Speaking of Tec-Amp Joe, whilst I was perusing their website I spotted this: I'm pretty damn interested maself, as one of the big factors that will sway me in the competition of the small amps, is whether it will fit in a 1u rack slot. I think, along with the F1 and F500, this one is a winner, 900W at 4 Ohms http://www.tec-amp.com/index.php?id=234
looks like they've slimmed down the 300, 500 as well. These are the dark horses of the micro amp battle.
2. after 20 years, possibly yes. New Tecamp Puma 500 with a BF compact and midget t. The entire rig weighs less than my old peavey 4x10. I have heavier pedals than my Tecamp.
3.
There is a Puma 1000 in the 'for Sale' forum - they can do 1k bridged into 8 Ohms
absolute monster and better than the others mentioned so far in my humble opinion.
4.
Traded my Tecamp puma 500 for Rich's PJB bass buddy. Great communication, quick and very painless deal. Thanks Rich!
your welcome boss - great deal.
5. I love my SFX microfuzz, which I play on a loop with a clean blend. Depending on your set up my preference is to have clean blend on hand (the microfuzz has perfectly decent low end retention) but if real estate on your board is at a premium there's little better than the microfuzz. max would def be able to sort you out with any variation of the standard.
6. Hi guys, just mixing things up a bit on the pedal board with a few new pedals coming in, need to free up space. Sold a couple, remaining I have: (1) SOLD EHX bassballs nano - modded to put internal filter controls on outside. Decent condition, velcro, original box. £30 posted UK. (2) SOLD Boss CE2B chorus - this has been modded with a John Fromel supreme kit (link below). Decent condition, velcro, original box. £40 posted UK. (3) SOLD Boss GE7B eq. This works absolutely fine but as photo shows has had a bass cab dropped on its corner, damaging eq panel and losing a slider cover. Amazingly LED still works. Original box. £25 posted UK. (4) SOLD WOBO double looper - a tidy basic double loop pedal (no blend) with the cool addition of an inverse switch (gets you from both on to off, a to b etc). Full working order, small scuffs, recessed LED that still works fine.
7. Come on someone must be interested style bump
8.
1000W in 5Kg for less than 600 notes? Now that kinda spec is Dood territory!
I like your style my friend. Many of the reasons so far given not to buy - wake the dead, blow out doors - seem like great reasons to me.
9. my god I am so trying hard to like this. I am an average rocky, poppy sort of player and I have no issue with chops and all the rest - I admire and lust after that kind of wisdom and ability - but this is one of the least interesting examples of the "high end" market I have come across, just way too much going on. I will listen again because it must be me.
10. no idea why but I seriously want one of these! Just got this vision of me playing it through my full rig.
11. i have kept my subscription. A big pile of back issues sit in my bathroom where I find most time to read them. This month's was pretty poor.
12. will keep an eye out and get the word round people I know.
13. very nice! I expect it looks freakin awesome with a couple of PC cabs. I'd love a head looking like this that was effectively micro (or at least smaller) size but this Hiwatt, Marshall shape. I hoped the new Markbass TTE 500 head was a bit smaller and lighter than the usual.
14.
Here y'go bud, a few bigger pics of my old one (NOT the one for sale but it'll look the same)
that's now my midget t!!!
15. thanks I was only kidding! However to be fair I was sort of seriously enquiring whether a splitter out of a single speakon into 2 8 ohm cab was in any way different from a single speakon out to an 8 ohm cab daisy chained to another. I had concepts like series and parallel in mind. Based on balloons and maths (2x8ohm cabs= 4ohms) I am now supposed to know that however you connect 2 8 ohm cabs to an amp you get a 4 ohm load? So, crucially, I dont need to worry about finding a 2 output amp to power my single speakon BF cabs.
16. that's a great bass at a fab price. Good luck with sale from a happy owner of a corvette $$5
17.
Yes
why?
18. oh my oh my! KS might be a bit feisty and all the rest as a person but good god he can make basses
19. Hello. What does using a y splitter mean for load when connected to 2 8 ohm cabs? There is no end to my ignorance but will that mean 4 ohm?!
20.
My only worry is if I am happy with this setup and have no more updates,,,,, what will you read on this forum Rich??? Hahahaha
that's hilarious mate there is not a snobaws chance in hell of you settling down to a set up! I could be on here till I'm an old man and you'd still be searching for that perfect bit of kit. But you're right. If you do settle down, I will have little reason to come here.
21.
Well the PF500 turned up as planned on Tuesday, but I've had very little time to play with it - until tonight at practice. I ran it through the Compact and Midget, using my Zoom B2 for a little it of 'drive' for some songs. As an aside, my love for the Zoom seems to have waned of late - and it appears to be ending up as an expensive tuner at the moment - the more I use it the more noisy I find it sounds. Perhaps as I gain more experience and confidence, I'm becoming more fussy about the sound. It's a great tuner though lol. The PF sounded absolutely glorious through the cabs (alongside two average volume guitarists, drummer and vocals). I've been enjoying the tone I get from my Micro VR, but just needed more oomph. I think I've found it! My workhorse over the past couple of years has been my MAG600 - it's never missed a beat, and seems built to last. I prefer the wood/tolex finishes compared to the metal of the PF - just seems more gig-resistant, if you get my drift. I'd love the PF500 innards in the Micro VR form factor . I'm not used to having selectable mid frequencies, and I'm going to have to twiddle with that some more before I'm comfortable with what it's actually doing to my sound. Leaving the tone section on flat, and switching the Lo boost on, gives an authoritative, deep, tuneful and solid bottom - exactly where I like to be. Selecting either 2 or 3 on the mid selector and with a bit of mid boost really brings some 'punch' to the equation. And the Pf500/Midget/Compact setup is extremely loud. But the beauty is there is not a hint of stress to be heard - probably a lot to do with the cabinets, but also the amp not running out of steam at those higher volumes (which I doubt I shall need that often). The compressor seems a tad harsh (read 'abrupt) at times, and I needed to back it off a lot before I was happy with it. Fan noise is irrelevant when playing, and the unit was hardly warm even after an extended thrashing. And fortunately it fits perfectly in a spare laptop bag I had to hand - amp, pedal and cables all in one bag In summary, I can say it appears to be giving me what I had hoped sound-wise. I was going to say if anyone is still considering the Andertons deal, don't delay. Unfortunately it appears that they are now out of stock - which doesn't surprise me. Even at £380 its a great amp - I was just one of the lucky ones to nab one for less than £300. Cheers Geoff
that's a helpful review. Just a small technical question, I note that the PF500 has separate jack and speakon outputs, are you connecting a cab to each? My midget t and compact are the usual one speakon set up and just want to be sure that the outputs work simultaneously to two cabs to deliver a 4 ohm load, rather than as alternative ways to get a single output that then needs daisy chained.
22.
The bass terror head is getting delivered tomorrow but I couldnt wait to stick up a wee pic of what I have so far.. I cant wait to ge the head and try this 2x12 out. Roll on fridays rehearsal to try out the full rig
oh, yes! That will be awesome mate. Looks good, sounds brilliant. Perfect set up.
23.
Did Barge Concepts stop making their pedals, or did I just imagine this? Im sure I read something like that a while back.
not sure what's with them. There were def issues a while back and if you go to bargeconcepts.com there's not been much going on for 18 months. The pedal range is still behind the front page. >>HERE<<
