  1. Having a strange conversation with someone on Friendface on a post regarding a good bass to learn on. The relevant comments are below: Him: Jazz bass knobs are a little too close in my opinion and my hand tends to adjust them accidentally Me: Just... how? Are you playing with a pick? If so how hard are you striking the strings? Him: the knobs are close to the strings. Just like a strat. My pinky fingers get too close In 27 years of playing bass I've neither experienced this or heard of anyone else experiencing it. I'm well aware of the known quirk of the Strat design that means one can accidentally turn down the volume owing to the proximity of the strings and the knob, but never on a Jazz bass. Is this something I'm just oblivious about, or does this guy need to sort his technique out?
  2. Is this the bass you were playing at the Kieran tribute?
  3. We're also with Insure4Music, their prices were quite reasonable last time we renewed.
  4. The word on the street is that Bass Direct can order them in...
  5. I'm two thirds of the way there, just that second Two10S to acquire somehow!
  6. OK, I'll be the first to suggest the equipment in your signature just to get it out of the way.
  7. Probably a bit too modern for Stowmarket...
  8. Same here, very nifty things they are. They take a fair few of my 1.14mm plectra.
  9. It's not from lack of desire that I'm not buying it, I assure you!
  10. One of these on each bass: https://amzn.eu/d/bJexKpe, and a few in a pick holder on my car key ring.
  11. I've been really pleasantly surprised by how well my Elf and Two10S pair together, and have had some nice comments from audience members on my tone. My ABM is definitely the preferred solution if circumstances allow though.
  12. If you're looking at a Player Plus it might be worth hanging on for an alternative like Sire, G&L, the new Sadowsky MetroExpress range (when they finally hit the UK in anger), etc. as they'll be a) cheaper and b) arguably better.
  13. Welcome! Stay away from the marketplace forums if you want to avoid nasty letters from your bank, there's too much tempting stuff in there!
  14. Foul tempter that y'are! In all seriousness this is genuinely a bass I've been eyeing up for some time (to complete a P/J/MM Leo trilogy), but unfortunately other essential non-bassy things (alas such things do exist) need to take priority, like the £192 I've just had to shell out for a new battery for the car. While I'm sure you'd be annoyed by this still being up for sale by then I'm not going to be in the market until at least Easter I'm afraid, unless I get a sudden windfall before then.
  15. Just realised I never put in our fees. We normally charge £400 (five-piece covers band) but often will do £350, based largely around Bradford and Huddersfield. We have a fairly regular NYE gig where we get £500. A lot of places I've tried to get us into near me in Wakefield and the Five Towns have said we're too expensive, but our singist is firmly against going below £300 so that prices us out of most places unfortunately.
  16. Can confirm it sounded pretty damned thunderous through my headphones on the videos! Hopefully next time you're up in this neck of the woods I'll have some cash and can sort a babysitter so I can bring the missus as she loves a bit of country.
  17. We've been trying to ask for more but times are hard so not had much luck so far. A lot of existing gigs only want to pay us what they've paid us previously, which is fair enough, and a lot of new places I've approached recently haven't even been willing/able to meet the lower end of our asking price range.
  18. Oh man, I'd love to treat myself for Christmas, but I strongly suspect I'd also be treating myself to a hefty dollop of martial strife! GLWTS!
