  1. I really like his bass playing (and enjoying playing Girls & Boys and Country House in our current set) but I went off him after he suggested that playing bass was easy. I know Dave Mustaine has said the same recently but I've always thought he was a bit of a See You Next Tuesday. The man does make some lovely cheese as well though.
  2. A friend of mine who is much more musically-educated likes to call that rhythm "the 12/8 plod" (see also Black Velvet, etc)
  3. And what used to be called their "all about the bass" series. It looks like Nathan King isn't doing so much of that as it mostly seems to be Lee and Cici these days.
  4. Sometimes a song is that easy/boring/repetitive that I just zone out, forget what I'm doing and it takes me a second to get back up to speed.
  5. Not just rock singers. I think calling Johnny Cash a singer would be quite charitable but it works.
  6. I've tried using Newtone Diamond round core stainless roundwound, but couldn't get on with them being so zingy to start, and they also ripped my fingers to shreds. I use the equivalent nickel model now and am much happier.
  7. I can highly recommend the setup I have with an Ashdown ABM 600 and a Barefaced Two10, both bought secondhand (from some fine members of this site) so cost me £900 in total.
  8. Is that the one Chris Wolstenholme plays on Madness?
  9. I've seen a YT video where a guy from Ampeg tried to recreate an SVT sound with the PF range. He got close for the purposes of the video.
  10. Weren't The Who involved in their development? Or was that Marshall amps? Or both?
  11. Definitely car, I've too much to carry to think about public transport as an option (plus I'd get some very strange looks on the bus), and don't have the money for taxis.
  12. I had the 1/4" cable first because the amp I was using at the time only had that connector, while my current one has Speakon. My backup amp also only has a 1/4" socket so I'd need it for that in case anything happens. I will get another Speakon cable eventually, but other things have a higher priority at the moment
  13. Good to know! Fortunately I only have one cab for now and have a 1/4" cable to use as a backup.
  14. I think occasional forays into the red is an approach that Ashdown actively encourage?
  15. Dave also has Views on the manufacturer of the cables, and suggests finding ones with actual Neutrik connectors.
  16. Agreed, I noticed a huge difference between the 500 and 600, but that could be because the power amp in the specific 500 was on the way out.
