Classic 50's P - New 'Used' Bass Day From BC!
guybrush threepwood replied to spongebob's topic in Bass Guitars
I used to have one of these in the same colour, really nice p bass! Good work with the chrome. -
I wouldn't be so sure. For example, compare Warwick's new prices against some of the prices you see them sell for in the marketplace... I've always found that no bass holds it's value too well unless it has Fender or Gibson on the headstock.
A sunburst jap precision bass had me going all Motown, couldn't stop playing it. Guybrush threepwood has it now I believe
Indeed I do! It's probably my favourite bass ever.
I bet they sound pretty meaty together as well
The sound is old school; tweeters off in the cabs, TI flats on the P-bass. Absolutely gorgeous!

Ampeg Portaflex or Markbass Mini CMD151P?
guybrush threepwood replied to eParrot's topic in Amps and Cabs
IMO the new Ampegs just nail the B15 sound. OK, they can't really do the gritty valve thing, but they're really nice and warm, and the voicing of them is spot on. However, they're not the loudest of cabs, probably as they're sealed. I've done jazz gigs with my PF350/115, as well as bigger stuff where I was DI'd and both were fine, although the stage volume wasn't really high on the latter. I'm looking to get another cab to pair with it for bigger gigs without PA support. On the contrary, I've had a Markbass rig (Jeff Berlin 15" combo with NY15 extension) and that was really loud, but I always felt it had loads of presence in the mids to create this volume; it never seemed to be much of a 'rumbler'. There's nothing wrong with this at all, but it seems to me that the Markbass stuff is voiced in a more modern and neutral way, whereas my Ampeg sounds 'tubbier'. Different strokes and all that... I've had the pleasure of playing through a B15 once and was instantly in love. However, they're just too heavy and too quiet to be practical - for me the Ampeg PF gear is the thing that gets closest. On the reliability issue, they did seem to have a dodgy batch early on, and this did play on my mind when I bought my amp. However, mine hasn't missed a beat as yet, and I got four years warranty on it as I bought it from Digital Village. -

orange 200 bass stack ... bargain?
guybrush threepwood replied to 1970's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
When I had one, Orange sent me a new handle for free. -
As an update, I'll be putting this on a eBay buy it now tomorrow. I'd much rather sell it on here of course (and it'll be priced higher on eBay to reflect their fees). I am open to offers, though not really interested in trades at the moment - I'd like to use the money from this sale on another cab, and I'm quite specific in what I'm after.
Keep life simple .... Buy a P.
This is what it's all about. There's this whole Zen thing of the P-bass; because it doesn't jump out of the mix it allows you to play more complicated lines and stay in the pocket. So a simpler setup can mean more technical playing. But ultimately, it just works. I wish I'd discovered this years ago, and not got caught up with basses that constantly shout "LISTEN TO ME! LISTEN TO ME!"- cutting through the mix like a needy child... The P is just cool and it knows it.

I picked this up a couple of months ago, with a view to learn upright again, but I simply do not have time. It's a 3/4 size ply bass, which a previous owner has painted a rather fetching duck egg colour, with black edges. The fingerboard is painted, it is not ebony. It plays really nicely, with an excellently fitted bridge, low action and there are no rattles or buzzes. It has a set of D'addario helicore light pizz strings fitted, which are about 6 weeks old, and there is also a bag of various old strings (which came with the bass), which includes weedwackers, nylons and even some gut strings. (However, I don't know what the quality of these sets is as I haven't fitted them). There is also an adjustable bridge included which isn't currently fitted, but it looks like it has been in the past - the shape is cut to match the current bridge. Here's where it gets good... The bass is fitted with a K&K Rockabilly pickup system - this is a piezo in the bridge wing and a clicky on the back of the fingerboard, with an external preamp which allows you to set the volume, gain, treble and bass of each pickup independently. There is also a carbon German bow from Thomann, along with a pot of rosin. I've also got a well padded gigbag for the bass which will be included in the sale. I'm looking for £450 ono, collected from Derby, or I could travel a reasonable distance providing my petrol is covered. This is a lot of bass for the money, and it's ready to play, set up well with good strings, a gigbag, and a great pickup.
