Probably took up bass, that looked easy too.

Marketing Ploys ... Do you fall for them?
4 Strings replied to BassPimp66's topic in General Discussion
ok, True Bypass thicky here. If you add a simple switch in the signal path of a bass how does this change anything? There are pickup switches on some guitars/basses, they don't cause any trouble. I can understand how sending the signal round an electronic circuit may effect the pickups differently to bypassing the electronic circuit but if the bypass simply sends the signal straight through to the pedal output I can't understand why that's wrong. Do active/passive switches cause this? Single syllables please. -

I think it's better to relate the positives about our shops while we still have them. Elsewhere there's a thread about useless customers, its these that make some shop owners seem impatient to us. I suppose it might be inevitable but I'll regret the day we lose our music shops. Not sure how some survive as it is faced with the internet (especially the Amazon gadget which will show you the cheapest on line price from the shop barcode). -
....and if the guy couldn't spend 20 minutes with me, I wasn't going to spend a lot of money with him.
Tricky isn't it, as buying online you're bound to get a few minutes out of the warehouse boy. " ...it's NEVER worth being an arse with people." This is the key and, unfortunately, people are often given one chance and if they come across as one that's it. -

I'm sure there are fewer tales of incompetence from ordering on-line as you don't actually have to del with any humans, just tick the box yourself. However, please lets not think those who work in the warehouses putting labels on packages know any more about musical gear than our shop assistants, they just don't need to. -

Local drum shop in Hornchurch, now called SoundAttak run by Gary who, over the past 5 years or so, knows me and my drumming lad, ALWAYS the best service, Always gets what we want, will price match, will also pull apart and oil and adjust and fix and find spares needed, often for nothing and offers coffee and chat if we need to wait. Will buy from him always, he's an enthusiast, an excellent and busy drummer and knows stuff. Local PMT, wanted some lemon oil for an unfinished MM neck, had 'Lemoil' I asked if it was actually lemon oil, he researched online, told me it was and then, unprompted, 'phoned MM suppliers to see if they recommended it for their necks, which they did - all for a £5 sale. They also have an excellent amp repairs service (albeit slow) who find odd missing knobs and other bits as necessary as well as fixing and guaranteeing the actual fault. DV247 up the road a bit further, well, these are on-line people really, will knock money off if you ask and are more than helpful if you want to try out some of their valuable stock and are always friendly and helpful (and, of course curried dollops of favour by hosting Victor Wooten a little while back!). Me, I go to shops whenever I can and continue to enjoy excellent service for which I'm happy to pay a little extra if needed. However, I know they're not a charity and I've just bought a pair of straplocks from ebay for a fiver instead of £17 or so for a proper set of Schallers from a shop. They won't be as good, I know, but I've spent a bit too much recently! -
What's all this 'I don't mind people using picks' and 'I'm OK with people using picks' and 'Sure, use a pick if you like'? I'm not asking anyone for permission! I don't give two SHlTS who thinks it's OK or not for me to use a pick! And that's swearing. Get laminated, you perverted fingery freaks! I'll do what I damn well like!!
I'm ok with you you doing that, if you like, I really don't mind. -

Question needs more info. I understood it wasn't just the diameter of the speaker but how far they can move in and out. Double the couple of mill they move by a couple more mill and you have the equivalent of two speakers. Also my turn for this bit: -
I do have one bass I'm a bit precious about - my '91 Thumb, because in 1990/91 I really wanted a Thumb. I do love it still, and I'm not so precious that I don't gig it, but I would have to think long and hard before selling it. I have one other bass guitar - a Squier Jazz which I keep because I like to have a bass strung with flats. And two double basses: One indestructible laminate for street busking, and a carved bass for when I need something that sounds good. I do still get a hankering for a 5-string sometimes. I think eventually I'll buckle and buy a Yamaha BB1025x, but I'm resisting quite well so far.
....and so the rot begins! Leave BC, while you can, it may be too late for some of us but you're young, you know can do it!
something I realised today. Sat in uni library at lunch flicking through the NME for the first time in years.... and lots of guitars and basses there. But unlike years back where folk would have some old strat that they modded themselves... it all seemed to be stock guitars. I wonder if we've just become more used to going out and buying another bass or a different bass than just modding/fixing/refreting the one we have?
We're all terrified of making any sort of change to our instruments nowadays. Not sure why, I don't think its only tied up resale value. We seem to think the wood used for a guitar has been somehow blessed by the angel Fender and is now sacred. Even down to a pickguard screw. Guitars are cheaper but we're more materialistic.
Someone should start a new thread - 'Owning Multiple Rooms...' Should be a nice, lively debate - IBTL!
Didn't the Govt come up with some odd plan for people with more rooms than they needed? Perhaps for every bass over two we'll be asked to share/hire with a bassless person.

woops, mousemat is better than the bog roll I used. Not sure prescribed distances are anything more than a starting point. You know if you have a 'quiet' or 'hot' string, adjust accordingly, its what the adjustment is for. The magnets aren't so strong as to choke the string (like an MM pup will if too close), the G goes as close as your playing style will allow, then back the thicker strings off to get an even response. You'll get there, they all work. Don't be limited by a bit of sponge, even genuine, sacred and untouchable Fender sponge!

Not sure about only two being made, there's a pic or two of these in an old book I have, pretty sure its that fish looking grey burst West Indian beach finish. Pretty sure there's 1 and 2 pup options too. This one looks pale and the one with Keef is a redder colour, so there's three. I'll have a look at the book when I can .
Sorry, didn't mean to make you feel bad - I think we've all felt the "basschat effect". When I first joined I went through a little phase of bass acquisition / swapping, but I'm all better now and back down to the one old faithful.
Trouble is, like everyone else, they all had their reasons.

Jaydee was my bass for >25 years now unused. Sad.
Did some recording, only half the tracks used as they said the bass was too thin, needed body. Shunning the thought that it was actually my playing I reacted and bought the most powerful bass I could find, a '79 Stingray which I love, justified as first bass for >25years.
Now this is where the Basschatitus kicks in as I hadn't previously thought of the Jaydee as anything precious, it was just my bass, but I now think of it as a handmade, solid mahogany instrument of some vintage. Can't practice/rehearse with such treasures so I bought a bitsa P to knock about with. This is now a half finished Fenderbird.
At an auction I found a '76 P for a bargain price. Its beautiful and has now funded itself and the next bass by performing perfectly with flats with the Motown Sisters.
To knock about and for a foreign gig I bought a US Jazz Deluxe, couldn't buy a MIM could I, not now due to BC I know there's some sort of perceived difference? Didn't get on with it, put up for swap for another Stingray but of less value than the '79.
No takers so bought a US Standard Jazz and the Deluxe put up for sale only. Well, in the end I thought it pointless having two Stingrays anyway.
Someone eventually offered the Stingray swap so the Deluxe has gone. I now have two black/black/maple Stingrays and a superfluous Jazz. Its all gone wrong!
Trouble is, I can't just be bold and get rid as my two lads (one a bass player and one a drummer) have their eye on certain inheritance items.

You're probably right as the pocket would need to be the same rounded shape or the intonation would be a problem (saddles right on the ends of the screws assuming the curve makes the neck a fraction longer). Certainly the scratch plate isn't sympathetic -
it's nice your bass teacher recommends it..... but what for? Does your band need it? It seems to me to be throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist.
Yeah, this really. Have a look at the little video by John East about his preamps. Great bass player, makes the 'before' sound great to my ears. If you really think its worthwhile having the 'after' then go for it. You get the choice of the original sound (preamp 'off') if you want it still, some say something is 'lost' with a preamp which I can understand, but just switch it off.

Maybe positioned a little better. Also, I may be wrong in my limited experience in this, but the amount of grain showing on the neck wood is more than usual for a MM neck (and older Fender necks for that matter) which is normally more homogeneous -
