Genz Benz Streamliner Owners - A daft question...
4 Strings replied to amnesia's topic in Amps and Cabs
Try the Streamliner with a Midget. A rather popular combination. -
Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.
Look I`m really desparate to sell this bass but I can`t be arsed getting a decent camera and taking some nice photo`s of the bass so you can at least see what your £1500 is actually buying. But if there is any intrest, I will take some photo`s
AAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMME -
The most over-rated band in history Very influential etc but I have never actually listened to 90% of their stuff. Not hostile, just never went there.
If you only ever listened to 10% of their stuff how can you know if they're overrated or not?

What 3 Bands Did You USED to Think Were Great?
4 Strings replied to Lowender's topic in General Discussion
I'm another who still likes the bands I used to. I've had the pleasure of adding plenty more. I certainly agree with the overrating of many of the (mostly metal) bands that others have mentioned, but then I've never really got hold of metal in a favourable way. I remember upsetting a guitarist once by not recognising a G&R track he had blaring out and commenting that if that band was playing in a pub I'd be in the bar. -

So, um, how uh does it weigh? -
Makes no difference to anything on the bass. Got hip shots on two basses, both work fine, certainly won't be causing any problems to the neck. There are so many different strings on the market with widely different tensions that detuning a semi-tone will be small fry. If things change at all just adjust the truss rod to compensate, but I doubt even that will be necessary. (I know Rics made a truss rod modification to allow more reliable use of roundwounds back in the day, but they're a bit odd anyway!)

I noticed some have a 'Music' type app where you can put your music on your FB page. Whenever I try that it makes me use the band page as me and so anything I do goes on my page, nit the band page. How did you all it?

Great idea, have enjoyed seeing some great work by the bands represented here! Here's mine, got a vid and some tracks in there too: https://www.facebook.com/EchoMusicUK
+1, or none of this ever happened
Haha! We need a pic of the OP and the seller shaking hands, both grinning into the camera as the bass is handed over with Johngh standing behind them with his arms embracing both, smiling in a fatherly way. Then we know it all happened! -
I wind the e string end in as much as possible as to use it as a thumb rest then put the g end slightly raised towards the strings in comparison and fine tune the balance across all the strings in a band setting,I have taken a bass with a legendary weak g to actually having too much output compared to the lower strings and then back to balanced. Get the e end set in as deep as possible first ime
This is exactly it. It's usual to put the pups as close to the strings as possible for maximum output but, for some reason on MMs - maybe the very strong magnets - too close reduces output. Many, in trying to get a better output from the 'G' quite reasonably wind the 'G' end up closer to the strings, but closer than the peak distance and so actually make matters worse. (The next step is then to form an opinion and give the basses a reputation for a weak 'G'!) Trial and error is the only way but knowing that a healthy gap between the string and magnet is required helps. -
Thanks! actually I do the opposite, which is getting the "treble" side of the pickup close as possible to the G string. I´m going to try with a bigger gap as you say and then I let you know. thanks for the tip!
Probably still end up with it closer than the 'E' side but just the whole thing further away. -

The weak 'G' is a common criticism of Stingrays with no real explanation. From my experience I found the magnets are very strong and caused a sort of phaser sort of effect on the tone and needed to be a generous distance from the string. I found that winding the pup down quite a bit further than I would expect allowed an even balance across the strings and the 'problem' went away. The pups are so strong enough that you still get a healthy output even with this gap. On the later pups you can actually push the magnets up and down within pup windings, so you can lift the 'G' a little bit if you think its appropriate. Be careful to support the windings etc properly if you elect to do this. This is my experience. -
And when you are talking about a set of strings generally the thicker strings are lower tension than the thinner ones. In a standard 4-string set the G string will have a higher tension than the E.
Really? I thought that was the whole point of a 'balanced set'.
I bought a new Fender Precision in 1976. It was factory fitted with Fender flats (no alliteration intended).
Why not , it's brilliant, trying to think how it could be incorporated into a song! Better than 'recently replaced by Roto rounds'.
He's sent me and the OP a message to say he's sending the bass, so it should be resolved quickly. The guy is going through a bit of a tough time it would seem. We also now have his address as well. I agree with Hutton. Sh*t happens to all of us, so maybe he should be cut a little bit of slack, as it is out of character going by previous feedback.
Often a reason why someone is selling a bass, not always a good one. -
I understood it was Entwistle who brought roundwounds to the fore and the Swing Bass strings were the result of his consultation with James How of Rotosound. The rounds vs flats is not a competition of preference, in my opinion, more horses for courses. Playing old soul and Motown, for example, is going to sound modern and hifi with rounds, slapping, for the most obvious example, is not going to work well with flats. For me, it flats for the Motown P, Newtones on the 'Ray for everything else as I can zing away by turning up the treble and thud away with it turned down. Won't do the Motown like the flats on the P though.

Cello. I love the instrument. Never made an opportunity to learnt to play one but the tone I find so attractive. I love cello concertos, I love the shudder of the air caused by it's timbre and, size-wise, they are similar to the bass so perhaps there's an affinity.

I agree, he's providing a service as far as I can see, taking a risk on gear from ebay and passing to interested members here. I think one of the great things about buying from anyone on here is that there is opportunity for people who know a bit to ask questions. About incorrect details on an old bass, spotting a poor neck joint, strings out of line etc. Its not the easiest place to advertise. Can't be too many incorrectly described basses sold on here. A lively for sale section is a good thing for the list, many on here are interested in gear and browse. Too by from someone on the list and straight away sell on for more I do not think is in the spirit of the list where we're all friends looking out for others who are like minded. We're not to comment on prices but I would feel happier for someone to pm a message that confirm someone is aware they are underselling than simply grab it and run. -

It IS 3eq No, 4 Strings didn't buy it, he already has a black one with a maple neck. He'd like to have this one too but couldn't justify it and so is really wasting our time by making any comment at all on this thread. -
