2. From what you have written I think you have done most of your playing in your "comfort zone" as in you have played with a band/fellow musicians you are very familiar with. Go out and play with musicians you don't know, play styles you are not comfortable with. Yes it is a "fly by the seat of your pants" thing but that's how you learn. If you f~@k it up, learn from it and do better next time. Go to auditions you don't think you want to get, use it to get experience of playing different music . Open mike nights tend to just go down the blues jam route, from what you have said you can do that. Have a go at what you can't do. You never know you might love it and end up playing a style you never thought you would. I have been a musician for about 30 years, in that time I've never liked listening to or playing Jazz. 3 weeks ago I was asked to play for a jazz group playing at an opening night of a new Jazz & Blues club. Thought I'd give it ago, if group didn't like what I do on bass this would show in the rehearsal. After 3 rehearsals we played the gig last Friday night, we played really well and the audience loved. From my point of view I'm really enjoying it, I think I sound like a blues/rock bass player trying to play jazz but it can only get better, and the band is doing very well. Dale

Looking for £80 each or £150 for both +p&p Ta very glad Dale Unichorus now SOLD Mulitdrive now £70+post or looking for a good guitar delay pedal trade
4.
If you're playing mainstream and standards/blues stuff then you need to learn to walk. There is a really good double bass book by Rufus Reid called the Evolving Bassist, it has a load of ideas and examples of how to play over various chords and sequences. It's a starting point. I would also say get a few lessons. If you're in the Pennine region you have Gary Culshaw over in Preston, He is a demon jazz bassist (he taught me) and knows all there is to know about how to play over changes. If you go to him say hello from Jake Newman. Best of luck and keep the questions coming if you need to. Jake
Thanks for the info, do you have any contact details for Gary ?, I don't seem to be able to find a Web site or anything Ta very glad Dale
5. Although I have been a musician for about 30 years, I have not really in that time played much Jazz. I am now playing for a Jazz/blues based group and could do with some pointers for this type of playing. I'm looking for good book or dvd recomendations of the Jazz style. Ta very glad BIGd

8. change of plan, I now just need a digital delay pedal.......... or the money is always good.
9. Does it really matter how somebody makes music ? I can read music, I can also play by ear, I can play in with a group of musicians and just jam along to whatever is coming together musically. Music IMO is something you do to express yourself, if that is just to play a 12bar blues or a full opus, it's whatever floats your boat. I find it quite strange that people at the top in so called popular music think they have the answers to how we should all make music. As history has show there is no right or wrong why to approach this thing we all love to do, at what ever level we do it. I have played at the very top in classical circles as a tuba player, and I have played for 12 bar blues bands who don't have any musical theory understanding, both have been fantastic to be part of. But I would never try to tell anyone that my way is the right way and no other route is correct, isn't it just what what does it for you ? However you take part in music, aren't you doing it because you enjoy it ? Not because its a chore, if it is the latter IMO get out now and do something else......... music isn't for you. JB does seem to have a lot of very judgemental views, he is a very good bass player / musician, but is he really an expert ? He is of course entitled to his opinion, we don't have to agree or disagree, just read it and take it for what it is. Jeff's opinion. He does unfortunately have the opportunity to put his opinions out publicly, still don't mean he's right.............. only in my opinion of course !! Ta very Glad BIDd
10. I have a Jensen 15" Neo speaker (not a cab just the speaker), was going to make a cab but never got round to it. Unused, opened the box to have a look then left as it was delivered, mint condition. Spec here http://www.jensentone.com/neo15-300.php Cost me £100, will take £60, or trade for a Big Muff Pi, or Tape echo type foot pedal, possibly Danelectro etc. Ta very glad BIGd
11. This looks like a stand you can't use to play the bass on. Do you know if this is the case. I am looking for a stand you can play the bass on.
hFris om the Stagg Thread: Just ordered my Stagg stand. Got it from here http://www.mt247.co.uk/index.html Just type SV-EDB in the Quick Search box and away you go. It cost £42.27 incl VAT and delivery, which is the cheapest I managed to find online.
12. I bought this a few weeks ago, very pleased with it. Only problem is I would like to get a stand for it. It is the same as a Stagg EUB in looks etc so I would think the Stagg stand should do the job. Any body know where I can get a Stagg stand or any other that will work with this EUB. I want the stand to be the type you can play the bass on, not just a rest stand (if you get my meaning). Ta very glad BIGd
13. I'd be up for that, sounds like could be a great day. BIGd
14. Just bought one of these from PMT in Mancheater. Managed to get it for £265. In a very nice red colour, it seems to play ok, and for the price sounds quite good. Anybody got one of these they have been playing, thoughts on how good/bad they are. Although at that price does it really matter., seemms like a bargain way to get into EUB. Ta Very Glad BIGd
15. I live in Saddleworth, in between Manchester & Hudderfield. It's near J22 on the M62, but I am more than willing to meet up or deliver within reason if that helps, for petrol money
16.
How much for the head?
£150 no offers...... unless you have a frender jazz delux swop no cash involved
17. Is this still for sale ?
18. Lots of people saying they would love to buy this but no funds, sign of the times. BIGd
19. I feel I'm offering a great rig for a very cheap price. I can't believe no body wants this. Come on guys your missing a real bargain. I have seen Ashdown & Hartke stuff selling no problem, these really are not a patch on the sound and power of this set-up. Get um whilst it's hot, beat the credit crunch, bag a bargain, give me some room in my hall way.
