1.
By insisting that sellers stick to a rrp, they expose sellers to EU competition price fixing rules, remember the vw £18 million fine ? They may have decided that they want freedom to sell at what price they want
Well, I was thinking it might be that way round too, Fender taking their ball home as DV didn't wanted to play by their rules.
 2.
Fairly skilled woodwork there. Chosen for tone.
Materials for acoustic instruments usually are.
 3. Thought this might be of interest. Its mostly about how Leo Fender played around to get the sounds he was after in his designs. You'll notice his concerns were about pickup design and positioning, the piece of wood they were mounted on is, well, a piece of wood. If he mounted that little lot on a different piece of wood, do you think Fenders, MM and G&Ls would sound different? http://youtu.be/o1uba8foudk
 4.
Home practice rig: Echolette B200 + some 70's Kustom 1x15" cab. Nice retro-set.
3 knobs, perfect. The amp I use is called a 'Streamliner' as its supposed to be a stripped down type with a strength in simplicity, but has 3 knobs for volume alone.
 5. Glad not to have any Prince albums.
 6. I'm in that camp too, we all used to muck about with our goods a lot more years ago, there's a cloud of originality over almost everything now, seems the world has become frightened of possible collectors of possible future collectables, or resale values at least. It's my bass, I want to use in the way I want to, if something needs to change to do that, well, why not? If I lose a few quid in the resale, again, so what, I want the bass to do as I want and that's worth a few quid. The neck on Stingray is chunky, I want it nice and slim like a Pre-EB. Don't want to splash out over a grand for a Pre-EB so I'm having mine shaved by HarleyHeath of Ruach basses. Really looking forward to the result. Might affect the resale price, I don't know but it will make it more valuable to me. As far as I'm concerned I'm the only one that matters with my basses, they are there to serve me.
 7. Not working very well in the pic, forgot to plug any of them in!
 8. No, not heard of him, have now. Just watched several of the Youtube clips, amazing talent and range of skills and, as you say, with humour. Always sad when someone dies, my shame to have not had the pleasure of hearing him. A loss.
 9. There's only one valve, they're not expensive and the worst that can happen is that you've bought a spare valve. If your tech reckons that's the problem give it a try, if it's not he'll have to try something else. If the effects loop is after the preamp then this is the best place for your gate isn't it, so it can gate out noise made be the preamp. It could have no effect on it if before. However, I honestly don't think there's much point filtering out faults, where would it stop with a dying amp and a rack full of effects? They are good amps, worth getting it fixed, if you can't they aren't expensive on the 2nd hand market, get another. (I've got an ad for an HA5000 on here somewhere!) Probably cost as much as a noise gate.
 10.
Thanks for the feedback and the compliments! It's really appreciated. I'm playing around London in a few bands of various styles quite a lot so I'm definitely getting myself out there, which is really fun. Trust me, 5th fret and below is definitely my favourite place to be.. haha. Some of the moving up the neck rather than staying in position was a conscious decision just because of the tone I wanted to get. So I was pretty aware of what I was doing and why!
Yep, totally understand! Keep it up.
 11. Horrible isn't it, as soon as there are any rumours a company is ditched. I remember a building contractor who were doing well, won a nice big job went to their bank for a loan to carry out the business, perfectly normal. Tut the bank refused them for some reason or other. It somehow got out that they had been refused a loan, it was assumed they were in trouble and had all their current contracts cancelled in case they couldn't complete them. They went under and yet were in a happy position to grow. I hope something similar doesn't happen to DV.
 12.
Is it only now a matter of time before I do recognise them when they serve me in McDonald's..?
Being so hard working they could serve 34 major burger orders in a year.
 13. Going along the Sister Sledge route, here's a vlog thing of my band recording, you may need to skip along to get to the bass bits but Thinking of You features in the first half and at the end. http://youtu.be/5xu1ELjNxmw
 14.
Actually recorded this in January, but only got around to finishing the edit last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSEe1pASd_Q&feature=youtu.be
] Very clever and doesn't sound contrived, and the reverse stuff at the end, I like it. I'm also going to go away and copy that harmonic intro for sound check showing off!
 15.
Here's my latest bass video! Kind of a bit so-so about it. I don't feel a proud as I did my last one but I don't think I did badly... haha!
I think you've got great feel, love the little passing and grace notes. Hope you're in a good band and not keeping all this to yourself. If I had any comment, and it's only a personal thing, I reckon almost all this could all played in the first position, going up strings rather than up the fret board. Anything above the fifth fret isn't for real men! Much better than I am anyway, and I'd probably been playing for 10 years before you were born!
 16. Band you’ve never heard of to stop making music you never listen to A band you wouldn’t recognise if they served in you McDonald’s is going to stop making songs you wouldn’t listen to if they paid you. JLS announced the split to stunned journalists who were pretty sure they’d disbanded some time in 2011. 17.
Her facial expressions reminded me of Charlie:
How on earth did you remember that?
 18.
I thought she played well but I kept expecting this to happen:
Very funny, but reminded me why I never bother with those sorts of films.
 19.
Just thought I'd make sure we've all seen this version...
Brilliant! Actually I thought she was great, I love to see people getting into their playing. I miss Norman so much!
 20.
I was just about to say that ya bugger! Drummer has the best view in rock!
I remember this, see the smile on the drummer (in shorts and socks), click next (no pun intended!) to see his view albeit after they turned round at the end of the gig!) http://www.myspace.com/vamborool/photos/23022949#%7B%22ImageId%22%3A22985500%7D
 21.
Sounds like standard pentatonic licks. Probably several licks stuck together and pro tooled. I have to say, I never got what was so great about Price. There are thousands of multi instrumentalists. He's best at guitar and it's mostly ripped off Hendrix . Don't love his songs or his singing. But he sure knows how to sell it.
Me neither. Can only think of one song, 1999, never hear others being played. (I thought you said, 'sure knows how to spell it'!)
 22.
Seriously disappointed at the context in which the word "slap" is used in this thread. This should go in the "Off Topic" forum where I can talk about my chronic masturbation problem.
What's chronic, the problem or your masturbation?
 23. For me there's a minimum point beyond which I would insist on my own. If its half ok I'd be ok too, I quite like playing through different gear. But finding that minimum can be tricky. At a showcase there was a Behringer 115 combo, sounded like it should be ok, but absolutely wasn't. On a gig, a Peavey keyboard combo was provided and viewed with suspicion but actually sounded great. I'm also in a Christian band and sometimes we play in churches who are proud to let us know they have a drum kit and amps, we don't need to bring our own gear to complicate things. Having been bitten a couple of times we now insist on using our own. Got one of these next week, a couple of other bands who will all share whatever is there, and us being difficult.
 24.
....ive not used them on a fretted but have seen them used on fretteds - im guessing that the frets will win out over time and knacker the strings?
No sign of wear so far, been on 18 months or more (funnily enough I was noticing wear on sound round wounds last night, bit of rubbing from frets).
 25. Made no adjustments to my bass to accommodate the Trubass strings, just put them on and away I went. I've tried them with foam under them at the bridge, I thought it sounded great but a couple of audience members thought strongly enough otherwise to tell me I sounded stodgy. Took out the foam and all was apparently restored.
