Pre-shape

I have experimented with the pre-shape. But to be honest, although it sounds great at home on your own it, in a live situation I am not impressed with it. My graphic is set almost opposite with the low mids boosted, the lows and highs are fairly flat with the graphic slowly being reduced after the low mids. For me this has revolutionised my sound and it really cut's through the mix. Of course you my slap a bit more than I do and want the pre-shape?
2.
This 70s bassist used a 120W Orange valve amp and a WEM Starfinder cab, later replaced by an H|H 4X12 cab. I'm still kicking myself even today for selling that Orange amp. .
Me too.I even had the Orange 4 x 10 matching cab. I stupidly swapped it for a H&H combo because a valve had gone and it sounded gash. At the time I didn't know what the problem was. The H&H eventually blew up and I was left with nothing!!! I also had a WEM cabinet with a 15" speaker. It had the potential for 2 x 10 as well but I never bothered to fit any and eventually cut it down and recoverd it.
3. First got into them 30 years ago and have not looked back since. Still an inspiration today. Saw then live at Wembley Stadium, Knebworth & Docklands. All great gigs except for the bits I missed at Docklands cos I passed out. Look out for DSOTM on the classic album series that is still getting repeated.
4. I like to keep all my old tabs and notes for all the songs I have learnt and played. You never know when you might need them again and most people can't remember every song they have played.
5. Most tabs are rubbish, and I have looked at quite a few. Some suprise me though, but they are rare. I generally have a quick look for a tab when our band is going to do a new song to get the gist, but end up making my own notes or editing the copy I paste into word so I don't forget the notes at first. YouTube can be quite useful if no decent tab is out there and you can find someone playing a decent version. I must admit a cheap download of proper 100% accurate notation would be intersting. I have a load of song notations from various guitar and bass magazines that are worth buying the magazine for.
6. Another for the low mids. I used to experience the same problem. I reset all the eq sliders on my TE AH200 and by boosting the low mids I slice through the mix a treat.
7. 1. Air on a G string by Bach. The hamlet cigar advert music. It will sound fine with electric bass and a simple drum beat. A subtle pi55 take at the guitarist as it's his fault that you need to cover for him? 2. A wild freaked out slap bass solos with a funky drum beat. On second thoughts maybe 1 or none of the above!
8. Jesus, on 10 and not loud enough. You must have a serious problem. I rarely turn my AH200 above 1 1/2 and even then I'm quite often told I'm too loud!
9. I will always have the drunk guitarist with me if I am driving home. If I'm lucky there might also be one of our (drunk) groupies as well.
10. Headphones all the way in a terrace house. My bass sounds great through my practice amp and headphones. An aux input makes practicing along to songs a pleasurable experiencce.
11. Great performance. I'm more of Graham Norton viewer now, but thanks for posting.
12. I was suprised, and sorry to hear about the stolen gear. I hope you get it back. I liked the chorus - very catchy.
13.
Got it for £180 inc. a nice hard case. I've seen yours in the pointy thread. This one is very similar, but still has the Jackson passive pickups. Come to think of it, I've seen that 3B for-sale thread, too - I had a good look around Basschat for Charvel basses some time ago, after I got a white one from Skezza.
You grabbed a good bargain there, enjoy!
14. Wow, I have one of these which I bought new in 1987. They are awesome and are built like tanks. Mine does not look it's age and stil plays really well. The only thing that is letting it down is the bridge as some of the small screws that adjust the height are not easy to move anymore. It has served me well and has travelled quite a bit with me. At a recent gig a guitarist from a metal band our guitarist knows was very excited that I had the original Charvel model and not the later Jackson model. Mine always seems to get positive responses from musicians. What did you pay for yours? Check mine out in http://basschat.co.u...post__p__750253 http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__1211225 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/74654-charvelanyone-know-anything-about-them/page__view__findpost__p__728194
15. You have not said what model, wattage or speaker is in there. If it has the crappy Blue Marvel speaker or the slightly better Sheffied speaker then look for a Black Widow replacement as it will work just fine without having to check the matching of cab and speaker. I have done this for a TNT combo and it does make a difference as you could really drive it with Black Widow but the Blue Marvel was flapping really bad, even at below gig volumes in the end.
16. Have used plenty in my time. A TNT150 BW equipped with bi-amped bright box. A PA with PV Bass bins & tops & 2000w power amp. Our cuurent PA has the PV bins & tops. No Problem.
17. I have been on the lookout for a practice amp since the summer after moving house and no longer having a dedicated music room with my kit setup. My rig lives under the stairs and only comes out for gigs. I have not been desperate enough to buy a new one, but regularly scan the local paper. Tonight I saw one for £25, which I have bought. Is it practically new and is a PROformance 20 BA. The same amp can also be bought as a Stagg. It seems fine for my use and sounds ok with my active basses. The sound with headphones is really quite good. It also has a line input which is handy. One of our sons has started playing guitar and the other one plays drums and has a Trapps kit for the house. I could do with some jams with the 3 of us so this will help me get a sound at last. Has anyone any experience of these amps? I'm not going to complain for the price though. The online reviews are limited and varied
18.
Keep the Ray, ditch the song.
+1 I string mine with nickel roundwounds which helps a bit. It's a 2 band eq Ray & I have bass & treble up full and use a pick for quite a few songs.
19. Interesting thread. I've not come across one of these loops yet at a gig, but if I do I'll know how to deal with it.
20. This is all quite intersting. I use a pedal type compressor in my fx loop and it's the first in line. I also have an octaver and I have read elsewhere that you should have the octaver after the compressor. Mine is used to tweek the sound and tone and is always on.
21. They say there is one born every minute, but this is a first for eBay - well for us at least. Has anyone thought about asking him a question?
22. Our band also de-tunes by a semitone to help with vocals and guitar. I have no problem and 2 of my basses have a Hipshot and that is fine too. I usually leave 1 bass de-tuned for gigs and rehearsals and another tuned at concert pitch for practising. But it's easy to change if needed. The issue with the loud guitarist need sorting out. IME most loud guitarists are unlikely to turn down for anything. It will always be an issue so if you can't get them to do something immediately then look elsewhere.
23. Started on the recorder at primary school. Dabbled with a bit of violin (my dad plays) and the piano but didn't take either too far. Played the trumpet for 5 years whilst at secondary school. Gave up the trumpet and started on Bass 30 years ago and have not looked back. I have been messing around with the acoustic guitar for years too but have not really advanced for a while.
24. I have just watched 'Lemmy The Movie' on BBC4. There is a clip of him on stage where he is discussing his sound and technique. He jestfully plays some root / 5ths ala country style and then turns his Marshall amp (Murder One!) up and plays a bass line with incoporates strummed 2 string power chords. Now that was aggresive. Good film by the way.
25. All my bass stuff fits in the cupbord under the stairs and none of it is on show, except for a 6 string acoustic guitar in the dining room. For practicing I get a bass out and plug into my Tascam Bass Trainer.
