Before the new Ibanez arrives... Here's my black thru-neck faker. Bought sans TRC, so I have no idea what it is... I swapped the cracked white pickguard for a black one, and got hold of a matching TRC. I'm not using the GT10B as much as I thought I would be these days... It's a brilliant bit of kit but I can't justify it sitting there doing nothing when i've more basses to add to my ever growing collection!! Any takers??? I was listening to a guy playing his guitar with a FMB-1 today and I thought it sounded really good... kinda reminded me of my old Alembic F2-B in tone a bit. Anyway on the way home I thought I wish i'd tried it with the bass. I know it's a guitar pedal but I was wondering if anyone had tried it with there bass?????

Replacement speaker for an Ashdown ABM 500
hookys6stringbass replied to hookys6stringbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well in that case, download WinISD Pro, calculate your cab net volume and current port tuning frequency, and start modelling drivers. See if you can get the T/S parameters for the current speaker - if you contact the speaker maker (not Ashdown) with the serial number you may be able to get them. He may not be clueless about many things bass related but anyone making a sweeping statement as he did is acting in a clueless manner at that point in time. The Gamma 15 and Truvox 15/30 aren't great speakers. The Xmax on the former is poor and on the latter terrible. Probably no worse than the original speaker but unlikely to be a significant amount better. The Truvox is a great example of why power handling ratings aren't of much use for bass guitar - it's thermally rated at 400W but with Xmax=2mm it's excursion limited to well under 100W. Alex
Wow thanks for the advice i'll down load that asap. Thsnks Alex. -
Replacement speaker for an Ashdown ABM 500
hookys6stringbass replied to hookys6stringbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Unfortunately he sounds like he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Passion is all very well but you have to know how to apply it. If you want to change how your cab sounds you need to analyse what you want to change about the sound and then go through a logical process of ascertaining how to achieve that change. But if your cab really does sound superb then I can't think what you could want to change. The best standalone 15" speaker for the money IMO (and I have done a LOT of searching) is the Eminence Kappalite 3015. But you do pay for that quality. And you may not like how clear and bright the top-end is and how strong the midrange is. Alex
Ha!! He's certainly not clueless.... I understand what you're saying Alex and you make alot of sense, but for me I have to dispense with the Mr Spock logic sometimes and try things out as the 'what' if factor will drive me nuts. Yes the amp sounds 'superb' but'what if' I can get it to sound even better or discover a warmth or what ever I hadn't heard in the amp before. -
Replacement speaker for an Ashdown ABM 500
Exactly! Changing speakers on a whim when you already think it sounds superb is not a wise idea. Alex
I know what you mean, but this guy I was talking to was quite passionate about what he was talking about and it really has got me thinking 'what if'. Im hoping to pick some drivers up off ebay. So far i've been recommended .... Celestion 15/30 tru vox Eminence Gamma -
I've got an Ashdown ABM EVO III combo which I thinks sounds superb, however I was chatting to a fellow bassist in the studio about the speakers Ashdown use and was told that if I liked the sound i'm getting now i'll love the sound of my amp with a Celestion tru vox (think that is what he said) in it. Like I said I think the amp sounds great at the mo, but the chat I had has got me wondering..... can anyone suggest a replacement speaker for my amp???

I've recently treated myself one of these superb basses- the one thing that bugs me is that it only has 20 frets and all my other basses are 21 and over. Is there any way I can get it fitted with an extra fret as I do go up to the high E quite a bit????
Hey Hooky I believe it is I that should bear the brunt of your wrath, as I was the instigator of this thread! I underestimated the value of the framework for an Ashdown cab, and as you can see I was shot down by several members! Did you manage to shift it? Apologies for any offence caused, feel free to gimme a verbal bitchslap if you like! *big apologetic mug of cybertea held out as a peace offering*
No offence caused mate- in fact I found some of the comments very amusing! i've got a few days left yet and quite a few watchers (bet its you lot waiting to rip the piss again ) Thanks for the tea
It was £70 + £30 postage. Personally I think that is too much but I do like the idea of using it as a novalty coffee table.
Your wrong there mate it was collection only.. I was trying to save myself the hassel of wrapping it!!!

I've had a custom bass cab built for my Ashdown ABM Evo 3 C115 bass amp and have the original cab up for sale on ebay. Had planned to stick an ABM 900 amp in there or my Peavy pro bass 500 but I know I won't get round to doing it. So i've changed a habit of a life time and not horded it but stuck it up on ebay here.... Looking good MB1. How you getting on with the chorus?? I've heard they are a pile of crap, having said that i'd still like to find out for myself....

Had a bit of a go at it this lunch time, it's quite involved, not in a bad way tho (well for me) it's so tweakable!!!!! I've got the GT-6B( used live and recorded with) as well and the GT-10B pisses all over it from a great height! Is it worth getting ? I'd have to say yes. I'll try and remember to post my findings as I explore it...
I want to know if it is going to be worth getting, I know they will be about £350.
Yep i've got one. I've not had a chance to put it through it's paces yet, but i'm really impressed with it ,sounds fantastic. Theres so much you can do with it.
I bought one off ebay about 18 months ago for 20 quid, bought it for a project i fancied doing, the neck was knackered but the body was fine, nasty plywood, heavy as hell, i still have the body, pickups and tuners,i've just started on it, only got as far as priming the body.
Any photos, what colour was it originaly??
