just offering this up to see if anyone wuld be intersted?? I bought it a while ago and at the time i bought ot it had already been resprayed black by a previous owner (some pics in my thread in the repairs etc section). the paint job wasnt bad but not brilliant, anyhow i lived with it. the bass plays great, all original in all other aspects (pups, preamp, bridge etc) Anyhow, i decided to strip the black and see what was underneath... As it turns out it looks like the black was sprayed directly over the original finish, which turns out to be a nice trnslucent green colour (the 'washburn status' logo even remaining intact!! Ive totally removed the black now both front and back, yes its not perfect, yes theres some sanding lines visible but i;m sure with just allittle more time/patience it would look great (although it does look fine as it is now) anyhow, all things considered I was hoping for £300? Ok so decided I can get along without these so offering them up: First up is a jazz bass body (no idea of the make) sunbirst finish. Its SOLID WOOD with a nice grain to it but ive no idea which wood it is!? Its in very good shape. comes with generic pickups (again no idea of the make they were installed when i go the body but hey sound canny!) bridge, and upgraded control plate - courtesy of Kiogon) the neck thats on it at the minute is the one i'm alos selling - squier CV P neck. This body has had a scratchplate mounted on it at some point as theres screw holes, however at the minute it doesnt have one so its very 'jaco' in appearance! the neck pup route is only 'slightly' larger than the pup itself so it can be left without the scratchplate if desired! Second is a MINT squier CV Pbass neck. Absolutely immaculate (I took it off a CV P i bought new) absolutely no issues at all with it and comes complete with machine heads. Will upload pics when i get a chance later tonight at home Prices wise, £80 each plus a fiver towards postage

Progress so far: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:105670] -
God this a few months ago after reading great reviews about them and out of curiosity really! Its an aspiration elite model, finished in ash body with zebrano top and matching headstock. Its in MINT condition, ive only played it a handful of times. The quality of this is fantastic, hard to imagine at the price TBH the eq is excellent and very versatile and the neck nice and fast/slim. Currently strung with a set of flats ('cos thats all i ever use) Only really looking to part with it as ive others atht i tend to favour when gigging so this doesnt get a look in! Ideally i'd prefer collection but courier could be sorted out for about £20 £450 [attachment=105693:IMGP0040.JPG][attachment=105694:IMGP0041.JPG][attachment=105695:IMGP0042.JPG][attachment=105696:IMGP0043.JPG][attachment=105697:IMGP0045.JPG][attachment=105698:IMGP0046.JPG]

well after a few more hours work, used nitro mors - carefully!!! and sanding to reveal the original finish in all its glory!!!... still got a bit of work to do I need to take care of the black centre section as you can see in the pics, theres black paint and primer still to remove but i got bored!!! will leave that for another day. Very pleased with how its turned out, think i'll leave it as matt finish and just wax/buff it a few more times! thought I'd move the original post i put in the repairs etc section to here! Basically, I bought a washburn status recently that had been resprayed black! not a erfect job but presentable nevertheless. Anyhow when i got it I could see some 'green' through the worn parts of the black finish in places so i thought... 'I wonder if the original green finish lies beneath?' Anyhow after a little investigation it appeared that it might be intact underneath! before: [attachment=105539:IMGP0018.JPG] after a little investigation: [attachment=105540:IMGP0011.JPG] A little further sanding: [attachment=105541:IMGP0013.JPG] after a few hours work: [attachment=105543:IMGP0021.JPG][attachment=105544:IMGP0026.JPG] Obviously the gloss laquer has been lost due to the sanding/refinish so i'm left with a 'flat matt' finish at the minute. Still got a LOT of work to do and aint lookin forward to doing the front but I reckon it'll be worth it in the end!!

paint on top of original finish removal
mojobass replied to mojobass's topic in Repairs and Technical
thanks for the tips guys, i did a little more sanding and pleasantly surprised to see what 'lies beneath'!! the oroginal lacquer hasn't survived so the bit ive done is 'flat' but i like the matt finish on basses anyhow (well mostly) ive given it a little rub over with some warwick was and its come up nice enough! just need to spend quite a bit more time on the rest of the body now!! although it has to be said i'm not looking forwad to doing the front!! I may find a 'reason' why it was re-painted!! [attachment=105449:IMGP0021.JPG]
