1. Does all this apply on second hand goods? The import on a $750 bass is £19, but the VAT £110. Do we pay VAT on importing 2nd hand things?
 2. Woohoo, looks like you landed on your feet there, Marcus, very envious. Beautiful finish and nice and early, stunning. Next we want to see gigging pics!
 3. Thanks for the comments, guys, beginning to think I should pull the ad!
 4.
Here are mine. I`ve developed a little bit of a fetish for valve amps over the last few years. We eat alot of smart price beans at my house.
Ooh, how I'd like one of these, (the Ampeg B15, don't know why the pic didn't come out.)
 5. Hornchurch here, a Hartke HA5000, just come and pick it up if you need it.
 6.
This thread has got me going. I'm looking to start a band from scratch but I fear I won't be able to because I'm punctual and organised. For example, I attempted to meet up with a singer for coffee recently. After waiting for an hour, I left. We tried twice more and she was late each time. "I don't do late", I said and I was told off for being inflexible and unrealistic when dealing with musicians. I might as well give up forming a band right now then.
I think with a group of people they are all going to be different. I have a germanic keyboard player who is absolutely punctual, needs to know parking facilities at every gig beforehand and finds flexibility difficult. The drummer is doing well to be less than an hour late to anything but blames everyone else for any time lost. Singers, always 20-30 mins late. They all wind each other up! I'm not sure what annoys me most, the hour lost to the drummer or the barrage of detailed questions about arrangements months away. I think the hour lost.
 7.
because there's loads of people out there who are totally incapable of organising anything, every band needs someone who tries to anticipate problems before they happen, in other words a nurse maid, perhaps that ought to be in the OP's list as well
Yup. Although if the OP is looking to start the band, it will be him for the forseeable future. I call them 'Bingo' players. You can't practice playing bingo, you can't get good at ticking off numbers and so there is no preparation required. Some people treat their bands like this, just turn up and then think about it. If everyone in the band does the same, its fine. Its fabulously frustrating if you're used to preparing. All learning, practicing, preparing is done at home, the rehearsal is just to bring it all together playing it as a band. Unless, as someone has pointed out, you are preparing original material, but then its not really a rehearsal then, more a creative time. But even then having your stuff and other thoughts prepared is necessary. I'm getting old, I know, but I don't have the patience to hang around waiting for people to work stuff out for themselves.
 8.
That's a 2005. Z5xxxxxx serial number = 2005.
Hi fretmeister, fair enough but these things are never accurate. Click on a pic and find the neck pocket pics, here's one:
 9.
Is this hypothetical, or has this actually happened?
Did to me. An old mate was the drummer in a function band, had a brass section and three singers, they needed a bass player, sounded great. The brass and singers existed but didn't do rehearsals. They gave me about 30 songs to learn in a month, I did, well 28 of them, mostly familiar stuff. First rehearsal they then produced another list and asked, one by one, if I knew the songs. We then went through some of them and that was that. Next rehearsal, out came their list again, 'what shall we do?' Went through a few. Then turned out they may have a gig in a several months time. Each rehearsal was costing me a tenner plus petrol, I'd get £100 if we did the gig. hmm. They were nice fellas and I liked to meet up with my old mate so I suggested we made an hour set list from their long list and concentrated on those. 'Good idea' they said. After one more aimless rehearsal my mate, the drummer, left for a gigging band! I made my excuses. What was odd was that they could play pretty well, the keys was particularly good and with good bvs too.
 10. Yep, know what you mean, jury's out for me on cream pup covers too, but, tbh, black covers cost virtually nothing on the 'Bay. However, I've grown to quite like it being a little different. I wonder how many sales Dimarzio lost because they were cream.
 11. Here is my Fender Jazz. The bass is virtually unmarked and is beautiful, everything a sunburst Jazz should be. It plays very nicely with a low action, no issues at all, I think it's had an easy life so far! Its got the 60th Anniversary tag on the headstock, but its not a 60th Anniversary special. it has a John East J-Retro preamp which gives an amazing set of available sounds. Just switch it off to go to standard Jazz. It also has Dimarzio pups and sounds absolutely amazing. The bass was bought with a preamp and the battery compartment and side jack installed by a luthier (I was given the receipt for this it cost over £200 to have done but, at the moment at least, can't turn it up). I wasn't over happy with the preamp and so installed an East J-Retro. This is pretty amazing, very powerful, particularly as there are two batteries and so uses the 18V option. If this is deemed to be too powerful simply take out a battery and the preamp operates on 9V. It needs to be heard really, so come and try it out. I have the original control panel that came with it, it has stacked knobs. Not sure about that, did Fender reissue a Jazz with those..anyone? Anyway it means the preamp is reversible, simply swap it back to the passive electronics if you wanted to. Can't imagine why, but you never know. Not sure what else to say, if you're looking at this ad you'll know about Jazz basses and the legendary John East preamps. Original Fender hard case and case candy all comes with. Bit of a reluctant sale, but it doesn't get used as I'm pretty set into my Stingray, I'm sure someone can give it the use it deserves. I'm in Hornchurch, Essex, by all means come by for a try out. I'm sure you'll be impressed. Times are hard and it's priced accordingly. I'd consider a US G&L 4 string in a trade. Just click on a picture and dig about in the Photobucket, there are plenty more, included neck pocket etc.
 12.
Awesome song and video, especially like the guitar melodies and vocal harmonies. Good luck
+1, good work!
 13.
although im going for the rosewood/ tortoise version as these are parts i already had
I'm sure I've got a black plate on a spare body, swap plates if you want?
 14. I know I have stage presence as on the rare occasion I see a clip of a band with me in, I just look at me.
 15. Do we not like this bass because it is different to standard?

Does the awkwardness of the juxtaposition of an old style headstock with a later style body make it look thrown together?
Are the odd, Musicmaster looking pups clearly a down grade on the much copied split pups?
The fact that there are pups and not pup should this not happen on a P?
Does a smarmy looking cast bridge instead of the bbot goes against it's utilitarian reputation?
And, to cap in all, a knob where a jack socket should be is this just too sophisticated for a simple bass?
What's actually wrong? If it's because it doesn't grace our eyes as expected then surely Fender have already won us over. We're criticising them for a product that differs from, well, their product. If we consider Fender's more commonly met design to be sacrosanct enough to rant about any variation then I feel we are lost to them.
 16. Jaydee pups, Jaydee body, Jaydee neck, Jaydee preamp, Jaydee bridge and anchors? Oh, and Newtone strings.
 17.
Rig from gig last Friday (poor quality picture aside) 2x Barefaced Compacts Rack : Crown Drivecore XLS1500 Sansamp RBI Rocktron Blue Thunder (in effects loops of RBI) Korg DTR-2000 tuner Line 6 XD-V75 wireless Rolls Midibuddy pedal Vigier passion IV bass Shuker custom jazz (not shown) Sounded rather good and you can never have enough headroom !
I'm guessing your gig was in Leicester, and the audience in Glasgow?
 18. There's only one way to find out if it's reasonable or not, put the ad up, Telebass, let's all see what happens. If you get some reasonable replies this could change the nature of ads forever.
 19. I think this is the way forward, 15W guitar amp and a bass player with a 500W Markbass and BF cab, can see where this is going and like it!
 20.
One thing re "modded" bass that has always surprised me with Fender is that they( Fender) don't make a model with what must be one of the all time classic mods to a P bass, they don't have a Precision with a Jazz neck and an added Jazz pickup (all passive) with a top mounted jack socket in their range.
Bastards.
 21. Hadn't noticed how sharp the corners were before. Interesting about the 'capped' maple fingerboard, Fender, MM and G&L do that on all their maple fingerboards now. MM and G&L using the same piece of wood to try to mask the joint with matching grain. Surely there must be someone still around from then who could answer some of the questions of this thread?
 22.
My p bass used to be an original 62 , but I upgraded it all with superior products made 30 years later, it's now a 62ri, can I sell it for £6k
Probably not, but at least you have something useful rather than what some would regard as a museum piece stuck in your wardrobe, relegated to 'possession'. The 'some' would regard that as rather detrimental to a bass that was so old, and they probably have a case, but what if it was a 2002, or even 2012 that you had modified to be as you want it? When Entwistle put the extra jack socket in his rare slab Precision should we all throw our hands up in horror? When Jaco took the frets out of his Jazz was he really defaecating on sacred wood? These are mass produced items of low cost materials being punched out by the tens of thousands every year.
 23. The neck on mine, an ebony now-fretted-fretless was made two day before yours, mine came to me from Berlin too. Have a bump for one of the best basses made.
 24. I get a short solo in two bands, one has punters asking for slap (its in Play That Funky Music) and so up goes the treble control on the 'Ray, the other is an original piece with a Stanley Clarkesque type break, up goes the mid control. That's it, volume stays the same.
