do that for you, not a Fender quality issue, it applies to any other bass you could buy. Just my 2p worth. Cheerz, John

"an old Encore thing" can be made very playable, you're fighting not playing without a decent setup, do yourself a favour & find someone 'nearby' who can have a look & advise or even show you how to do your own setup. Bring it down to Bexhill & I'll have a look for you only 575 miles apparently

Technique combined with action & strings - mostly overcome with practise - develop a smoooth style, try a fretless I'd make sure the nut is cut deep enough & the action as low as you like, then practise minimal finger pressure onto each fret with a smooth style. BTW - not a silly question at all & welcome to the machine

Do strings vibrate at the same pitch underwater?
KiOgon replied to EssentialTension's topic in Accessories and Misc
Surely pitch is down to the frequency/speed the string vibrates & the string under water, damped by it's surrounding 'heavier than air' will be slower - lower frequency therefore a lower pitch. Edit: If anybody wants to come & play their bass in my Koi pond they're welcome to. It's about 4 degrees C around now. -
Someone told me those Gibsons are heavy but if a little old lady like Nancy can manage them perhaps they're not so bad Very nice bunch there
Hi, I'm starting a PJ build, and I'd like to do the following configuration: 1 volume knob 1 tone knob a 4-way switch for: P-only; PJ-series;PJ-parallel;J-only I've googled everywhere, browsed a number of sites, and I'm coming up dry! Can anyone point me in the right direction - a wiring diagram, which switch to use, anything? Thanks!
I've done one of them for someone here, can't remember who - but I've got the bits & the circuit somewhere - send me a PM
What a sweetie she must be. Edit: Mind you, she's got the tug bar in the wrong place.
Oh no she hasn't

Nice to see you H. The short story is they fly & get priority treatment, as live animals, mostly done at Heathrow I believe.
Shouldn't this be in 'the price of tuna' thread..?
NO!

A pet! I was looking at prices of some terriers earlier, out of interest I [s]have a cat[/s] look after a cat that chose to come to live here, costs me in food & vet's bills etc. only, then I have my Koi, all bought years ago as tiny little things that have grown quite big now. I received an email today which made me think - how much is a bass 'worth' compared to a pet - a Koi for example how much would you pay for a fish? As much as a bass? http://www.koi.jpn.com/index.php/koi-for-sale/japan-now
When I started playing, The Shadows was really the only band to aim for. G.
Likewise we used to practise the walk in my mates front room where his mum had a big mirror

Good pics but unfortunately not enough info to see, it needs proper investigating, can't diagnose from here, may well be a fault in the circuit/components & not necessarily the actual pot that's the problem. Cheerz, John

He's a good lad to be sure, that's a whole lot bluer than the black pearl he made for me very blue indeed lovely

Start with it in situ if you can get a good shot? Any letters/numbers on will help.

Hey Myke, if you can post pictures of your pot & wiring I might be able to suggest a replacement. Cheerz, John

The Humbucker is the problem IMO. I believe it's the way the 2 coils are wired & interact with the single coil pup. I don't have any Humbuckers here to experiment with though. I've been throught this same problem recently without finding the answer unfortunately. The Fender AV '62 Jazz bass circuit has worked for most other pickups but not with the Humbucker it seems. http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/bass_guitars/019-0209C_SISD.pdf The '62 uses 250K volumes & 500K tones, (concentric pots) with no problem, separate pots make no difference. I don't think the treble bleed will help either. Cheerz, John

I just bought a TC Flashback from Andy, it's exactly as advertised or even better, as new, endless hours of FX for me now A real pleasure to deal with, great communication, superb bit of kit, original packaging etc. & posted exactly as promised, just great as BC deals should always be, no problem at all .
