1.
You'll need a bigger car.
Buy the cab and get the step ladder thrown in for FREE!
2. Basschat is the Culprit!!! Years ago you'd buy an amp or guitar and use it until it blew up or wore out. Nowdays if you want to experiment with gear you have basschat, gumtree, ebay etc to offload your gear and buy new stuff from. So you look after it as you never know when you may need to sell it in order to buy something different.
3. Aha The exact pickups! But frankly I don't think it's worth what he's asking. £250 tops as most Geddys go for £400 to £450 secondhand and people like the Geddy's for the neck. If it ain't got the neck then nobody's that interested. http://www.dv247.com...bass-p-u--47774
4.
Hi Jackjazz. When removing pickups, you need to unsolder the wires from the volume and tone pots so as to keep them attatched to the pickups. The copper wire which is wound around the pickups is extremely fine and very difficult to successfully attatch to the wires for the controls. You may have inadvertently ruined your pickups.
Handy bit of info that.

Texas Jazz?

Yes I'm sure they sell parts etc. I'm sure I came across them when searching for a neck for my jazz.
7. The pickup poles are correct for the Vintage Jazz Bass Single-Coil Pickups the Geddy has fitted as standard. They're not flush with the cover they're tapered like the bass shown on ebay (or at least my ones were). It has a Japanese style scratchplate, a badass bridge and the rear pickup is in the 70s position. So when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. It's definitely A Geddy.
8.
Really? I thought they were US "vintage"?
They are and sound very 'vintagey' and bassy when you change the neck on the Geddy to a rosewood one. It's the thin neck that gives the thin sound not the pickup. I know as I have one on my present Jazz and it changed the sound completely.
9.
i was getting a little annoyed that i couldnt find this track.. my sister just sent me this,...... my sister knows more than anyone in this world about soul and funk....this is some great bass playing from James Jamerson.... good sister..
Oh Mamma, this is great. And the bass played with just one finger.
10. If you're into Motown at the moment watch this, you'll love it http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=XI4w8lupUlk&ob=av1n&feature=mv_sr
11.
That's a really nice looking bass!
+1
12. Aaaaah! Just bought a set of DiMarzios after cancelling my order for a set of customer shop fender pickups that never arrived after 7 weeks of waiting. Bad timing for me but good luck with the sale.
13. It is very pretty but if you can play your bass with those pickup covers on you're a better man than me. I fitted a set and had to take them right back off again because I couldn't get anywhere near the strings.
14.
Aint no blurry line to me. Fender American Standard. Plug in, rock. Nothing else is relevant.
I agree. And having owned 4 very nice Japanese Fenders I would have traded them in for a US one at the drop of a hat. Not necessarily because they are any better in terms of quality but because Fenders are American Rock 'N' Roll icons and I'm a hopeless romantic.
15.
does Fender not use CNC 1 min in. I guess their CNCs inject extra craftmanship or something doing them 4 at a time?
I've noticed that Fender are starting to make a lot of their guitars and basses in the far east and actually putting the Fender logo on them, probably because the quality is so high now. How long will people be prepared to pay such high prices for an American built product when they make them just as good for half the price elswhere. I should also have added that there's no craftsmanship in making a Fender either. It's just a factory process like making kitchen units or whatever. The cost of the finished guitar is dependant on where in the world it's made. Costs are higher in California and lower in Indonesia/China/Thailand etc. Don't get me started on globalisation I'm not a big fan.
16. I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but £25 per performance is pretty naff. The standard pro touring rate rate is around £1,000 a week. But on the other hand............ it sure sounds like a lot of fun.
17. This is why. There is no craftsmanship in making a Squire. You just have to have the hardware.
18. I TOTALLY LOVE IT!!! I'm a big Tom Waits fan. Can you tell? It must have been a wrench to leave them...................but wounds heal (I should know, as I'm back with a band I left 10 years ago).
19. Very high bids for this Geddy Lee. They usually go for £400 to £500 max. The seller must be chuffed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300703300609?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
20. That's very interesting. It's got proper tuners and the rear pickup is in the 70s position. Nice inlay too. There's been some dodgy 70s Fender clones on this forum but this looks like the real deal. Good luck with the sale.
21. They were imported by James Grant in Edinburgh in the 70s early 80s and given the name of his music shop. I bought mine in 79 because I was a spotty 16 year old with no money and it was the cheapest bass in the shop. If only I'd known it would one day become a collectors item I would have covered it in cellophane and stored it in a temperature controlled vault at the bank for the last 33 years as an investment for my retirement.
22. I liked the white one.
23.
Just a note: People pays between 4.000$ and 20.000$ for a original pre-CBS. The value of a mint condition '71 P-Bass like this is 3.000$ aprox. The value of a '00 P-Bass MiM is about 300$. And you, bass players, are not sure of which is which... something's wrong... hahaha
That's the value to 'investors' for vintage stuff. 'Players' just want something that sounds good. So if you had the choice of a loan ,to record an album, of a 62 P bass that sounded awful or a Squier that sounded great, most would go for the Squier. Put a Wizard thumper in a Squier bass and you'll get it sounding like a 62 P.
