  1. If you wanted to go a bit heavier then there are no solos on the whole of Metallica's St Anger album.
  2. My 7yo introduced me to this this evening, and I think I might be addicted. Some potentially very useful stuff in here amongst the funny stuff. https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/
  3. Sometimes I think it would be amazing to hear the classics again for the first time
  4. I think Rhythm Stick is my great white whale, but more realistic party pieces I want to actually be able to play are Hysteria and Master Blaster.
  5. It's interesting if you watch his episode of This Is Your Life when someone is on and talking about crowds of schoolgirls stalking his house and he looks very uncomfortable with this being mentioned (apologies for the Daily Heil link, I couldn't find it anywhere else).
  6. If you were looking to be a bit more diverse and have more women in the list I'd have put in a bid for Karen Carpenter over Meg White.
  7. This is the one I'd like to master, but I don't think I have enough years in me left to do so (I'm 45).
  8. You mean there are singers where you don't want to?
  9. Established bands have that too. Our last gig was NYE, next one is 11th May.
  10. I thought it was the Ninjas that were green? I admit to no knowledge on the subject beyond my sister owning a Ninja many years ago
  11. A cheap copy of a cheap copy of a cheap copy of the Precision bass. A very specific niche indeed, I'm excited to see how it plays out.
  12. They can be more specific if they want to be though.
  13. This inspires a lot of confidence in the quality...
  14. In general it's the same for me, my only real gripe is that "new" Teams really hates meeting links created in "classic" Teams, to the extent that I've very nearly missed important meetings through being unable to get into them. Other than that it just does what it does.
  15. The functionality isn't quite as good using the web apps though, otherwise I'd agree. The other main reason we keep Windows around is for my 7yo who is learning on computers at school. I'm sure there are Linux distros that are kid-centric but would be too basic for me, and I haven't had the time to go into researching how to set up locked-down child accounts on a regular one. The Microsoft Family Safety stuff is something I'd like to keep as well.
  16. Honestly having Office 365 is one of the main reasons my home computer is still Windows, because if Microsoft developed a Linux version I'd happily move over completely; as it is I have a 21 year old laptop running Ubuntu out of curiosity more than anything. I imagine most applications where there isn't a Linux equivalent I could run in Wine or something though.
  17. Usually I stand stage left, but I generally arrive to load in after our guitarist so end up standing on whichever side she isn't
  18. Nice one! My first gig with the band was at Venue 23, we even got use of the plush headliner room at the back even though we were second from top of the bill 😂
  19. After doing some reading around the subject and looking into posts on Talk Bass, it seems that the issue I'm having with my Elf is that I'm just playing too hard and making the amp overheat, as it only really becomes an issue when I go hard playing with a pick, and in particular when I'm using my P-bass which has a much hotter output from the ceramic pickup than my Sire with Alnico pickups does. So it looks like the Elf will be relegated to a backup and rehearsal amp only, which is a shame as it sounds great.

What's that you say? Just play softer? What kind of madness is that?

No worries, and sorry if I was a bit brusque. It is a bit dissapointing, my P sounds great through it but it can only be used in stints shorter than a typical set or where the risk of me playing too hard is low, so if I'm going to use the Elf live I need to use the Sire. That also sounds great, but it's annoying to have that limitation on using it.

Well, there's an easy fix for this.

Buy another one (or two!) one for each section of your sets 😅 But that's an unfortunate trade off for the small footprint.

In the interest of saying I'd tried absolutely everything I turned the gain down to about 9 o'clock, had to all but max out the volume, and turned the amp off during breaks to give the fan a rest, and after all that I only had one minor blip in today's rehearsal.

I don't think this is a workable arrangement to enable me to use the P-bass and Elf as the starting rig for a gig, but at least I have settings that seem to work in rehearsal and should work in a pinch in the the event I have to use it for a backup on a gig. Just have to hope my ABM can keep up now!

  20. Dave definitely seems a good sort, and is one of the reasons I'll stay an Ashdown player.
  21. Limited experience playing my Sire through @Merton's and a Barefaced One10 but I remember it sounding lovely.
  22. It gets bonus points over its guitar equivalent because it has a DI out, the lack of which is very annoying in the event we ever have to use a PA at a gig because of guitarist can never remember the way to get a signal out of it.
  23. I've gone myself listening to a lot of 6 Music recently now my car has a DAB radio. That Craig Charles gets about, doesn't he.
  24. Learning Halo by Texas, which I'm finding tricky because the bass is buried in the mix and I can't easily pick it out. Not that it matters because it's got the band and our singist is male, so I may not be able to go low enough with a 4er anyway. Such a shame I don't have the money for a 5er as we seem to be finding more songs that would be better in a lower register so singist can actually sing it.
