We have just upgraded to EV ZLX15P active speakers. A big improvement from our ancient underpowered passive system. For around £900 you can get a pair with the proper covers.
I have D Tuners on 2 of my basses. They are a simple and cheap mod compared to buying a 5 string. I personally don't get on with 5 strings and have not had to go lower than D so it's a win win situation for me.
I watched his set expecting something a bit special, but was slightly disappointed TBH. Too many 'special guests' for it to flow. The bass player was very good though.
In our band I work the desk so get comments from the other band member and friends etc in the audience for the mix. Most people we know and trust their input. The best advice was from someone we met for the first time who gave great advice on the amp and mixer settings which really transformed our sound. We let him adjust the levels and eq in the second set and had great feedback which we have employed ever since. It can work but will depend on the band in question.
Sax blowing US president Bill Clinton is now in a Floyd Tribute band playing all the classic Dick Parry parts. Although during the break he likes to Have a Cigar with a local intern.
I like to watch any documentaries or recorded concert footage. The other day I saw Pulse live, the great gig in the sky box planner, and have recorded it. Later I will have a cigar and have high hopes of enjoying it.
Quality lyrics from Waters. Something David Gilmour with Poly Sampson never achieved after he left, but apparently they were not too bothered.
I thought the quote was 'upper sixth form'. Never heard of upper fifth.
Join the club. We were messed around big time by a landlord. We told him months ago he had double booked and he promised to move the other band. With less than a week to go he still hadn't and cancelled us instead with the lame excuse that the other bands fans were better behaved. This was based on a one off incident on new years eve when a friend of our drummer shows up and was kicked out for inappropriate behaviour. We had been playing the venue for years and almost all gigs were great. We immediately cancelled all our remaining gigs and have since got gigs with other pubs in the town.
Saw them some years ago at Torquay town hall. Mrs Mep is a huge fan and took me along. I would suggest standing at the side unless you like serious moshing. The Captain was walking through the crowd so keep an eye out for him. Enjoy the show.
We use a 250W active monitor which has it's own EQ. It is intened for FOH so needs a small purpose made wedge under it to point it up at us (no big deal). We are a 4 piece and TBH only 1 monitor is enough for the various stages we play on. We have vox and guitar coming through and our drummer can hear them both fine. Ours was and ex-demo, cost £150 and HAS plenty of headroom.
Hi. As you are a newbie and your first post is selling a bass you should check out the pinned threads for the market place so you are familiar with how this forum deals with such transactions, unless you have already.
Good luck & welcome.

I always find the dog barking at me quite off-putting...!

You were lucky to have the dog. Some years ago at a local pub we only had the fruit machine for company at the start of the gig, which the singer was playing whilst singing. Luckiy the place has picked up since then as we recently found out.
I too have comadered the cupboard under the stairs in our terrace house. It is completely rammed wirh my gear, the PA power amp and wireless mic case. Practice with my Tascam bass trainer and headphones.
Some years ago i was in a Stereophonics tribute band. It was a blast, playing songs off the first 3 albums and at some great gigs - especially the student scene.
What gets me is a request from the landlord or landloady AFTER the souncheck to turn it down. Which part of cound CHECK didn't they inderstand. When this happens we normally don't bother / pretend to tuen down or just make a very minimal effort. Not easy when not everything is through the PA.
