This is probably the only community where most of us are watching the video muttering 'FFS Martha move over a bit'
Actually, not realised how pretty she is before (always just listened for the bassline - yes I think I am part of this community!)
It's the risk you take when you order something that isn't available yet IMHO
I've already ordered the 1000W stereo version with colour option handle. STILL no news!
Only a slightly serious note, I've tried some timbertone picks and they were actually great. Unfortunately I shredded them far too quickly
Are you insinuating the other posts aren't properly serious?

For what its worth, I got a message (after my badgering) that the Class D Bass500 has hit a bit of a hitch and will be delayed a couple more weeks. More fidgetty. I know its not been THAT long, but how long do I go before I just get a Mibass?
-
Is it one piece of toneplastic or is it a ply? I know the ply is lighter but no resonance. No resonance at all.

Yes, thanks Phil. I recommend reading both Phil's response AND the wiki explanation to try to make it sink in. I hate it when people brag about their Class A amp being better than a mere B, let alone a crappy Class D - but my skin deep understanding won't allow be to explain why that's wrong!

Trubass nylon tape wound (you only need to buy those once) for the Motown P and Swing Bass (or the much cheaper substitutes by Strings Direct) for everything else.

Thanks so much, always love to catch a rare glimpse of our hero in action. If you want another there's this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PycKSdKG_74&feature=fvwrel Any others?

No. I think you make an interesting point about your Sei bass. Even if the wood had an audible effect with so many layers and sandwiches they would surely have been all but cancelled out, just as sandwich necks reduce 'dead spots'. Doesn't this sort of construction render the wood to aesthetic purposes only?

Depressing things your bandmates say.

'Let's just do our own version'. -
Funny how its the more expensive and nicer looking woods sound better.

Sounds like a combination. Frontman needs to learn to cover more and guitarist should need tuning less and tune quicker. Both need a kick - harder one for the guitarist though.
Small world. I had to stuff that bloody green blazer in my Adidas bag for the first couple of years. It definitely wasn't the thing to wear on White City Estate!
Ha, Christopher Wren, like a West Ham supporter in Millwall!
Former pupils at my school included Andy Fraser, Glen Matlock and Mikey 'Culture Club' Craig. Also former Brentford manager and professional swearer Wally Downes.
You must have gone to the same school (well, now part of a hospital) as me, Mike Craig was in my Technical Drawing class. There were others too, Glyn Leach was on bass on an album, Ian Mercer played bass on a professional album for a hit making singer - I'll think of her name in a minute.... And there's you and I! Clearly green blazers made good bass players.

How easily replaceable are you for your band?
4 Strings replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Yes, was replaced in a jiffy by a younger, sprightly and altogether more appropriate bass player in a very noisy, american style rock band. No, the Motown band is my kiddie, the singers go out more without the band than with, but when the fees there so are we, however its my organisation etc. No, Gospel band is again my drive and organisation. Yes, church band needs an other bass player for the rota - any offers? Regarding those I lead, its a sign of a good leader where he can step down and other(s) stand in the breach. I wonder ... -
Its certainly a characteristic time. I nearly always have others in the car so no lone reflection. Years ago it would be in one the many band vans we went through. All barely legal, rusty, faulty and crammed with gear and people. Got stopped more than once by the police and while we're sitting on eggshells aware of the faulty bits on the van the police were only interested in finding drugs. No problem there and were always sent on our way. Not a time for quiet solace in my experience I'm afraid. Maybe if I was a session player.
My band have a gig on Friday and initially the promoters communication was very poor until he needed a drum kit. As he hadn't been as forthcoming with us, we declined. He has now asked if we can bring a "bass amp" what a cheeky b*****d i thought. So I remembered this thread sent an email back and basically said I can bring my amp no problem, but its for my use only and the other bands would need to bring there own. I'm sure we are on first so why should I wait round after our set while other more established bands use our gear piss poor I think. Needless to say the promoter is yet to reply.
Its usually the last band on who has to share most gear. There's no point just saying 'no' to the promoter, he's just trying to put on a gig so you can play. Its not a bad thing to share your gear, most gigs is necessary. Just have to avoid the sort of situation of the OP. Organise things before hand and be respectful to others and their gear.

Don't forget, Linus27, it was JB's guitar playing that your cleverly worked original post declared your love!

Do lamposts figure heavily in your life?

I'm really happy to listen to you guys who know him better then I (ie not at all). While I still couldn't see me wanting to buy an album of music written for three basses I would love to have had your experiences.
-
Yes, I agree with it all too, no pedals etc in my house - this is a lovely back slapping thread isn't it? However ...! There are some cracking musicians out there performing and creating great music which you just wouldn't have heard years ago. Things have developed and moved on and we owe it to those legends who pushed boundaries in their day to allow today's musicians to build upon what's now available.
Yeah, part of me feels that way. But then the generous side of me takes over and it is the reason I kept hold of my old Peavey/Laney set up. Also, fortunately the drummer, lives around the corner from the pub and, knows the pub manager pretty well so we can leave the amps and cabs in a safe room. He'll then collect everything and bring it back to us the next day. Of course if the 2 touring bands turn up in a massive van I'll not be best pleased.
This is all fair comment. Sometimes the organiser will be trying to make life as easy as possible for himself so if you agree to take the stuff he doesn't have to phone round the other bands. Only share what you're happy to, the other bands need to take a turn too. Pantherairsoft is not in a position to share his amp, so someone else will have to supply an amp. I think the comments regarding pre-arrangement and courtesy are apt, nobody should be turning up to a gig expecting to just plug and play. If you do and are as disrespectful as the '3 String Wonder' in the OP you will quickly gain a reputation and end up with all jack sockets closed - a possibly the deserved punch up the throat!
-
I'm always cool with the bass cab, as long as people are polite enough to ask in advance and treat it with respect. You are right if no one ever wanted to share gear then gig logistics would be a nightmare. There are limits though. The main reason my amp is off limits to others is that it's a 1400w PA power amp which has be tuned by computer to the gain structure of my slightly unique effects set up. Clipping an amp at 1400w is not good for my cab and as I can't just flick a switch and it be tuned perfectly for the input gain of other bassists I don't allow the risk. Our drummer is in a similar position. His kit is a hybrid. 3 snares. No Toms. No kick (a floor tom on a side mount). The entire kit is tuned up so it sits well above the bass. Other drummers don't want to play it... And we sound a bit naff if we use another ('regular') kit, as we have invested an awful lot of time and money in creating a sound. Basically if we play a show we need to do a full back line swap with exception of bass cab. We are a 2-piece though so that balances it out ;-)
I'd love to hear this!

Hmm genius. Different to the definition, if you accept it, as applied to Jamerson but probably more apt here if you take away 'influence' from its definition. That hipshot stuff, almost like those amazing abilities from sufferers of autism, beyond what you would expect from a mind (how could he possibly keep up with it all those tuning adjustments and make music at the same time). I suppose its a little geeky for my clumsy tastes to enjoy. To me, it's like using just three tubes of paint to knock colours up on the fly while creating a beautifully shaded picture at the speed of Rolf Harris, or those people who use spray paints and pieces of plastic and card. The painting becomes amazing because that's how he did it, even if few would like it for its own sake. I wonder if he made lines with his toy cars as a toddler.
