Sorry to see that you're moving your 4003S on now. I totally understand why; there's loads of Ricky users that find them really comfortable to play but I'm certainly not one of them. If there was an FSO that sounded like a 4003 I'd sell mine in an instant, but there isn't so I'll just have to continue suffering for my art (just like my audiences).

Should you match bass amps to cabs by the same manufacturer ?

Ampeg SVT 810 with Flightcase - *SOLD*

Brilliant rig. If this is the one I think it is, it was a little too far north (Stepps) for me. Plus it would've been my third AH200 and that awesome cab is too large for my car. The build quality of this vintage is amazing.

The ABM600 has that same "bounce" too.

Strangely, only the MB212 combo has neo speakers. The rest of the range still use ceramic. https://www.gallien-krueger.com/mb-combos

Yeah, get rid of the cover and you can move your right hand wherever you fancy. My reason to own a Ricky is for that picked sound. I find every other of my basses easier to play, but if I want that sound then there is no alternative.
-
With pick or fingers I tend to play just about where the cover was; I have bezels on both of mine. And how did the 4003S compare to your other gigging basses?

SOLD. Great condition Trace Elliott Series 6 130 watt 715 combo with matching classic 1153 extension cab. Comes with Roqsolid covers, XLR to jack speaker cable (jack to jack can also be used) and mains lead. Was £375, now only £300 for the lot or £200 for combo, cover and mains lead collected or delivery/meet-up within reasonable distance from Hertford. NB: These are the compact variety of TE enclosures at only 13 inches (33cm) deep and fit in my saloon car boot. Photo with bass added to show the whole rig is only about as tall as a bass guitar. Don't be fooled by 130 watts. TE amplifiers seem to have been rated conservatively; this is a powerful combo and seriously much more so with the 1153 added. Thanks for looking.

I used the excellent Eminence BASSLITE S2012 NEO speakers in those and I only moved them on because I didn't have space to store alongside my Bergantino single 12 cabs.
-
Hey that's great to hear. I made those to sit beneath my Ashdown MAG600 head so should be darn close to the correct width for your AH250SMX.
-
Thanks guys, yes it's been kept unused for the past few years so has had an easy life. I could barely touch the case without the valve making all sorts of terrible screeches. Possibly why it was retired. The lovely thing about the non fan versions is that the internals are dustless and preserved in the state they left the factory 30 years earlier.

Just snagged an excellent condition 1993 vintage no fan AH250SMX. Replaced the original insanely microphonic TE branded ECC83 with a new JJ and all is working perfectly.

Woven carbon/graphite is just another material. It depends on how it is used as to whether the final construction is rigid or has a degree of flexibility. Therefore some carbon fibre necks can be totally rigid, if that's the goal, or flexible if truss rod adjustment is a desired feature.

Thanks ped. I just found a reference to the Nautilus guitar on the Vigier website then googled Nautilus bass and there she was. http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/vigier-nautilus/1774

I have always remembered the Vigier bass I tried in Wapping BC back in 82/83. It had a crystal prism display for some function I cannot recall. Anyone else remember this model?* *Update: just found it. The Nautilus Bass.

I like all my PJ basses but similar to my J basses, I dial either one of the pups back slightly to avoid the cancellation type effect others have mentioned.

Bass show in Liverpool is all headphone.
Sparky Mark replied to ambient's topic in General Discussion
I went to a bass show at Olympia many years ago. Every few minutes a klaxon would sound to quell the slap bass cacophony. It would then build up until the klaxon sounded again. Although the noise didn't really bother me, I was annoyed by the "access bedroom area only" players who thought they were impressing everyone else with their non melodic 150+ bpm machine gun slapping. I've never had the desire go to another. -
Ibanez SR replacement for PJ bass ?

Brilliant artwork! -
I've got a not so posh first year of production Mexican 4 string RH and can confirm they do sound huge! Mine is average weight for a jazz so not as light as yours; but you'd hope CS would use the best timbers all round.

Getting the best tone out of a Jazz bass

^^This. More low end; reduce bridge vol 10%. More mids; reduce neck vol 10%. Both vols 100% = meh.
