1. Have a bump on me, as a fellow Ruach owner, for the undoubtable quality of Heath's work.
2. Bought a G&L L1000 from Gareth, straightforward, friendly and honest, recommended. <edit> - Nov 20th - Just a quick note to say how much I'm enjoying the L1000. I'm using it as first bass, great player, great sound.
3. We just played festival in Bedfordshire. We needed to use our dep keys player, he charges £150. That's the deal, nothing to do with him what we get paid. As it turned out we got paid £250 but the organisers at the end so it was easy to pay him, otherwise, it was our choice to do the gig, knowing we'd need to stump up £150 from band funds.
4. Looking at the neck, Frank, is it quarter sawn? Looks like the grain is 'vertical'
5.
I'll post up the full rig once up but this Retro Six Ten has just arrived so will be using it with my 400w Laney Nexus Tube. Should be putting it through its paces Monday night at rehearsal
Very nice indeed! How do you find the Nexus?
6. The £12500 is almost nothing to do with how 'good' the bass is, it's more to do with it becoming a 'collectable'. The thorn in the side of affluent society. It could easily be argued that equivalent new basses are almost all better than the old ones. More stable necks, better production and quality control etc. Rather like cars, which are much better designs, better made and last way longer than the old ones, but how nice to see a Morris 1000 or a DB5 driving along!
7. No idea why hasn't this already gone too at this price! I have a near identical bass (except '76) and it's lovely in every way.
8. Been away from Basschat a while, too busy playing bass! Thought I'd return with a contribution. Here's a short snippet (nicked from a longer compilation) from Kingstock festival last summer. https://youtu.be/8b3IVPGK9a0
9. Been to one couple of years ago. I understand it was £600 and required at least 20 people present. He was great, lots of songs and stories, plenty of shredding on his acoustic and he hung around for ages afterwards with a drink and chatting.
10. We play Motown and soul in and around London/Essex and wider afield. Celebrated our 100th gig last year, album selling well, two more planned and 30 odd bookings already in for 2015. Mostly secular gigs but some Christian gigs too (you don't have to be a Christian yourself). We looking for a keyboard player to provide keys, strings and brass parts to well known Motown, soul and funk songs. Can either cover for certain dates or be in the 'first team', whatever you can do. Fronted by 3 girls plus guitar, bass, drums, sax Rehearsals in East London. All gigs cover expenses, some will be paid. Fancy it, or know anyone who does?
11. Still holding or released?
12. Regular gigs, chose a Genz Streamliner 900 and a BF Midget T, never wanted anything else. (Also bought a BF Compact, but not had cause to use it). I can only think of a Super Midget to make me happier.
13.

Very groovy
14. Hear, hear, to that, but great you've found a solution to enable you to carry on! Beautiful bass, bargain price.
15. Great fun! Mine was a stage block happening, got a little enthusiastic and they spread beneath me, you know the 'overcentre' thing, the more I struggle to try and bring them together the further apart they go until I had to give up and disappear (only up to my waist) into the hole, not dropping a beat! Got back up while some people pushed it all back together again and carried on playing to people pointing and giggling and I'm thinking 'yes, very funny but it's over now' until I realised the stretching had pulled my flies wide apart and what was hanging out wasn't supposed to be part of the show (fortunately I had clean on underneath!). Such was my commitment I waited until the end of the song.
16.
I haven't gigged as a bassist yet, so nothing on that front, although back when I was a guitarist my amp cut out completely at a part of the song where all the instruments were supposed to drop out and leave the guitar playing a neat accompaniment to the singer. Cue me playing and kicking my amp, and hoping for the best. It came back on about three seconds after my part stopped. That was my first ever gig, too. On my fourth gig, the strap lock broke on my Strat. My mate was taking his first live guitar solo when his amp fell off the beer crates it was stacked on. But nothing tops Guthrie Govan, who developed a faulty lead/jack situation during a gig and used a hairband just over the nut, and played the whole gig on left-hand strength alone because he used his right hand to hold his lead in place....
I love watching Guthrie (and his brother) and, being a tad flash, no doubt took a little pleasure in coping with that burden! (I'm sure another response would be that 'John Suhr doesn't make the jack sockets'!)
17.
The never ending quest for tone, headroom, reliability and happiness has finally brought me here... All the work of craftsmen: Gartone '68 Superbass 100w clone in a Zilla replica head, into 2 2x12 Zilla's. All 'Marshallisation' by myself (for aesthetic effect).
Looks great, but isn't the Marshallisation like putting Nissan badges on a Jag?
18.
I have this Sterling Ray34CAFL on order. It should be in on Oct. 30th.
That'll do!
19. If the 20th anniversary versions have bling, then they're not for me. I love the utility of a Stingray and it's brutish qualities. Gold plating, fancy tops, binding or any other sort of niceness seems to detract.
20. I listened to a radio programme on Gerry Rafferty a while back and he said that line was originally for guitar. Someone had the idea for it to be sax and, perhaps because Raphael played it so beautifully (timing is excellent!), it stuck. It's certainly the stand out of that track and has made it the most famous of Rafferty's work.
21.
Thank you! Ordered!
Must have had the last one!
22.
IMHO As builder i tap every piece of wood before buying( tuning fork is really useful too!) you have to spend some time listening the different resonance between each blank. The best sounding is the one i take to my workshop. Pickups are a big part of the instrument but not the most important.
Then why to these spoof Teles, with bodies of concrete, plastic, steel etc sound like Teles?
23. 4 Strings

SOLD
It is indeed.
Unbelievable.
24. The Classics sound great, and if all Pre-EBs were used up then they would be ideal. Not sure why a one piece neck seems better, but I like that, shame they didn't keep that feature (with the rear mounted truss rod and skunk stripe). But, I do prefer the 'unfinished' neck for feel and playing to the old varnished finish and I think this has been a progressive step. Nothing wrong with the varnish, just prefer the slick, woody feel (for my Ruach custom, where more than a nod is made to Stingrays, the unfinished neck being one). I ought to try a Classic, you're right but, tbh, I'd like to get through a few G&Ls as well. I envy those old, '80s era G&Ls. Love the brutal simplicity of them.
