1.
"People buy people first". It's a phrase we use in selling. You need to get the guy to like "you" as people. He won't buy into a Web page. When applying for jobs ever wondered how many CVs attachments in emails never get opened, simply because the covering letter message didn't excited them? Now, you were actually THERE... You can lead him through it and you might get the job. As a band you can have a fantastic Web presence. You can have loads of 'likes' and testimonials. But if the customer is too busy loading in the beer and cleaning tables to go online then how good is that? Now if your drummer's pretty girlfriend was standing in front of him with a tablet of pictures and a smile on her face, would he notice? Can he completely ignore her?
Drummers girlfriend! Didn't know they had one. At the risk of sounding sexist, and I have heard tof this happening, if your band has a female singer you will get more gigs. Although I put this down to sexist mature of the landlord.
2. Interesting thread this. My story is that 2 years ago i had my 1st hearing test and have moderate hearing loss in the higher frequencies. i am borderline having hearing aids. Fast forward to the recent NYE gig and and the next day i experienced tinnitus for the first time. It has lasted for most of the month in varying degrees. I have been to the doctor and will be referred back to the audiologist for another hearing test and further examination. I decided to get the Flare Isolates in aluminum in order to get me though the next few gigs and see if they can help me. Well, what a revelation. I am really impressed with them. It's just like having a volume control in your ears. I could still hear everything clearly. No major loss of the high frequencies, which was my concern. Vocals and guitar in the monitors. Vocals were fine. Guitar generally good with the solos and riffs etc, although i had to listed out a bit for some of the other parts but that was to be expected. My bass and the drums sounded great. They will be used all the time now. I was a bit freaked out at first doing BV's as they are really loud but for the 2nd set i was ok with it. They are very comfortable indeed. The tinnitus has reduced down now to a very low level so it will be interesting to hear what the audiologist has to say. I took a dB reading on my phone during the gig where i stand and it was averaging around 90 with a the odd peak just above that. Lower than i thought but still plenty for an hours set.
3. Our 3 most popular regular pubs have already booked us for all of 2017, including NYE. One organises a local steam rally in August and we are booked for the first time. First gig this Saturday.
4. I have a TC Classic 450 and Barefaced 2x10 which is plenty loud enough in my rock covers band. On the odd occasion I need more volume I put a bit through the PA. Got to 4 on the master volume in one pub. Second hand price for both was well under a grand.
5. Got my ticket with the BassChat discount Can only be there for the Sunday but looking forward to going there and catching up with so BC's at Ped stand.
6. I foolishly passed on his show in Exeter some years ago when he came down to the Mansons guitar show. This is a bit too far.
7. I had one but have since sold it. Mine was light and would neck dive. I read a BGM review and they had a fairly heavy one. I even contacted the online shop i bought it from and they said they all weigh the same as mine. I started a thread here about it and got some good advice if you search. That said it was a nice bass to play. It felt and looked good. After playing my Stingray for years it felt inferior but good value for the price. I would suggest trying one out first if you can, even if it is a fairly cheap bass. Out of the other options out there you could do worse. The guys l sold it to wanted a cheap Fender copy and put flats on it.
8. Planning to go on the Sunday as part of a London visit with some of the family for the weekend. Looking forward to it.
9. Cracking song. We play it in our band. With ACDC its more about the feeling and interaction with the drums and guitar. There aren't usually that many notes but that doesn't mean they are easy. This one isn't too bad. Listen carefully and play along to the song.
10. Hi and welcome to the forum. Will you be able to do some real life Japcrap spotting for us all and post to that topic? I trust you have had a look there!
11. Renault Kangoo will more than do the job.
12. Hi from Devon. Enjoy the forum.
13. Hi and welcome. I was in Orlando not long ago and visited BB Kings blues bar and caught the excellent Trae Pierce & T-Stone band. Had a great time. Enjoy the forum.

18. I've not had anyone do this behind our backs. A few times people have asked to pose with the instruments and mics which is ok. The last time somebody had a go without asking as such was a when a young lady joined us mid set to 'help out' on the drums. She somehow got a spare stick and joined in on the cymbals and floor toms. She was surprisingly in time. In order to do this she had to sit on my cab (the barefaced cheek of it!.-check my sig) It certainly looked like she was enjoying herself. I'm not sure if it was the drumming or having my bass notes pulsate through her.... I was videoing the gig with my 'Bass Cam' so got a good bit of footage. After a few minutes her friends gestured for her to leave as their taxi had arrived. Haven't seen her since.
19. No. Although recently I was checking my tuning with harmonious and a guy approached me later and said it reminded him of Jaco!
20. £200 to £250 for pub gigs is the norm down here in the SW. I can't see that changing anytime soon. If you feel you deserve more or can command a higher fee then you will need to justify it.
21. One of my favourite bands. Played a few songs along the way. Tried to get a tribute band together but didn't work. Would loved to have seen them live but never mind.
22. Some good tips here. FWIW, I suggest smiling (not looking bored) is a good idea. Also don't nod your head like a demented chicken. OK, I'm 50 now and generally just move around the stage. I will move next to the others and interact a bit. Rocking out with the guitarist whilst in a rock stance. Singing bv's into the singers mic with him. Interact with the drummer with some rhythms we both share. Use my bass and point it a bit. Have fun.
23. That not good to hear. I can vouch for the colour as I have it
24. Howdy Yank.
25. Strings, leads, batteries should do for most incidents. A DI box is useful too if your amp or cab fails. I have had to replace or use all the above at one time or another.
