Sire v7 5 string, in a gorgeous sunburst. This is the ash and maple version, and really is a lovely looking bass. I'm sure you'll know what a good reputation these have; it really is the best Jazz I've ever had, and one of the cheapest! Absolutely brilliant 18v preamp (and I'm not usually a fan of actives), which can be combined with the passive tone. A note on this - I've replaced the tone cap with a standard .047uF rather than the .022uF which came as stock. This gives the tone knob a lot more range. Although this isn't the lightest bass I've had, it doesn't come close to my old 70's Fender P (which was a plain silly 14lbs). This is just over 10.5lbs according to my bathroom scales. However, I will include a Neotech Comfort Strap with the sale (these are £38 delivered at Bass Direct). The strap really makes it seem half the weight as it distributes it so well on the shoulder. The bass is in fantastic condition, and comes with a gigbag. So why am I selling? As much as I'd like to keep this, my band has folded and I really don't have any need of a 5 string - I'm mainly playing guitar at home these days, so have my Yamaha for the odd bass jam. Plus I could do with the money! Speaking of which, I'm looking for £360 ono collected from Nottingham. I may well be able to meet up half way, and I also travel a lot with work, so please PM me. However at the moment I have no box for a courier - if I manage to acquire one, I will update the listing. Here we have a bass which I (truly) thought I'd never sell. This really is an utterly wonderful playing and sounding instrument, but I'm extremely lucky to be able to say that I've now found a Precision (type) bass that is better. I never really thought it would happen, and I've thought long and hard about selling this bass as I love it, but it's now not being played. Dating from 2004-2005, this bass has led an interesting, mod-based life. When I bought it, it had EMGs installed (the battery box is still in place). I'm not a massive fan of these, so I swapped them out for a set of Wizard Trad pups; this restored a lovely vintage tone. After this (about 18 months ago), one of the tuners developed a rattle, so I fitted a Hipshot D-tuner. The bass sounds great and plays incredibly well; it is set up with a nice low action, and it has the thin vintage frets which have been installed very well - it is definitely some of the tidiest fretwork I've seen on a Fender bass. The neck isn't too wide and deep either; it's not Jazz thin, but definitely not the wide vintage Precision profile either - more of a modern P profile which is really comfy. Weight is about 9lbs. The condition is pretty good, but there are a few knocks and scratches, and a couple of screwholes where a bridge cover has been fitted. It's currently fitted with TI flats, but I can set it up with a set of Slinkys for no extra cost. Looking for £450 collected from Nottingham, or I can courier in the UK for £465.
they all sound like 'dunk dunka dump dunk dump dump'
And what a lovely tone that is.

I always love the sound of a Stingray. But when I play one, I just find them too unruly; far too much presence in the mix.

Seriously, maplin? Maybe I'm too much of a snob!

Thanks for the replies guys, good to know I wasn't completely off the track! Hadn't thought about the plastic cabinet with bass though; I guess it could create lots of vibration!

Just an idea I've had (which might be a terrible one), but I wondered if there are any negatives in using a powered PA speaker as a rig? I'm enjoying a pretty clean, crisp sound at the moment, so could it be a good idea to pair one with a preamp? I'd then have stage sound and DI covered. I know there might be some styles that really need an amp, but I'm mainly only playing jazz, folk and a bit of blues these days, so I thought it could work well, be a light carry, and lower in cost. I heard one of these and thought the low end was pretty good, and the specs aren't bad at all. http://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts212 Am I missing something?

Richard bought my fretless Ibanez, and I couldn't have hoped for a smoother transaction. Great guy to deal with!

Here we have a Trace Twin Valve combo, which I bought from VTypeV4 a few months back. It's an absolute stonker of an amp, but I'm a weakling with a bad back, and it's just too heavy for me to be carting about. (It's about 30kg... Like I said, weakling!) It's a 100 watt, 15" combo, and sounds absolutely glorious. On top of that, it's in excellent condition, apart from a few marks on the top grille. Don't be put off by the modest rating; this thing is loud. Easily loud enough to use as monitoring if you're going through FOH, and with another cab it will cover pretty much any gig. In my opinion, it would cover any gig on it's own, but I don't play rock. The sale will include a Trace Elliot cover, although this has really seen better days, a speaker cable I made to connect an extra cab (this has the strange Trace XLR speaker output), and a spare pair of power valves. With his permission, I've used some of Mark's original pictures and a link to his post regarding this beauty. Looking for £290, preferably collection only - I don't have packaging for it, and it is quite heavy. Tradewise I'd be interested lightweight combos / amp & cabs. I'm based in Nottingham, but will be in Bristol early next week, and will be in East Anglia next weekend. Happy to meet halfway too, within reason.
