That old problem of missing notes when playing
asingardenof replied to FretsOnFire's topic in General Discussion
Done that, I knew something was off throughout but couldn't put my finger on it until the penny dropped a day or two later -
When I had mine I used to enjoy sowing chaos and confusion by driving reasonably and indicating when the highway code says one should. It was delightful.

A certain G&L L-2500 Tribute would definitely still be on the list, but I suspect having to buy a house will be more pressing a purchase.

We got a few requests for rock songs which our singist politely declined, and a couple of requests for Erasure, which I'm sure will be ignored as they're out of his vocal range. I think I also need to find a rock group to satisfy my need to rock out more.

I'm happy to say that your playing was not in any way cackhanded and the tone was most excellent, as was catching up with you. Hopefully next time there'll be more time.

Pissing this now as I'm off to that there London at the arse crack off dawn tomorrow and won't be back until Monday evening. A much-hyped gig at the Salthorn WMC near Bradford this evening, up and "unfinished" road so bad that left me fearing for the car's suspension. Fortunately it survived and I was able to find a parking space virtually outside the front door. The pace was smaller than I was expecting but I decided to use the ABM anyway and it sounded very nice, but probably overkill. I'd been told that the club was likely to be packed and it was, but everyone was sat down until we were well into our second set when we had half a dozen brave souls up and dancing. We all played well, with only a couple of gaffs; the first being out drummist forgetting that he's not supposed to play during the breakdown in Let Me Entertain You, and the second where I, having remembered to retune after our last sing being in drop D, then forgot to disengage the tuner pedal and wondered why I was a bit quiet during the first couple of bars of our first encore. We went down very well and they've promised to rebook us next year, which is nice because we're having a hard time getting new gigs at the moment. Obligatory "tonight's office" photo and a warning aimed at someone called Worthington possibly...

The first one live on an actual stage was Daytripper. The first one live with a band I can't remember, I just know that Daughter was in the set but that's about it.

Second gig in two weeks!

I've seen these getting some good reviews: https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/headphone-practice-amp/aguilar-amplug-tone-hammer-bass-guitar-headphone-practice-amp. I imagine all of these types of headphone amp are pretty much of a muchness though. I have the Vox equivalent and it's very handy, you just need a 1.8mm headphone jack and to have a similar sized lead to plug into whatever you want to play music from.

It's on my list. Now I know I can play that sort of speed having gotten the first half of Footloose down (damn you, Nathan East!) I'm game to give it a go.

Christmas present ideas for bassists

That can backfire, I got something like 100 of the damn things last year. -
A return to the Plumbers Arms in Huddersfield last night. The usual postage stamp-sized area for the band to set up in, with the added bonus of our drummist having some sort of tree-shaped lighting fixture next to him that took up one of the two available plug sockets, meaning that everything was daisy-chained off my 4-way extension with me having been the first to plug in. The lack of space also meant that I was stood facing perpendicular to the rest of the band because I was positioned right behind one of the PA speakers and I was in constant danger of knocking the thing into some unsuspecting punters as it was. I used the Siredowsky, and the lack of space encouraged me to give the Elf it's first outing since New Year's Eve and it performed admirably despite the terrible acoustics. For most of the first set I could barely hear myself while our singist who was stood next to me claimed I was too loud, until at the break we realised that one of the PA speaker's input levels had been set too low, and after that everything sounded pretty good. We all played pretty well apart from a minor stumble in the breakdown of A Town Called Malice when our keyboardist randomly missed a beat, but fortunately it was right before the bass solo so we righted ourselves after that. We had a few people dancing through both sets, and afterwards a few people came up to tell me we'd played well, which was nice. After having no gigs since August we have another one next Saturday, at a larger venue which promises to be rammed, so looking forward to that!

I'm liking the band name too

Fender Rumble 800 Combo or something else?
asingardenof replied to WILD FROG SHOT's topic in Amps and Cabs
The Rumble will only be c.300W without the second cab, though that should be plenty loud enough as you say -
D'Addario EXL165TP strings offer on Amazon
asingardenof replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
If I didn't already have three sets in my cupboard, along with a brace of the XT equivalents, then I'd be all over this, but you can have too much of a good thing. -
What's the best stand for a Jazz Bass?
asingardenof replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
I've got one of these and it works well: https://www.thomann.co.uk/millenium_gs_3500_b.htm -
Ocean Drive - Lighthouse Family

The NYXL equivalent set is also relatively cheap at the moment: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DAddario-NYXL45105-Medium-Bottom-Nickel/dp/B019JD0P5I/

Oooh! *grabby hands* Edit: I already have three sets of these so I think I'm good for the foreseeable future 😅

Unless you really want your room cleared while you're there, leaving the "do not disturb"/"do not clean" hanger on the door means that nobody will (should) go in.

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!
asingardenof replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
I can recommend the Elf/Two10 combination
