1.
I opened up my classic series jap precision last weekend to find that there was no screening at all.. no foil on the guard, not even the black conductive paint that gets everywhere. Dunno if that's a usual find or not... but I digress.. I lined the cavities using some aluminium tape I had left over from the last guard I fitted, and made a 'tube' out of tin foil (wrapped it round a screwdriver) to go between the cavities, which the pickup wires went down just nicely. Continuity checks out and it's quiet, so... maybe an option for you?
Yep if you have a problem with noise from tube lights or whatever - every little helps. Another trick is to strip a piece of coaxial cable & use the outer screen around the pick up wires, or at least the 'hot' with the screen soldered to the screening. Some coax you can cut a length of a few inches & pull out the centre conductor with it's insulation leaving a nice hole to put your own wiring in. Cheerz, John
2. No need to remove the ground wire from the backs of the pots, which should also link to the jack socket centre & yes if you feed a wire through to link the shielding in both cavities it'll be great! Cheerz, John
3. I have the MiBass 220 through my Ashdown 112 & 48 cabs. I reckon they've doe a great job on the whole EQ thing, you can make it hiss on full treble but you can do that on any amp if it's working The choice of EQ or flat is great & instant return to your settings + the Deep & Shape buttons do exactly what they say. My only slight niggle would be: personally I don't think it's very loud! Maybe just me being old fashioned but I'd say my Little Bastard 30 all valve watts are 'louder' than my MiBass 220 S/S watts but that's not out there in the real world, just me in mine doing what I do playing bass Cheerz, John PS I thought the same about Ashdown's 100 Watt + 210 mini rig, what was it called? First impressions were "How could that be 100 watts"? But I'm old school you see No experience of the GK BTW sorry.
4. OK the wire in the link is fine, in fact almost anything with a conductor will do, nothing specific, no current or voltage involved, worth considering. Cheerz, John
5. Hey Dave, PM your address & I'll send you a bit mate. Cheerz, John
6. Stick with the Yamaha & save up until you can afford a proper bass not one churned out of a factory in China, it's only gas
7. Looks like you've been stitched up mate Best of luck - seriously hope the op will prove it's worth in the not so long term, fingers crossed for you . Cheerz, John
8.
Excellent, that sounds like a winner - I'll have a play when they arrive. Now I just need to work out how to wire it up.
From the 6 way connector on the amp board, (looking at the circuit lets call the top/black/No.1), you should have a black wire, (common) going to the centre tab of your bass select switch, you need to link that to the centre of the new up/down switch, then from the same 6 way connector, you need to wire No. 4 blue to the down side & No.5 yellow to the up. Either way on the new switch, then fix the switch to suit. HTH, John
9. Well done Skol, you nearly got my vote but a Momentary Lapse of Reason & a touch of Granchester Meadows wouldn't let me
10. Like it a lot, reminds me of Adam Clayton though
11. If my memory serves me well - the old Post Office Jack Plugs were a bit bigger than 1/4" not smaller
12. Polytune gets my vote, accurate & easy to see + solidly made, should last a very long time.
13. Now I'm awake looking at the circuit, one of the micro toggle switches I've sent will do the job instead of two buttons, centre biased toggle, up/down momentary action, should be ideal & will probably match your bass select switch. Give me a shout if I can be any further help, Cheerz, John
14. Borrowed - http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f18/ebonol-fingerboard-care-837432/
15.
You can also get non-latching sub-miniature toggle switches from Maplin - see here. It's not clear whether they are all available, but types D and H should do the job. Also I have previously ordered stuff over the phone from Roland Extras - 01792 702701.
I just saw the above - I've got plenty of those too - I'll open the bag & stick a couple of them in too
16. I must admit - after Nige's poke I've had a fair listen to them all & what an inventive lot you are I saw the photo first of course, which set a preconceived sound trail in my head, so right or wrong I think I've voted for the soundtrack that came closest to my mind set. Very good
17. Honestly hadn't even seen it Nige, I'll have a look/listen now - thanks for the heads up
18. Just momentary action push button as far as I know, I only have those colours, the blue have short wires on, the green don't. PM your address & I'll send you a couple to try, foc. Cheerz, John
19. Hi Ped, I have a load of these - they are momentary action, not latching, you are very welcome to some to try if they're any good to you? Cheerz, John
20. My son has just had trouble finding a courier for a bike & a car seat. Both big & awkward, now he's found parcelmonkey, maybe worth a look.
21.
Looks real to me, shame its a slab board, and not slab body, mind you, it would be 5x the price if it was!
Ah yes! That would explain it, there may just have been a little confusion in my poor old mind there for a minute or 12 Cheerz, John
22. I just spotted this on ebay real or not - I dunno http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Players-1961-Slab-board-Fender-Precision-/221118283124?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item337bad3d74&_uhb=1#ht_500wt_1201
