OK, so I whipped the strings off, undid the 3 screws, didn't lose the 4 springs under the pickup, carefully lifted the pickup cover off, and carefully tried pushing the A and D polepieces down with my fingers. They didn't move so I carefully laid the pickup in the routed hole in the body and pressed a polepiece with my thumb and in it went until it met the wood, thus finding the same level as the E and G polepieces. I repeated the process for the other 3, except I put a pick between my thumb and the polepiece so it wouldn't hurt so much, (me being a delicate 20 stone flower ). While the pickup was out I put some 2mm rubber strips between the pickup cover and the pickups to bring it up to the same level as the top of the polepieces, springs back in, screwed the pickup back down and strings back on. Took about 10 minutes to do. And it's completely fixed the problem, great string to string balance through both my amps and also into the board through headphones as well. So, a massive thank you to Funkgod and mep for the info, I owe you guys several beers! Edit: Forgot to mention I put the action of the G string back up and dropped the A and the D to where they should be, I previously had them set up to help compensate for the problem.
Well another satisfied Ray player. I'm pleased to hear it worked out for you. I couldn't believe how easy it was and what a difference it made. Funkgod really got it with that one! EBMM should sort out their design for the pups IMO and ship them with the poles flush. It really used to do my head in at times, not just the string difference but catching my fingers on the raised poles at times, which makes you lower the G string end. So it's not just in the eq as plenty of others have posted! This subject needs a pinned thread as it keeps coming up. What a lovely looking Ray you have there Fat Rich, and now is sounds the bollox! I's love to sink a few beers, but due to the distance involved between us I'm just pleased with your success.
Fair enough, maybe it's the bass and the amp!
You do have to look at the overall picture here. Not witstanding that there are issues with Stingray D & G strings for some basses. Mine was so bad live I almost gave up with some songs. In the end the combination of the pup poles being pushed (made an immediate difference) and totally changing the eq on my TE head so as to boost the low mids and ease off the bass and top end I was sorted. Now I get loads of compliments about my live sound and quite a few requests to turn down as I cut through the mix with such ease.

Certainly does!
you have to solder it ?
Check this posting by Funkgod http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry758098 Also boost your low mids. The next thing you know you'll be cutting through that mix like you wouldn't believe it!

Another Stingray D & G string complaint. I had that too and pushed the pole pieces in for these 2 strings and then raised the pup up that end and down for the other. Worked a treat. Search the fourm for this and other remedies.

What a guy! There is still 9 days to go. Let's see if anyone gets round to telling him.

A Stingray, you know you want to so just do it!

+1 for the Ashdown dual compressor. I use it all the time for gigs and it sound the nuts. I also use a Boss OC2 Octaver for a few songs and a cheapo Behringer Chorus for a few songs too. Plenty to choose from. You need to decide if you go the multi fx route of just get the pedals you want. Your style and set list will dictate somewhat.

Open E & A are ok. I'd rather fret the D & G as other have mentioned. Open notes are great if you need to do something else like drink, adjust something on the mixer which seems to be me or the drummer. I can also gesture with my hand like when we played Walking by Myself by Gary Moore (RIP) and the singer was bored so he changed the lyrics to the obvious, so I joined in with my left hand! His mum who was watching almost had a fit!

All new to me, thanks for putting it up.
That and the Taylor Swift concert on the BBC thread here...... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=129159
2 birds, one stone if you pardon the pun. I wonder what the view from behind her is on stage?

PM'd Although I see others are just listing the songs in a reply. Good luck sifting through all the songs!
Thanks Pete, will do BTW yourself and Doddy are looking rather fetching lately. Have you done something with your hair
Doddy's new avatar is in response to the hot chicks as avatars thread that is going strong at the moment

I used to stand stage left with the drummer and his snare to my right. In my latest band the guitarist likes to stand stage left so I'm on the other side. TBH it doesn't bother me at all. In fact I can see the guitarist fretboard better this way so I can sneek a peek to see what he is playing if I get a bit lost, but this itsn't all that usefull.

Had a weird one myself a few weeks ago. We played a regular venue that supplies a backline, drums, PA & sound guy. My back line was Trace head and 15" cab and I always get a good sound, I use a Trace head myself. Last time the head was getting a repair, and I had no warning of this. The replacement was a Laney combo that sounded sh*te. I plugged in the 15" Trace cab as an extension speaker but that wasn't much cop. We did a quick sound check, but when we came to play I hit my first note and thought the amp was off. I checked and it wasn't, but fumbling around I almost messed the intro. The monitor vocals were almost non existant. The sound guy was not around and the landlady was adjusting the sound whilst serving. The set did not go too well for me after that. The second set was better vocal wise, but like Pete I was on edge and just went on to fluff more bassslines for the whole night. It was commented on, but not in a nasty way as the the band are not like that. I was glad when it was over.

There are plenty of Oasis songs to choose from. Should be ok for some BBQ rock.

Definitely a can of worms. If you are not in it for the money then keep it simple and an equal split, after fuel for the driver(s) and other costs, although with the cost of fuel now there's not going to be much left. In our band our drummer takes the odd £5 or £10 extra as he owns the PA and van.

Finally got round to joining a decent forum!

Hi There & welcome. Quite an introduction you made there. I'm not GASing at the moment, but always appreciate a photograph of some tasty gear. -
How closely does your backup bass resemble your main player?
mep replied to ThomBassmonkey's topic in Bass Guitars
Main bass is my Stingray, so no problem there. I have taken a backup bass in the past, and these have been a P bass or my Charvel, although I have not had to use one for emergencies. The closet I got to a gig problem with my Ray was when the volume pot played up and cut out a bit in the souncheck. It got me through the gig and I quickly replaced it. I have only broken 1 string mid set in 30 years of playing. I sometimes take my fretless out for a few songs, but if I don't then I'm out with just my Ray. I have an old set of strings just in case. I'm sure the others could keep the crowd going if I had to replace a string. So I guess I'm another yes and no. -
Yet another Dunlop 1mm black nylon user here. Tried other but these really cut it for me. I hold mine the other way round and use the rounder end on the strings! Anyone else tried it that way?

Glad you have found us at last. Welcome aboard. Let's see all that gear, we are all waiting.
-
Glad to hear how well it went. We are soon to be adding Go Your Own Way to our set. I can only bet that it is a good crowd pleaser? Never done any Fleetwood Mac covers before live. I'm sure we have all jammed out The Chain, but that doesn't count. Keep up the good work. If you get to gig in the Torbay I'd like to come and see you. As you are on Lemonrock (just checked) then I can check out your dates from there.
Thank you! Dunno how I missed that!
No problem, glad you found it. It always pays to do a search before posting. Hopefully you will find what you are looking for, if not a new post will definately get you there!
