Elvis didn't die, "he just went home".
I thought he had "just left the building"

I have a spare kettle lead in my bag amongst many other items. We also have a big bag of various leads for the PA etc., although if we go to a venue where there is a PA provided at least this bag won't go and we would have to do with what's in our gig bags or spare house stuff.

I'll be recording the 1am repeat and the next programme too.

Covers bands "openers" what do you start with?
mep replied to witterth's topic in General Discussion
For what seems like years now we used to open with Cigs & Alcohol by Oasis. Our band line up is the same as yours. -
Anything by Pino with Paul Young.

We do a blasting version of Tainted Love and it's one of the best covers in our set!! We are a guitar based band with no keyboards in sight. We have based our version on the Prozac+ cover which you all need to check out. The guitar riff in the intro sets it off. It's not as gloomy as the Marylin Manson version either. Forget the original, except for emphasing the 2 beats before 'get away' & 'run away'. I play around with the bassline whuich uses triads and inversions. Use a pick as this song can rock out, honestly. We have recorded this for our CD which is almost ready. If it was I would make the mp3 available for you to listen to.

Radio 1 are coming to Torbay next month. I'll be giving them a miss, and will make sure I keep my windows shut so I don't hear Chris Moyles shoot his fat mouth off.

Tell him to sell them and buy a Pod or other multi-effects unit.

I shall look forward to checking out some of the video links in the comfort of my own home & set of cans on. I am a big fan of Hillage, Gong & Hawkwind. I can't believe no one has mentioned the epic Live Herald by Steve Hillage. One of my fav LP's of his.

Rush - Snakes & Arrows Live on Sky Arts Monday 10pm
mep replied to dave_bass5's topic in General Discussion
I have just finished watching my recording of it. I had to fast forward in the middle TBH as I didn't have time to watch it all. The sound seemed ok and you can really hear Geddy up in the mix. His tone was good. Unfortunately for Dave_bass5 there wasn't much gear to look at. Geddy kept his Jazz bass throughout the whole gig and his backline was hidden by 3 chicken rotisseries. The chicken costume wearing roadie coming out to brush some oil on the oven chickens during Spirit of The Radio was mildly amusing, more so for the band. I suppose it was an evolution of the washing machines they used to have some years ago! The Southpark Lil Rush piece as an intro to Tom Sawyer was more amusing, unlike the strange bit before the start with them in a caravan and Geedy doing a mad Scotsman! -
I'm in a competition on YouTube and I need your help!

Awesome. I'm too late to vote, but glad you won. Congratulations & enjoy the Sandberg, although the Yamaha sounds the nuts. -
I thought this was going to be a 'life, the universe and everything' kind of thread. What a gip! Still voted though.
Me too. I was about to come out with some mind expanding idea about 'life, the universe and everything', but can now only confirm that many years ago I started out on the recorder!

Are you bidding to pretend you can play bass?

School boy errors at gigs - my worst was last night
Don't know why, but that made me laugh!

It's because guitarists couldn't tune a frigging tuning fork. Anyway, why did mep let a guitarist tune his bass?? I wouldn't!
I was young and thought the guitarist was being helpful. It was the first & last time that I will let anyone tune up for me. -
School boy errors at gigs - my worst was last night
Two 'schoolboys' on the trot the other night: first song I use the drop-D, then forget that the second song needs it back to E...so after an embarrassing start to that one, when the song finishes, I stomp the mute to check tuning, the guitarist asks me something...and I forget to unmute for the start of song three. Rrrrrrrgggghhhh...doh.
Time to consider a Hipshot D Tunder? My worst Schoolboy errors; Forgot my strap for a TV appearance and had to use my belt. Forgot PA amp for a gig and had to drive back home to get it - 24 mile rond trip. Let a guitarist tune my bass, which was well out. We had to stop the first song, retune and start again. -
+ for the Series 6. I have a AH200 which does me fine. They are quite light as they do not have the timber surround and UV light. Although I have flightcased mine and added the UV light below so it weighs more, but looks great!
We do Twist & Shout...crowds always go crazy to it
We also do Twist & Shout and the crowd loves it and starts twisting away. Also in the set is I Saw Her Standing There. Both big crowd pleasers. Done a few other songs in my time.

My Gramma pad is on it's way as I'm getting fed up with some boomy stages at 2 venues, and so is the drummer who I share the stage with. Our guitarist always goes through the monitors as his amp sound will not fill up the stage, mostly because it is very directional and to one side. I can only hear it if i'm right infront of it, which is rare. I much prefer a good on stage sound so you can get into the music, and we can usually achieve that. The FOH sound is always good as well. Boosting the low mids has also sorted me out.
-
I've thought about one of these for a while now and have just orderd one from Dolphin Music. I playa couple of venues with a hollow stage and can't wait to try this out next time we are there.

Led zeppelin and black sabbath just dont do anything for me !
mep replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
We cover both bands in one go by starting Whole Lotta Love and after the 2nd chorus go into Paranoid, then back into the last part of Whole Lotta Love. We call in Whole Lotta Paranoid. I'm more into LZ than Sabbath, but it's probably down to listening to more LZ. BTW you spell Zeppelin wrong in your thread title -
That sub-sofa is mad!

Hi & welcome. A good move on your part getting into the bass. You have come to the right place. Good luck.
