Soap Bars can also be used on either a 4 or 5 string bass asa most of them are quite long. At least that's the case with the Seymour Duncan Basslines fitted to my Aria Pro 2 SB600 fretless. Very organic sound.

Had a quick scan...looking to find foolproof bass setup guide
mep replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
Issue 50 of Bass Guitar Magazine has full in depth set-up gude that is very good. I photocopy it for all my students. http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/index.ph...id=417:issue-50 -
Tasty. I read the review about them in Bass Guitar Magazine and they sound great. Good to hear a review from a BC member. Rock on, Funk on or 'whatever you want' on by the sounds of it.

Bloody Hell..... When did Fender change their headstock shape?
mep replied to tazza1's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Neck is made of maple, so can be described validly as a maple neck. Rosewood is the fretboard, as he specifies.
Oops, I missed that later part of the description. Best go to Specsavers! -

Jazz style maple bolt on neck? Looks more like rosewood to me. I don't think the person is trying to pass off a real Fender as they refer to a Fender style headstock and labeled with Fender decal. Although they look an arse as they obviously don't know what a real Fender headstock is, or the correct wood for the neck is Now where is that bottle! -

When Matt joimed the band he didn't want to be a front man. Guess that's why Dom does most of the talking on stage including the goodbyes. -
This may help (bearing in mind XB26354's alterations to my chords) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...n+the+raindrops
Good link to a great chart. I've still got the chart one from a very old guitar mag that is 100%

3 in total, and it took years before the first. First was a backing singer who was seeing the drummer. We were all expats and he had to go back to the UK after his contract expired, so we got it together for a while. When he came back she dumped him and we finished our fling. Second was on a rebound who I knew and used to come to the bar I played in. She was interested in my fingerwork! Third was how I met my wife. She was a friend of the singer's wife and friends. She had seen my picture in the local paper and came to a gig. Edit. Lasy night at a gig a father & son told me they came in because they heard my bass!

Sounds interesting. I'm sure it would look good in my music room. Keep us posted. I picked a card whilst at the Mansons guitar show last October. It features a 6 string guitar, but as you can see that is not the main focus. For a while it appeared on our set lists, which are loving typed up, sometimes feature an image and are laminated by our singer - at least he's useful for something.

Definately a classic album. I used to have it on tape years ago, but all I've got now is the track Walk Between The Raindrops featuring Will Lee. I had to learn this track when I was at the Bass Institute and have since taught it to some of my students when I feel they need something a bit more challenging. In fact today I was going through it with my latest student (a 40 year old female who still hasn't signed up to Bass Chat!). We started looking at the track a few weeks ago and unfortunatley it was one of those lesson where she took all of the hour just (about) to catch up to where she was last time. Hoepfully next lesson we'll get through the solo and D section. Now, I may have to get hold of this album again.
I am seeing Muse live this September and am looking forward to it! I personally think some of the tunes from their new album are their best. I've never seen a Status live so I can't comment
If you are seeing them at Wembley Stadium then you won't be able to comment on the bass sound, or much else for that matter. Appaling acoustics compared to the original stadium. I saw the Foo Fighters there and was very disapointed with the sound. The support bands shouldn't of bothered even turning up. Other than that it was great. -
A chance to see John Paul Jones bumpage!!!!

Great band. Saw them last year in Edinburgh and it was a fantastic show. Seeing JPJ is only the icing on an otherwise awesome cake of pure rock! Someone's gotta snap these up!
I saw them at Plymouth Pavillions. Crap sound but good gig. Don't forget you also get the chance to see Dave Grohl's truly awesome drumming. Double Bumpage!! -
I also noticed that on the desk the PEAL L and PEAK R lights kept flashing red when we kicked into a song, what does that mean? Also am I right in thinking if there are 4 inputs going into the mixer, each one takes up 100watts each? So essentially the vocals only have 100watts to work with. We will be playing a lot of pub/club gigs 100+ people. Do you guys think this is enough power?
If it's peaking then you may need to trim the individual input gains (if you have any). But it's not up to the job for the whole band, especially bass. You need at least 1K (more if you can) for a whole band and some decent bass bins. The 100watts each idea is not correct. It sounds like this rig would make a good monitor setup!

There sems to be a shortage of bass players willing to get involved with bands down my way in SE Devon.
Just a pity 'bout 'the pipe'!....................

Personally, I think Muse are a great band. Also, as stated previously, what's the deal with "the pipe". Is this the Jack Hargreaves influence - HOW!!!???

They need to smoke more weed.
May be Chris was puffing away during the set on some Glasto Grass! Seriously though I didn't get the pipe and thought he looked a dick. I'm a non-smoker and think most people who smoke look like dicks anyway (IMO) - but a pipe!!

I've just watched it again in HD but through my stereo to get a better sound than through the tele late at night. The mix was ok for a festival and the BBC. Yeah, a bit bass light but still powerfull sound and full of energy. The blew all the other Glasto band off the stage. What an inspired song choice doing The Streets Have no Name was with The Edge. That really fitted into the set. I think the guys did well and I particulary liked all the live endings to the songs. Muse still rock big style.

Recommendations for fretless strings? I'm a fretless virgin!
mep replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
I'd also consider giving nickel roundwounds a go if I were you - roundwound sound but kinder to your fingerboard than steels. If you want that classic fretless "mwah" sound you need to use roundwounds.
I've got Nickel roundwounds on my Aria Pro 2 SB600 and they feel & sound great. The Rotosound RB45's are pretty cheap, so even if you decide they are not to your liking you haven't lost out too much. -
We all arrive in the van and keep a good flow going so there is always someone keeping an eye on the van & someone in the venue. Some good points have been raised in this thread that are worth remembering. The only time I had some stuff nicked was from our flat. Our flat mte took us dowm the local pub to celebrate getting aj ob and when we cam back the back door had been kicked in and my bass and my mates guitars and pedal were taken. No luck with the cops. We suspected our flat mate of being in on it as the thieves were some well known local speedfreaks that he knew, but we couldn't prove anything. It took me ages to get another decent bass after that. Of course I was young and didn't have contents insurance. Another time our Duo set up in a pub, soundchecked and went back home. We came back to the pub and our guitars weren't there. The landlord had secured them behind the bar and told us we were luck no to have had them nicked. When we started our set I noticed our monitors didn't work as some joker had pulled out a cable!

Hi Sam. Welcome to the forum. Get some gigs under your belt and I think then you can take those L plates of and call yoursefl a bass player. Being in a band and playing live is one of the best thing about holding down the bottom end.
If you're really keen on 'Rays try out the Sterling by Musicman Ray34, they're really amazing for the dosh and I prefer mine to my old US 'Ray. However, pretty good 2nd hand deals can be had on Stingrays too for not too much more cash thatn a new Ray34.
Me and a fellow bass player (we both own a Stingray) tried the Ray 34 at the Mansons guitar show and were really impressed. We could not tell where they saved the money. If you want new try one out. Otherwise find a good 2nd hand deal.

Hi There. After posting questions you should post some photos. What about starting a thread called basses on boats? There's one for basses in gardens going cos of the summer. I assume you don't have much of a garden?
