Well, I reckon you've found our man! Nice one!

Someone must now make contact and let him know about all the fuss!
Wateroftyne. Thanks for sticking the photos next to each other. Great job, I'm impresed and more convinced about our guy. If we made contact with him and he fessed up what are the chances he would join Basschat? Imagine his post in Introductions!, or would he even need one.

Basically speaking, I don't play basses with 5 strings, so 4 it is. +1 for Guy Pratt. Let's not bother with those, they're silly

Ok. This thread inspired me to get out my collection of Bassist magazines for another look. I have an extensive collection that includes our mystery bassist. I have read the article again and it's really strange how they don't mention a name. I have checked some others and he is not alone. So what do we know about him. He was based in Coventry and played in a 4 piece covers band called Teazzer (or was that a typo and it's Teazer?). He went pro in the late 70's to early 80's. This article is 16 years old and I would guess he was at least in his late 30's when the photo was taken, if he was pro 20 years before? So he must now be around mid 50's now. I can bet that hair didn't last long and he may have put on some weight. He may still or may not be wearing glasses, who knows. I had a quick search for bands called Teazer (Teazzer yielded no relevant results) and found a band based in Banbury - just south of Coventry. The bassist is called Andy andtheir web site is www.teazermusic.co.uk/index.html and his page states. I started to play bass when Rob and I used to play Beatles songs together when we were at school. This lead to us to forming our first band called TRAVELLER. I left TRAVELLER to join a Walsall-based band called FACE 2 FACE. I stayed with the band for 8 months during 1982 and then joined AMETHYST briefly as a Keyboard player and then later on Bass. I joined TEAZER MK I in 1986 and also played with ONE FOOT IN THE WARDROBE. During the break I joined Birmingham band FERRARI. I left to have children and play cricket before reforming TEAZER in 2000. Equipment list:

Dean Edge Q4 Bass guitar with Bartolini pick ups
Dean Rhapsody 8 string Bass Guitar
Washburn XB120 Fretless Bass guitar
Washburn XB2000 Bass guitar
Peavey Grind Bass
Trace Elliot 7215 300w 1 x 15 Bass Combo
Trace Elliot 4 x 10 Bass cabinet with horn
Boss Bass chorus pedal
Ernie ball super slinky bass strings
His band photo is So what do you think? Is this possibly him? At least I've had a go at unearthing him. Sure he looks different (so do I 16 years on). Does anyone know this band and can confront him about his past? If it's him he is still using Trace amplification and wearing a waistcoat! There is another band called Teazer based in Telford, but I don't think it's him though www.myspace.com/teazerrocks Anway. If that's not enough for you all to digest. I have another bassist for us to post over! From the July 97 issue it's My Bass is...A Rickenbacker 4003 At least he has a name - Rob Jones where are you?

Used to be in our set for a while, but has been dropped. It's a great tune with a great Duff bassline. As an exersice try playing the main verse riff without looking at the fretboard or even with your eyes shut. The song went down well in most venues and is quite well known. Gor for it.

Hi there Dave & welcome tk the forum. Good to see another stateside member. I work for a UK firm of architects that did some design work on the Sea Life aquarium & Lego Discovery Center at the Mall in Grapevine Mills. Never got a chance to go over there though.

Christ, I remember that issue & especially that article. Quite a Trace rig, but over the top for most gigs. We must find this guy. Thanks for posting. It's not me.

Rip a MP3 and use Audacity or a similar free programme.

If you have an octaver in your chain then place the compressor before it. Otherwise try out some options & see what works for you. Mine is first, then chorus then octaver.
If you want a plastic beer or milk crate, just ask a plasterer. They always seem to have a few in their vans.
Yep our guitarist is a plasterer and has a crate or two for such purposes.
There seems to be an attitude around that gilmour foisted sb out of the band. However it's just not the case. Gilmour was a good friend of syds and was asked to play the guitar parts to cover syd as he was increasingly unable to play consistently. As was mentioned before, syd withdrew himself from the band due to his increased drug use. He would show up and just be there. One day the band just didn't pick him up on their way to a gig. By this point he seemed to be more of a liability to them. They definitely seemed to be feeling very guilty, yet comfortable with the fortunes they all made without him in the band.
Comfortable (& guilty) enough to keep putting some of Syd's songs on various albums so he would continue to receive royalties. David Gilmour said they did this out of respect and were keen to look after him in the long run. This was the bet way to do it as they never kept any other contact with him due to his illness.

Is this worth anything? - Signed Duff McKagan bass
mep replied to chriswilliams666's topic in Bass Guitars
Let's see the photograph. Duff is cool, and so are his basslines. Good story. -
I wouldn't bother. With your travel & drinks costs will you break even? If you want to keep gigging and need the experience of playing a new venue then fine.

My Stingray. Job done.

I sometimes use both. My TE AH200 has active, & passive inputs like most amps. If I am going to use both at a gig & I will make sure the input gain is set for each bass so the TE lights on the front panel max out at the same point. A visual reference is great for this. Even with the different inputs there will need to be an adjustment for the different basses, usuallya couple of clicks will do it.

Recently our singer texted me at 1am to tell me the drummer had to change the practice night. I had gone to bed and the text alert woke me up, but luckily not Mrs Mep. I frantically texted him back telling him not to text so late. He was drunk and had just rememberd to let me know. I leave my phone on at night for the alarm.

Mine was a Marlin. I think it might have been the Sidewinder. Felt awful & played awful. A cheap plank of wood that kept me going after my beloved P-bass copy was stolen and before I got my Charvel.

My cabs are custom made and feature a 600w 15" Celestion speaker in the bass cab & a 12" Tannoy dual concentric speaker in the top cab. Together they run at 4 Ohms.

The surface just needs to be wiped down and it is ready to be used day one since everything is functioning. OK, thanks for the advice. Has three tuning knobs for the tuning of the sound pitch you desire. Not 4 knobs then? Very flat knobs aren't they! The neck has no metal bared frets requiring some precision when it comes to playing intricate grooves. For a guide it does have the major key marks featured on the side of it that is visible with just a glance and none of them are worn to effect the way you. OK, fretless then is it? I could go on..............

Great way to spend sunday morning. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for that 'Shell. I don't feel quite so creepy now for doing a similar thing with the Yolanda cover. Glad to hear from you Joel. I know you'll be buried under advice/tips but have you spotted the threads about the Charity Bass Relay? Started and led by Jim Ryan of this parish. It could make a great magazine feature, and help raise even more money for a worthy cause.

With the best will in the world, how many who would do it for that "rate" of pay that would have the command of English required? If they haven't, they might catch duplicated articles but we may still have howlers like using the word "of" instead of "have" which is very common on this forum. As in "I would of thought that was obvious". If the idea is just to make the mag better than it sometimes is now then that's no basis at all. You'd also have to decide how much of the mag was to be checked, how much is printed as-is on the responsibility of the writer etc etc. Break that amount of reading down into an hourly rate & it'd make minimum wage seem generous. If it's being done as a favour to the magazine as a matter of bassist's pride then IME favours have a habit of falling by the way-side. If Joel has access to all the people needed to produce a magazine at all, then he has access to people who can do it properly - with the right levels of concentration consistently applied. Brilliant idea! With a gig review of each band using it to follow it's progress - and give publicity to the band.
I agree, this would make for a great series of articles. Something different and fresh for the magazine. I feel a lot of people are getitng board of Bassically Speaking, perhaps this could take it's place for a while? For the record my subscription is still in place and will remain so. Keep working at it Joel.

I'm impressed with her all round ability. She can fingerstyle, pick & slap. Thanks for posting. Nice choice in bass.
