1. Extend your lead. I use a extension piece that has two female ends so you plug 2 leads together. Then walk right out into the audiance area to hear what you sound like, not your drummer who plays a bit of bass. It would be like you playing his drums for him to listen to - it won't work. You should get a suprise as to how you sound. You have not said what your bass is while you are GASing for a Ray. Ok, I have one it and it's the nuts and always sounds good out front with me playing it. Only then can you make an informed decision.
2. Do a search as this has cropped up a few times and there are extensive thread on the issue. For the moment I can't find any. I had the same issue and resolved it by pushing the pup poles in so they were flush for the d & g sting which enabled the pup to be raised under those strings so you don't catch yoyur fingers on them. Adjusting your eq helps a bit. Mine sings a treat now but it used to annoy me each gig. Alternatively go post a thread on the EB forum and watch the backlash!
3.
Sorry, I rose to the bait and couldn't resist Slow day at work!
If anyone starts a thread called Show us your tuner just leave it ok!
4. Cool, and I bet you weren't even GASing before. Enjoy & keep us posted.
5. A bit of Gaffa tape folded over so it's double sided stuck on your bass, then stick the pick to this.
6. + 1 to all the comments. Once you have sorted out your D & G string issue boos the low mids a bit, take it easy on the bass and it should cut through. It worked for me and I always have a puncy tone that everyone can hear!

Hi

Glad you jumped on board. Enjoy the forum.
8.
Am I the only one who looks at that bass (the one on ebay) and thinks "penguin"? It just needs some eyes and a beak ....
Quite a temptingly priced bass. I would change the pickguard for a black one, but then the white pup would look odd!
9. That's crazy money. I paid less than a tenner for a new volume pot for my Stingray from Strings & Things and that included postage!
10. Katie Perry & her songs do it for me. Nice subtle bit of slapped bass, we as subtle as you can be whilst slapping!
11. Hi from your neighbour in Devon. Enjoy the forum.
12. I read somewhere that his basslines are like piano basslines. As he also plays the piano you can see where het gets that left hand rhythm thing from. He also does top BV's as well.
13.
OK...this is where I admit to the true extent of my geekery on Pino. If you're a spotify user, get involved with my Pino playlist: http://open.spotify.com/user/owen_liam/pla...3HUz9u2joumbZ2Z Feel free to add or contest as you see fit! As far as I'm aware, Pino played on everyone of these tracks, from Sugababes to Manu Katche, Gary Numan to Daniel Bedingfield! My fave at the moment though are his contributions to Roy Hargrove's Hard Groove. Awesome playing!
Cool. I've subscribed following the previous BassChat playlist set up by dagooey. Can't wait to start listening to some smooth Pino grooves.
14. You don't say what model of bass you have, but you need to research and get the correct Hipshot. The Bass Centre web site has them all and tells you what basses they fit. Look there to see what you need and then try to find a cheaper one. http://www.basscentre.com/hipshot-d-tuners.html I have them on 2 of my basses and they are fantastic. You can quickly flip to low D during a song if you need as well. I bought my 1st one years ago from the Bass Centre when they were much cheaper, now they are more expensive new. Good luck and go for it, you'll never look back. There are some top tips here for looking after them as well.
15. I've done some teaching in my time, so count me in. Always glad to help.
16. Good stuff. Liked a lot about the song. Great bass sound. The Orange rig was the star. Good luck and keep it up.
17. I'll admit to getting a bit bored of the original. This version is fantastic, what a line up, what a sound, what an ending! Loving Marcus holding the bottom end.
18.
LOL I thought that but wasn't that fussed to go back and check each time he came up! See above. As WoT says it was probably recorded live earlier in the day/whenever and they were playing along to a backing track. However, if it were genuinely meant to be live you could not have had JT fretting a note whilst taking his plucking hand to tune whilst at the same time hearing a continued pulsing of notes (unless as I suggested earlier he was hammering on which you can't see him doing and there is usually a difference in tone when this happens). Not that any of it matters because JT was doing it for whatever reason he felt appropriate. Maybe it was his subliminal way of saying 'I realise the guitarist has no strings so is indicating his contempt for the prerecorded format and this is my way of thumbing my nose at the fact we aren't playing live'... just my thoughts.
I too think it was recorded earlier. When he reaches over to tune up there is no change to his sound and he is not making any obvious effort to hammer on. The guitar with no strings is odd and only adds to the mystery. On the whole I quite liked the song, and JT is a great bass player.
19.
Interesting (the plug-in gizmo). I've never seen anything like that before, though I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy one. Someone knocking over your bass while walking around a stage is bad enough but the possibility of also damaging your amp at the same time is too much to risk, for me.
I must admit I use mine as a backup and not everytime. They only support the neck so the bass could still fall if you are not careful. Best not used near the public or on a small stage. Generally I use a single stand that is stored in our drummers hard case as it's his. I have one of those stands that holds 4 guitars and don't always bring it to a gig unless I've got my fretless with me. Sometimes our drummer forgets the stand and I have to get my C-Stand out and it gets me by. If the worst happened and it snapped you'll only be left with the plastic leg stuck in the amp which should be easy enough to get out. I've been luck and careful over the years and have not had any accidents. To be honest I would get the Markbass Basskeeper, a more modern ans secure version of a small stand. 20. Hi There. Enjoy the forum. Most of us are partial to a bit of black, me included, so get some good shots and post them in the black bassses thread in the gear porn section.
21. You mean one of these? I bought mine years ago in Hong Kong and haven't seen once since. It's great and I use mine quite a lot. And before you ask it's not for sale! Good luck finding one!
22. Err yeah! The first bass I played had cheap and nasty sunburst finish and the second was a Gibson copy with varnished wood. The wood grain gave it away both times. Also I was not daft enough to think they were made of plastic. No offence. Maybe you bought one of those plastic toy guitars that played themselves or whatever they did? BTW how old were you at the time, what bass was it & when did you realise it was made of wood?
23.
Here's a new game for this thread. You post an ebay listing, and other readers have to spot the wildly inaccurate "fact" mentioned in the listing. I'll start: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/bass-guitar-westone-...=item3a62ad3d64
The bass in the first picture has 4 srings where as the bass in the second picture has 3 strings as mentioned in the listing. Jazz, I don't think so.
24.
At least you don't have a foreskin like a Blue Whale. That would be a major drawback...
Well he's no Dork that's for sure! Back to topic, we play 2 sets of 12 to 14 songs each that last around 50 to 55 minutes. It used to be 2 sets of 12 songs but it's difficult deciding which ones to leave out as we keep learning new ones!
