  1. So far this hasn't been an issue, and the only time I've had to DI is when my amp blew. That's what I'm thinking. We're playing at a small festival in October and at the moment I'm looking to DI, but as it's a VW camper festival and not a music festival I'm wondering if relying on the PA would be advisable. A pic from last year's event: While she's a personal trainer she is quite short so I reckon I could take her. Our synth player is quite wiry and smokes like a chimney so no worries there either 🤣
  2. From the reviews I've seen the V5s look to be fantastic instruments. Honestly, if they'd been a thing when I bought my V7, I wouldn't have my V7.
  3. If it were me, I'd think that Tech21 aren't widely known for much beyond preamps and effects, so I'd be a bit wary of trying one of their cabs. The Ashdown would appear to be a safer bet in terms of a known quantity, and in particular if anything goes wrong with it you'd find more resources to help.
  4. OK, time to attempt to ask the question that's been rattling around in my brain for a little while - when is one cab not enough? Specifically, I have an Ashdown ABM600 and a Barefaced Two10S. This will likely do for most of the gigs I'll play, as they're mostly in pubs, working men's clubs, sports clubs, etc. but there's a nagging thought that says "you might need another one if you play anywhere bigger". Is that thought correct? Chances are at larger venues I'll be able to DI into the in-house PA so will only need to worry about hearing myself on stage, but at what point does doubling up on cabs become a necessity, and should I rely on venue PA being good enough? I'm conscious that my amp is realistically 500W @ 4 ohms into the Barefaced, but if I double up it'll only be c.450W @ 6 ohms with 2 x 12 ohm cabs. So less power but more speaker area - does that equal louder, better dispersion, people at the back being able to hear, or does it just equate to a waste of several hundred pounds for no benefit? If it were to become a necessity would I need to get a more powerful amp able get the full power from the speakers? Apologies for the lack of technical terms and vague ramblings, I'm just not quite sure how to express what I'm asking.
  5. Interesting, I've not run mine full bore without a compressor in front of it. Might give it a try at the next gig! I suspect I can probably do without the compressor for most of our set.
  6. Chvrches are great , I've liked them since I saw them at Glastonbury not long ago (only on the telly though).
  7. A lot of it is processed so much that if there are actual physical instruments involved they're compressed and quantised so much they may as well not be. This is not to say I dislike electronic music, because that's not the case, but if a tune involves humans mechanically creating it then I want to hear imperfections in tone, timing, dymanics, etc.
  8. Yep, now I've got essentials out of the way I'm having to not get tempted, and the one purchase I'm eyeing up will require some quite rigorous saving and selling of other gear.
  9. That's very interesting, I have also heard similar rumours. I have seen them being demonstrated by certain women who were doing other tasks such as ordering coffee at a drive through, which just shows their laudible dedication to multitasking.
  10. Speaking of which, can anyone recommend an inexpensive option for this? I'd quite like the Gator two-bass pro gig bag but at close to £200 it's a bit out of reach at the moment. There are a few (eg G4M) at a fraction of this price but will I mess up both of my basses by choosing a false economy?
  11. Designed by Hans Niemann? (niche chess joke there) Certain websites inform me that certain similar devices do actually exist for women, but I can neither confirm nor deny that is actually the case...
  12. Very nice! I'm not normally a fan of that style of single cut bass but that actually looks lovely.
  13. We've only had to cancel gigs before because our singist had knackered his voice on the previous gig, or someone's been ill.
  14. At the moment one just because of logistics, but I am eyeing up a two-bass case so I can take a backup in case something goes wrong. I already have a spare amp after a previous one blew in the middle of a gig and at least one other DI option.
  15. The exception to this is on the Fender Performer series where the "Greasebucket" (named after the shape, not the greasiness) tone control rolls off the treble and bass to leave you with a more midrangey tone. I wasn't a fan when I tried a Performer Jazz, although I loved everything else about the bass.
  16. Knock Three Times - Tony Orlando & Dawn
  17. Tainted Love - Gloria Jones, Soft Cell, et al
  18. "We're sorry, our bass player has forgotten all our songs. Is there another bass player out there who does and can step in?"
  19. Don't forget that Daphne & Celeste once appeared at Reading and Leeds...
  20. Yep, I've had a few: Playing in the wrong key for an entire song because I forgot we weren't playing in the same key as the original Turning down the volume between songs when I had to do something that would have caused noise, then forgetting to turn it back up again when I started playing My mind wandering and forgetting what it is I was playing and having to drop out for a bar to refocus
  21. No, but that will now change. RS has said they're looking into doing a MetroExpress P-bass though.
  22. The five-string version of this is on my list, looks amazing. GLWTS!
