1.
Your pickups are out of phase. Swap the wires on one of them.
+1 Most likely! IIRC the SD P/J blend circuit works better without the ground to the blend pot body, apart from that both diagrams are good.
2. Many thanks for all the input & wise words, I'll certainly relay your thoughts but I have a feeling it's going to be shop bought most likely Bonners as they're close http://www.bonnersmusic.co.uk/drums-acoustic-drum-kits.irc or online. From my experience with Bonners - they never do anything 'bargain price'! So I'll put forward some online recommendations to maybe save him a few bob, having said that - he's not short of readies it seems! I don't think he's got the time, patience or any knowledge at all to look at 2nd hand & as it's to be a 'very big' Christmas surprise, new boxed & all that will be what he's after I'm sure. Cheerz, John
3.
If he doesn't want to get annoyed with him tell him to go electric
Very true - first thing I said to my mate was - he'll drive you mad but he wants a 'real kit'
4. A mate's son is interested in getting a kit & I'm getting asked what he should buy him! I know nothing - but saw this - any good??? Your suggestions welcome http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/62272-gretsch-cc-r845-cos-catalina-club-24-5-piece-kit-copper-sparkle-.html?utm_source=Dolphin+Newsletter&utm_campaign=3bca5f3fd6-Just_landed10_8_2012&utm_medium=email
5. Why not advertise 'like minded muso's wanted' & see what/who's around/also looking in your area? Start something yourself maybe
6.
Will it retrofit standard Fender bridges, with just 3 screws?
Yes they do - excuse my interjection
7. I have what looks very much like one of those bodies which I have fitted a used Vintage (JHS) P-bass neck on. I filled the 4 holes in the neck with wooden BBQ skewer & PVA, then re drilled to suit. No problems. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/kjon51/22082011853.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/kjon51/22082011858.jpg Cheerz, John
8. Bloody heck! How long have Fender been doing Dayglo Pink? It looks good & I bet it sounds good & feels good too
9. At the risk of repeating myself, (Gary has had a kit or 2 from me before ), he's a top bloke to deal with, always a pleasure Cheerz, John
10. Oh to be young again you've got the rest of your life to play bass, enjoy your little'n while you can If it's any consolation, I'm 61, was married for 25 years, been divorced 12 years, retired 11 years, kids left home long time since, there's just me, the 'mistress!', the cat & the fish Guess what - there's still not enough hours in a day to settle down with a bass uninterrupted for an hour - even 5 minutes sometimes
11. Just remembered - weeks ago Howard made me a special little black [s]dress[/s] control plate for a Jazz bass. 1st class job as always, cheap as chips & even went to extreme length to post it while on his hols, (from somewhere in the lake district I think!). He's a 24 carat gold fella. Cheerz Doc, John

13.
Rock on! This is a great forum with a multitude of really well-meaning/helpful/empathic people. Love it. Good on ya Gareth and thanks for sharing kennyrodg (PS, terribly sad to hear of your loss)
This + 1
14.
I opened up my classic series jap precision last weekend to find that there was no screening at all.. no foil on the guard, not even the black conductive paint that gets everywhere. Dunno if that's a usual find or not... but I digress.. I lined the cavities using some aluminium tape I had left over from the last guard I fitted, and made a 'tube' out of tin foil (wrapped it round a screwdriver) to go between the cavities, which the pickup wires went down just nicely. Continuity checks out and it's quiet, so... maybe an option for you?
Yep if you have a problem with noise from tube lights or whatever - every little helps. Another trick is to strip a piece of coaxial cable & use the outer screen around the pick up wires, or at least the 'hot' with the screen soldered to the screening. Some coax you can cut a length of a few inches & pull out the centre conductor with it's insulation leaving a nice hole to put your own wiring in. Cheerz, John
15. No need to remove the ground wire from the backs of the pots, which should also link to the jack socket centre & yes if you feed a wire through to link the shielding in both cavities it'll be great! Cheerz, John
16. I have the MiBass 220 through my Ashdown 112 & 48 cabs. I reckon they've doe a great job on the whole EQ thing, you can make it hiss on full treble but you can do that on any amp if it's working The choice of EQ or flat is great & instant return to your settings + the Deep & Shape buttons do exactly what they say. My only slight niggle would be: personally I don't think it's very loud! Maybe just me being old fashioned but I'd say my Little Bastard 30 all valve watts are 'louder' than my MiBass 220 S/S watts but that's not out there in the real world, just me in mine doing what I do playing bass Cheerz, John PS I thought the same about Ashdown's 100 Watt + 210 mini rig, what was it called? First impressions were "How could that be 100 watts"? But I'm old school you see No experience of the GK BTW sorry.
17. OK the wire in the link is fine, in fact almost anything with a conductor will do, nothing specific, no current or voltage involved, worth considering. Cheerz, John
18. Hey Dave, PM your address & I'll send you a bit mate. Cheerz, John
19. Stick with the Yamaha & save up until you can afford a proper bass not one churned out of a factory in China, it's only gas
20. Hey Duke - YHEM John
21. Looks like you've been stitched up mate Best of luck - seriously hope the op will prove it's worth in the not so long term, fingers crossed for you . Cheerz, John
22.
Excellent, that sounds like a winner - I'll have a play when they arrive. Now I just need to work out how to wire it up.
From the 6 way connector on the amp board, (looking at the circuit lets call the top/black/No.1), you should have a black wire, (common) going to the centre tab of your bass select switch, you need to link that to the centre of the new up/down switch, then from the same 6 way connector, you need to wire No. 4 blue to the down side & No.5 yellow to the up. Either way on the new switch, then fix the switch to suit. HTH, John
