  1. Sub-optimal, but ended up OK. The gig started OK, but midway through our cover of Regret I noticed a nasty smell and suddenly couldn't hear myself any more. Turns out the ABM had gone poof during the worst possible song. Fortunately the pub has a reasonably clued-up sound guy which meant I could DI from my Behringer BDI21 so we were able to complete the gig, but because of the position of the PA speakers I could barely hear myself. I'm told I did OK though, so yay for muscle memory. Now begins the serious quest for a new amp though.
  2. Change the title to include *WITHDRAWN* and it'll lock the thread
  3. My current band plays Enola Gay, which is boring AF to play. Root notes on F, D, Bb and C throughout. Andy McCluskey went to the same school I did though (19 years before me, I should add) so I'm doing it to represent a fellow alum.
  4. Granted, but if one is just after insurance cover then there are more cost-effective options out there.
  5. But you're tied into membership for the full year once you've signed up, so it might be more cost-effective in the long run to get a separate policy.
  6. It was a bit before Leo was born so must have been some form of lute possibly? (This is a screencap from the film Hysteria, which is, well, hysterical, if you haven't seen it)
  7. If this is still available next month would you be open to taking a deposit to hold it until May?
  8. My first ever gig with some mates from school, and being quite naïve about such things I decided that we were playing one song (I think Cake's version of I Will Survive) too fast, so decided during my solo introduction on the guitar to slow things down to the original tempo. I looked around before the main song kicked in to see the drummer absolutely livid with me mouthing "Speed up you wombler!". Not only that, but I'd been using a mate's Epiphone LP Special to practice (we already had a bass player so I was roped into learning the guitar), but during our soundcheck was told it sounded stinky poo by said mate's dad who was a pro studio engineer, so had to borrow the main band's guitarist's Gibson LP, which was my first experience with block markings on the fretboard and completely threw me so I messed up the solo at the end. More recently I forgot that my current band does a cover of Let Me Entertain You in E (rather than the original F) and so was playing a semitone too high on that song for three gigs before I worked out why I sounded so terrible.
  9. I wonder if a Sadowsky is a cure for depression. Worth a try either way...
  10. I'm thinking of doing the same. It's OK but I'm a simple soul so need as few options available as possible. Honestly I'm tempted to just make it passive at the moment.

  12. Nice work, sounded awesome. I assume that was a hammer-on when your sunglasses fell at around 1:30? If so nice save!
  13. If the 5-string version is anything like the 4-string then the Sire V7 would be a good bet, or if you fancy a more modern sounding bass then try the Sire Mx range. Personally I'm eyeing up a Sadowsky MetroExpress for my next 5-string purchase now they've sorted out the flaws in the earlier models, and by the time I can afford one they might even have the Sadowsky logo on the headstock (I'm not a label snob, far from it, but the current arrangement looks awful IMO).
  14. TBF the VM70s Jazz was a very decent bass to begin with. I'm still upset I had to sell mine, but being able to eat was more important at the time, and I'm definitely not unhappy with the Sire that replaced it.
  15. The only "mods" as such I've done to my two basses is to stick Dunlop pick holders to them, and swap the standard strap buttons with Schaller S-lock buttons. Other than these minor things the basses are what they are and I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't like them.
  16. He seems to have a hatred of anything that is merely "functional".
  17. It's dangerously close to guitar territory
  18. It's not just you, they look awful.
  19. Last time my wife went back home to the States for a visit I ordered a load of stuff, including strings, from Sweetwater to be sent to her mother's house. It was cheaper than I'd have spent over here, and I got free sweets with it, which was nice. Looking forward to getting over there myself and ordering more. Or I could go into a Guitar Center I suppose, if I really have to.
  20. I use Poweramp, it does pretty much what you're after, even on the default skin. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_GB&gl=US
  21. For gigging and rehearsals I have a 3" wide padded Levy's strap, which is awesome. At home I just use a 2" braided Levy's strap I've had for 20+ years
